4 out of 5 eggsIt's a win OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: It loads fast using a decent SSD. It boots, finds my hardware and gives me an OS.

Cons: MS...not free like Ubuntu 12.1

Other Thoughts: if everything ran on Ubuntu I wouldn't have to send $$$ to Redmond WA.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 8.1

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: This is great. I have gone from windows XP to 8.1 wow like this alot. All my programs and software installed perfect. My printer software I had to download from Mfg. works great so no need for a new one. It only took me a few hours to get around 8.1. But it was a big jump from XP.

Cons: So far I have no cons on Windows 8.1

5 out of 5 eggsWindows Rules

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Stable
Pretty
Boots to Desktop
Boots to Desktop in about 10 seconds with a SSD (which is so quick I had to disable 'fastboot' to avoid missing windows on each boot)
Windows 10 will be "free"
Self-Repair actually worked
A lil easier to do routine maintenance (like adjusting program boots)

Cons: Not a hekuva lot different from Win 7 unless you use a touch screen
Wasn't free
Windows 10 will be free
MS seems hellbent on losing market share and relevancy
MS allows invasive and ridiculous DRM in the form of UPlay and Steam - guess soon we won't need windows to Game

Other Thoughts: I broke my install by accident by pulling the power cord during a shut down. Then, the repair actually worked. Installation was fast and easy. Running windows on an SSD feels like a revolution. I love it. I don't get the windows hate on the Internet, every version since Vista has been quite stable for me, and pretty attractive. 8.1 is well executed and easy to live with.

Kinda lame to pony up $100 bucks and then find out that Win 10 will be free. I'll DL it, and then even my OEM disc is somewhat useless.

3 out of 5 eggsmeh...

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Good OS overall, does its job

Cons: No start menu
Slower than windows 7 after boot
Constant CPU utilization
No Start Menu

Other Thoughts: The system boot faster than win7, BUT, even if the desktop appears, for the cpu utilization do drop to near zero takes much longer than windows 7. In win 7 it takes 25 seconds and here almost 40 seconds.
Even after the CPU utilization drops to near zero, almost constantly it will keep using between 10 to 40% of CPU doing something, even when I an not running anything.
Lack of the start menu in the desktop mode is obviously a problem, thanks to 3rd part utilities, you get it back, but there should be an option to do so by default.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great, but...

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Installed flawlessly, using the COA (key code) and the USB download tool from Microsoft. Boots very quickly with my SSD.

Cons: It's minor, unless I was reselling: the COA could not be removed from the product sleeve. Using normal effort to remove the sticker resulted in pulling cardboard backing and tearing the sticker itself, rendering it impossible to affix to the side of the PC chassis. I tried to call Microsoft to see if the label could be reprinted and replaced, but was unable to find a representative who knew what an OEM license was, let alone find one who could help me with this issue. If I was to resell this system, this would be a major issue.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: It is windows 8.1...

Cons: This is not a license that can be moved to a new computer. I recently upgraded to a new computer and now I have to buy Windows all over again! It's a trap for them to get more money, and I really don't want to spend any more money on these thieves...

Other Thoughts: Do not get the OEM version!

1 out of 5 eggsUnable to use i,Windows 8.1

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: none, cannot install, i was not provided with a Product code.....

Cons: Windows disk arrived in a double cardboard envelope. No product code in either. When I attempt to install I got a screen message telling me to look for the product code in the box (there was no box) or in a message when I ordered it. I have my confirmation of purchase and the packing list for all the items i received, but no product code listed. I'm unable to use the disk.

Other Thoughts: I have always seen the op systems sold in a small box with the product code inside the cover. Don't know why within two cardboard envelopes the product code could not have been provided.

5 out of 5 eggsNew W 7

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: On sale for 80$ why the 5 it is a very good deal at least your good for 5 more years. I say buy it you will be up to date and they have fixed a lot of stupid issues.

Cons: I bought this last month and what a difference from when it first came out. NOW it is New W 7 with tons of worthless apps. What were they thinking we all have Touch Screens or we were all going out to update during a Recession to 1,500 $ $$ monitor.

Other Thoughts: NOW the Down side this is an OEM so if your lose it from a crash you have to Purchase a NEW Copy. They won't help you recover W8. that what happen to me. So I just redid it with W7 on sale for 60$.
