5 out of 5 eggsBest OS hands down

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Lets get one thing straight, THE START BUTTON IS THERE, RIGHT CLICK ON THE WINDOWS LOGO TO BRING UP OPTIONS. People are complaining about how it just takes them back to the metro screen, well they should of read the simple instructions after the update before writing bad reviews. I didn't really care for the start button anyway. Faster than my mac and (use to be) windows 7 pc before I but windows 8 on it. I find it way more productive/easier than any other windows os from gaming, writing papers, multitasking*, overall faster. I never experienced any crashes or bugs on 8/8.1 on both of my computers. To anyone looking to choose an os get windows 8.1, don't listen to these people that complain and want to purposely give this operating system a bad rep. If you like the desktop screen you can bootup straight to it and never touch the metro screen, but give the metro screen a try and fully customize it to your liking, you'll learn to love it. It functions perfectly even if you don't have a touchscreen computer. If windows 8.1 crashes or you experience bugs, I'm 99% sure its due to your computer/drivers/ or software from 3rd parties that you installed.

Cons: I prefer the internet explorer version on the desktop than from the metro ui (user interface). It doesn't give me an option to use that one from the metro ui. If you use google chrome this isn't an issue, its the same from the desktop and metro ui. Not really a con but a nit pick.

Other Thoughts: I prefer producing music with windows 8.1 than os x mavericks, ableton live 9 works excellent, easily connect my usb keyboards and more. I'm thinking of uploading a video review of windows 8.1.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Windows 8.1 is nice and pretty, feels and looks fresh. The interface is cool, if you have an open mind are are willing to learn new things.

Cons: I should have purchased windows 7. Even though windows claims 8.1 is stable and corrects past release issues. It is still very buggy. I have crashed more times in the last week than Ive crashed in two years with my windows 7 machine. Which I've investigated all crashes to trace back to the operating system. It took lots of modifications to get it to sleep correctly.. which occasionally it still does not go into sleep mode the right way. Certain apps from the windows app store will just outright crash the entire computer. Netflix has crashed on me 4 times.. only through the app though, not if I use it in a browser. Chrome also continues to crash either after I finish playing a game or when I bring it back from sleep.

Other Thoughts: I would have taken off more eggs, but I do see the future potential of this operating system. I have confidence in microsoft to eventually come out with a worthy update to finally replace their windows 7.

There are a lot of bugs in this software.

1 out of 5 eggsWindows 8.1

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: none

Cons: It's not 7 or even XP.

Other Thoughts: This whole lets turn your desktop into a android is lame. The skype app is so restrictive, had a hotmail.ca for it. Now it forces me because of 8.1 to outlook. Which only means I have to re add all my friends and family. Garbage. It's not even compatible with my steelseries mouse. I would give it zero if I could.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: This OS boots up and shuts down very quickly. I'm quite impressed with how fast it runs.

Cons: I really dislike the user interface. I find it to be counterintuitive, for a person that has used Windows since 1998. So far, that is my only real issue with Windows 8. If I run into issues, I will update my review.

Other Thoughts: I will be soon be changing the UI so that it works like all the previous Windows UI's do. I was on the fence about this OS for a long time now. After doing my research, I saw that I should go ahead and purchase it. If you are concerned about the UI, it can be easily changed. Which is something I will be doing very soon.

4 out of 5 eggsNot as bad as I feared

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: The start menu is back! If you remember to right click only it is semi-useful.
Very resource friendly.
Detected most devices and installed generic drivers to get me going(see below).
VERY fast boot up. Also my first UEFI computer.

Cons: Feels like Windows 7...where a virus has taken over and fudged the UI.
This version of Windows installed generic drivers by default, felt like I didn't need to download the newest drivers from ASRocks website.
!!Still go to your mother boards website and download all drivers.

Other Thoughts: With the OEM drivers, Windows would freeze often during updates. I even rebooted once thinking I had bricked it some how. Windows started up with a installing updates splash screen. After I installed the newest Intel SATA drivers, it ran much better. Naturally updates won't install any more. Even after clearing out the updates cache
I cannot reiterate how much UEFI is beneficial to Windows 8(.1). Windows clocks boot up from first click of the power button to log in screen at 4.5 seconds. I think it is actually closer to 5 seconds :-)

5 out of 5 eggsbest windows os ever

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Forget about the start menu you wont notice its gone after a few months. Configuring the start screen is easy. Once you get all your tiles where you want them you will probably like it better.

Personally i like being able to make the apps i use the most larger and the ones i use less often small. It helps you gain quick access to the stuff you use the most. Also i like the idea of the live tiles, there are not many that are all that cool but there is great potential.

This version of win 8 runs super fast on my athlon64X2-5000(2.0ghz)4gig-ddr2-800
It boots faster and loads programs as fast (sometimes faster) than
my phemonX2(2.8ghz)4gig-ddr3-1600(win-7)
both have seagate 7200rpm hdd

I say best windows ever because Microsoft always disappointed me with new versions of windows. Well not always, i was pumped about windows 2000 but that was 15 years ago.
Win 8 exceeded my expectations. Its so fast i cant believe it came from Microsoft.

Cons: You cannot turn off you computer easily in win 8.
You have to do this funny mouse gesture to get a panel to pop out on the right side of the screen then select settings and then power

I recommend making a custom live tile for sleep,power,lock,etc..
I used tile gene a free tile editor from the ms app store

Other Thoughts: I'm glad i didn't by win 7 again when my old hdd died..

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: - Super fast
- that's about it...?

Cons: - Not a huge fan of the age of simplified OS's with the assumption of monitors of touch screen capability so the interface of the start menu. No.
- I always would fish for Desktop versions of apps so it doesn't take up my whole screen as if it's a tablet but it is what it is
