3 out of 5 eggsMicrosoft Office

Pros: Have earlier versions that my wife needed for work. They worked fine, no trouble. I really can't say anything good or bad, because I don't have this version yet.

Cons: We are retired, but still need Excel and Outlook . I don't like the direction they are taking, if you read the fine print that Microsoft is licensing their product for a certain amount of time, instead of you owning it. Sorry I'm old school like to own things and don't need no cloud. Just put your stuff on a backup drive. This is why I took off eggs.

Other Thoughts: I'm forced into buying this product. My wife suffered a brain anuerism + stroke that left her blinded. Jaws a program for the visually impaired needs Microsoft Office to work the way we need. I built a new computer to accommodate Jaws, requiring windows 7 pro , i7 4790k, 32 gig 2400 GSKILL ram, 250 gig samsung evo ssd. They said we need horsepower, We got it.

5 out of 5 eggsIt does what it's meant to do

Pros: Sleek interface, I love the flat design and it makes things easier to read personally. I haven't had any issues with it so far.

Cons: I would describe this as a visual upgrade to Office 2007. That being said if you're already using 2007 you may not get much out of the upgrade.

This software does make you create an account with Microsoft. This didn't bother me at all and was not hard to get set up but may be seen as a downside to others. Microsoft has not sent me any spam in the last 4 months since signing up.

Other Thoughts: Reading through the other reviews made me leave this review.

There are 1 egg reviews from people who do not own the software and have never used the software. Why are you leaving a biased review?

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: * New sleek look compared to older versions. Overall feel and look is great to work with, IMO.

* Most companies/organizations use Office. This provides compatibility with pretty much anything. Even if others don't use it, Office can usually still read and convert other formats, whereas other programs (WordPerfect) have a much more limited ability for this.

Cons: * As others have stated, it requires you to tie a Microsoft Account with activation.

Other Thoughts: * So many people that have a "high" tech knowledge or are "IT" have complained about having to use a separate Microsoft account for each install and no way to easily distribute to multiple machines. This may be true for this particular product, but Office Home and Business 2013 has other options through Microsoft. Those other organizations should consider purchasing volume licenses. That is what we do at my school district. We have one image up on the server, and can easily distribute to however many machines with a silent install (no pop-ups or anything). It does not require any signing in or anything.

4 out of 5 eggseasy to get DVD

Pros: just make one account and download img file or turn into iso. and winrar iso/img to file folder and put on flash stick. really no big deal, just read screen.
below install is a button for backup copy and read options to burn img file. really simple other than being 2.2gig img file.

Cons: not 2010

Other Thoughts: took me an hour to download dvd img file on dsl.
not a big deal, think how many dvd's we saved from the people that just loose them. Consider it a green thing.

1 out of 5 eggsNeeds to be activated with a MS Account

Pros: Gets the job done like all other Office versions.

Cons: Microsoft forces the installer to get a MS account and to have to register the product online. What if you don't want a MS account? Well too bad. What if you're IT installing for a user? Well sign up for an account. Never mind if you're not even the user.

I was also advised that the new flat interface makes it less readable, is the best I can describe it.

Other Thoughts: I can understand making you activate a product online. But force you to sign up for a account when you've fully paid for your software is a first for me. It's also a pain for IT in various situations.

If it weren't for just a couple of needed features I would switch over to Open Office permanently.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat! Easy to Use!

Pros: I was browsing a site called Tek-Micro when I first read about it.

I now own it and I love the accessibility it gives me and the ease of it's use.

PowerPoint 2013, in particular helps me with my presentations to different clients as I am in the headhunting business. Office Pro 2013 will always be a part of my day.

Cons: none that i can think of so far

1 out of 5 eggsAlternatives available

Pros: Thanks for the objective reporting, helping me to save my money.

Cons: From what I've read I'm definitely not moving "up?" to this version.

Other Thoughts: Please reconsider WordPerfect, along with OpenOffice et. al. WordPerfect has been around for many, many years, and is easier (in my opinion) than MS Office. I'm keeping my WordPerfect and MS Office 2010. The reveal codes feature is one that can save a lot of time. You still get an install disc, and all documents can be saved in native WordPerfect .wpd format or MS Word .docx format, along with many others, including legacy programs.

1 out of 5 eggsActivation Nightmare

Pros: None!

Cons: If you are setting up multiple computers for different clients this is a nightmare. You have to have a separate email account for each one. Don't think about using your client's which would make it possible for him to reinstall it if he needs to because there is an activation code sent to that account. The amount of hoops to activate this triples your time. You have your email address showing up in front of the clients open pages in office. Don't even try calling them! I finally went in and was able to delete the account showing up. A process that should take 5 minutes took 45min!!!!!!!

I still don't know in the future if the client will have trouble if he needs to reinstall since my email acct was used (No other way of doing it.) You need to do this crazy process for each workstation!!! I had 5. Get 2010 while you can. It's time to stop using Office since MS is out of touch with many of it's client's.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for 365

Pros: This version of outlook works fine with the new 365 service from Godaddy whereas 2010 has connection problems. The rest of the apps work well also. I don't understand the hatred.

Cons: Have to create MS account to install.

1 out of 5 eggsInexcusable install process

Pros: Fulfills the technical requirements of users - word processing, collaboration, etc.

Runs and is supported, suitable for replacing unsupported or soon-to-EOL versions of MS Office

Cons: The "online-enabled" install process for this product is either a joke or an insult. The user (or administrator) is required to visit an MS Office website and not only enter a product key, but tie the product to a Microsoft account as well, in order to complete the installation.

The ability to download and burn a disc image of the installer is hamstrung by the association of the image with a unique product key.

Seemingly gone are the days of maintaining a single CD/DVD image to deploy to domain PCs with an installer prompting for a product key and then requiring no further online activity.

Other Thoughts: I'm ready to seriously consider Free/Open-Source alternatives to MS Office (e.g. LibreOffice) if this is going to be the direction of future iterations of the product.

If Microsoft customer-relations staff are reading this, I and many others are extremely (and the word "extremely" is an understatement) dissatisfied with your product. The reason we are dissatisfied is that you are attempting to force us to link Office installs with web accounts and cloud services. We do not want this, we do not welcome this, we do not like this and we will think twice before paying you money in the future if you continue to insist.

Do not lie to your managers and say that SkyDrive/OneDrive is "not mature enough yet", or that the "Office 2013 user interface could use some tweaks", or that there's "not as much demand" for some element of it. Microsoft Office 2013's online install process is threatening to hurt your business. It is as plain and as simple as that.

The quality of the component programs doesn't even enter into the equation in my mind. Office 2013 Home and Business is, due solely to its absolute disgusting failure of an installer, a terrible product. Do not buy unless you have no other choice, and think very, very hard about whether you really might have another choice.
