There are two types of licenses for the OEM/System Builder Windows 8 product:

1. OEM
2. Personal Use

The product is the same for both, but upon installation, one of the two license must be accepted, depending on the use. The OEM license allows the OEM to resell the PC. The Personal Use license is for individuals who are building (and supporting) their own PCs.Neither are transferable once on the PC, but the OEM license allows for transferring the entire PC to different users.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Love the new look. I heard on Kim commando tonight that Microsoft
Is going to bring back the start tab in the next service pack too btw.. The reg explorer windows are setup like Microsoft office apps, which is great in my opinion.

Cons: No start tab pin on task bar.

Other Thoughts: It's a refreshing look and if your upgrading you should probably try 8 on a friends PCM first it is a little different.

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: none

Cons: too many to list. do not try to use this operating system if you already have high blood pressure.

Other Thoughts: this would make a halfway descent cell phone operating system if it didn't require so much resources.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it!

Pros: Metro is handy

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: My 4 years old HP Pavilion with Vista decided not to allow me to restore back to factory state (code purple). A little research shows that this is mainly due to that the computer's hardware no longer in the factory state. Well, thank you HP. If you continue to do this, I am not going to buy HP anymore.
Long story short, I guess it is good thing that now I have an excuse to upgrade to Windows 8. I have Windows phone, so I am used to the new Metro style.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter with touchpads

Pros: It kind of grows on you.

Cons: Old PCs need not apply.

Other Thoughts: All you need to know about this operating system can be deduced from the promos which exclusively feature touch pads. Microsoft is clearly trying to wean us off of the desktop. Unfortunately I'm not ready to leave. I have no problem with MS trying to create an OS for touchpads but kluging it with the PC OS was ill advised. Why not make two? I do like the interactive desktop.

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

Pros: I don't have it installed on my computer any more!

Cons: It keeps popping up when I search for windows 7 for my new build.

Other Thoughts: The operating system should stay out of the way and let me run my programs in peace. Windows 8 is anything but out of the way. It is constantly in your face yelling "LOOK AT ME". I looked and I didn't like what I saw, so I got rid of it.

2 out of 5 eggsFunctionality took a backseat to flashiness

Pros: Runs fast
Fairly stable, for Windows
Looks nice

Cons: Everything else
Navigation is horrendous; tiles do NOT make it easier to get to programs.
Lack of a Start button takes forever to get used to and is an overall pain in the rear.
Driver support is hit or miss. Sometimes it seems Windows 8 is on top of things, other times it really drops the ball.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is better on every conceivable level when it comes to functionality. Windows 8 may work good on a touchscreen, I don't know, but it's HORRID on a normal desktop. Unless you want a glorified Windows phone OS on your monitor, I beg you to get Windows 7 instead.

2 out of 5 eggsAfter switching from Windows 7

Pros: None that stand out besides the new background images and the welcome page before the start menu.

Cons: It is a lot harder to find simple files on your computer or even access simple tools like control panel or my computer because you have to navigate to the Windows 8 start menu and search for what you want to bring up if it's not on your live tiles. Pre-installed programs like Skype are annoying because instead of opening another window on your task bar, it becomes full screen and not easy to navigate around. Most of all, Windows 8 does not have a start menu button! Every corner on your screen is a mini tool button that brings you to your start menu with live tiles and that isn't as convenient as the Windows 7 start menu where you can go to all programs to look for things or the search box.

Other Thoughts: The main thing missing from Windows 8 is a Start Menu button. I am not use to the live tiles for Windows 8. It is hard to navigate around to find simple programs. I would still recommend Windows 7 over 8. If you're looking for a simple fix for the Start menu button, try Start8.

3 out of 5 eggsA step in the wrong direction

Pros: Runs pretty smoothly.
Metro interface is pretty cool. Live tiles are neat, but could use improvement.

Cons: Buggy, but it is new.
Widgets (from Win7) have been removed.
No way to keep Start (aka Metro) open permanently.

Other Thoughts: Despite the OK score, this OS is really an abomination and a step in the wrong direction. They're clearly turning towards the mobile demographic, leaving us desktop users wanting. If Windows continues developing operating systems designed for touchscreens with all the unnecessary flashiness, they will lose more users to Linux.

5 out of 5 eggswhy are you using

Pros: Windows media center when you can use XBMC for free?

Cons: Non tech ppl. All they did was make the start menu with more graphics. This os runs on pretty much any old components and finds all the drivers during install.

Other Thoughts: Ppl complain about everything that is different. No you don't need to buy 8 if you already have 7 but it's definitely fun to play with. I feel sorry for ppl who can't adapt to new tech.
