1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: Not Really.

Cons: Well... Microsoft as usual gets the best from the consumers. Needless to say downloading software and the relentless work you have to do to download this software before you can use it is completely ridiculous. Microsoft should be sued for selling this garbage. There should be no other alternative other than buying a disc with all the software needed for Microsoft office. With this being said.. its not neweggs fault Microsoft is greedy because they want to save money by using 'cloud based software'. I tried so hard to look for Microsoft office with a 'disc' .. no lu ck :(

Other Thoughts: p.s. thanks Microsoft for nothing.

2 out of 5 eggsIt is Microsoft

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: As the old saying goes (modified for the 21st century) "No one was ever fired for buying Microsoft". It is the de-facto standard that others now are forced to meet.

Cons: Expensive, changes the interface too often, not as user friendly anymore, Word does not do what you want to do how you want to do it (Microsoft knows best). Have to download so you need a good connection or lots of time.

Other Thoughts: Ever notice that if you do not read the information, the picture in most company's ads look like you get a boxed set?

We have to use M$ Office at work. Compared to LibreOffice (newer open source version of OpenOffice) Microsoft's word processor is more expensive (compared to free?), does not retain your formats but re-adjusts them to what Microsoft THINKS you should be doing. The Microsoft transition to the "ribbon" took away most of my functionality so I now have to do multiple clicks to do most common things now (yes, I know, you can use shortcut keys - if you have a good memory).

I would use LibreOffice at work, but the government (I work for the Fed) has decreed that ONLY Microsoft products are to be purchased and used, no exceptions for us peon engineers (at least the last time I tried in December). So often I take my work home, do it in LibreOffce, and then bring it back to M$ Office and have a document that I did not risk having a stroke over trying to get it to look right.

4 out of 5 eggsIts a fine product.

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: MS Office. Not on the cloud.

Cons: Expensive.

Getting used to yet another ribbon interface. I wish they would just pick an interface and leave it.

Other Thoughts: I refuse to switch over to the cloud. I like my data and programs where I can control them and not rely on the internet to be running to use/access.

I've tried free versions like Open Office but working with the MS version is just plain easier for me.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: I have read some reviews about people having trouble with this because it is a license for the program that you must download instead of a "hard copy" that you physically own. I have had no such problems. It worked like it should.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: All things being equal, it would be nice to own a real copy of this instead of a "virtual" copy.

1 out of 5 eggsSkip this garbage, buy 2010

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: It worked, for about two weeks.

Cons: After about two weeks from the date of installation, it simply stopped working. I attempted to uninstall, which also didn't work. Had to use a Microsoft fix-it tool to uninstall it. After uninstalling, I tried to reinstall and the installer would crash every time.

I have tried everything under the sun short of reformatting my drive to get this to work: installing from a clean boot, installing from safe-mode, installing using a disk image as administrator, uninstalling potentially conflicting Windows updates and other software that had been installed since it stopped working, installing the 32-bit version, installing the 64-bit version (on 64-bit machine), completely removing all traces of previous Office files and registry entries before installing.. etc. etc.

The installer still crashes every single time. It appears to be a problem with the "Click-to-Run" software Microsoft decided to implement with this version of Office. It essentially allows you to run the program by "streaming" it before the install is 100% finished. Unfortunately it also prevents the program from running apparently. This is not an isolated incident, apparently this problem is fairly common as far as I can tell trying to trouble shoot this software.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy Office 2013, buy 2010, or you'll run the risk of paying for $100 software you can't use.

4 out of 5 eggsA little more meat than the bare essentials

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: Access to all features of every included product.

Cons: For some reason, I was asked to input account information close to ten times even after completing the initial setup.

Other Thoughts: This is the one you want if you are a student and don't need the horsepower of Outlook and other business solution programs.

4 out of 5 eggsWrong version

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: -New UI is a nice but subtle improvement
-Its Microsoft Office not much else to say

Cons: - The portuguese version kept installing no matter what I did

Other Thoughts: This is a pretty basic review. Microsoft Office for me has always been the premier software for business interaction that is currently available. Other software may do some things better but overall they are never totally better. My only problem is for some reason it defaulted to the portuguese version and well I don't speak portuguese. Luckily after about an hour of being on the line with microsoft support, mainly because I couldn't even read the menus so that I could fix it on my own and that is if it is even fixable on the user level, it got taken care of and has been pretty well perfect since.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful Install Process

This review is from: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 Product Key Card - 1 PC

Pros: Never got to see the office programs. Could not stomach the download installation process.

Cons: I had a client bring this to me to install on a new PC he had just purchased for his wife. I had to call him back and explain that I was unable to install it. He could not believe it, so I sat him down in my office and we went through the online installation process together. As it was a gift for his wife, he was unable to remember her email address to sign her up for a new MS-Web account, so "no downloads for you". Reminds me of that Soup Guy on TV.

Other Thoughts: My client ended up taking the Office 2013 back to where he bought it from and getting his money back. I even tried calling MS for assistance. They advised me they had to transfer me to the Office Division. After waiting on hold for over ten minutes, I hung up. Time is money and I am tired of giving it away to MS for junk like this. My client was happy with the free Kingsoft Office 2013.
