5 out of 5 eggsWINDOWS 8.1 *OEM*

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Ok, READ THIS. Re: "OEM" I *JUST* SPOKE TO MICROSOFT ON CHAT (6/14/15). Q. Is the OEM version "allowed" for people building their own machines, and NOT for later resale. A. *YES*. And I asked the question multiple times, in different ways to ensure absolute clarity. Q. Can an OEM purchaser use it for their own machine that they built and then validly upgrade to Win 10 without issues? A. *YES*. Q. I'm not breaking any laws or violating the EULA (End User LIcense Agreement), am I? A. *NO*, you are *NOT* violating the EULA. I used to work for a software company and I'm very sensitive to EULAs and piracy.

And, having worked at a software company, I wasn't surprised, but the agent told me that Windows 10 (free upgrade from Win 8.1!) is going to be NOTHING SHORT OF *AWESOME*. Like I said, a response like that is to be expected, but its nice to hear.

Cons: It took me contacting MS directly to get the definitive answer.

Other Thoughts: I recommended in my "Chat Survey" that MS should provide clarity on the Software Product Description as to exactly what the EULA is and what is/is not allowed.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Was able to install pretty good and works good after that.

Cons: Had to install it with the advance settings since, for unknown reason, my computer had windows on it even though it was just built.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, metro is okay

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: - Very smooth transitions and animations all around
- Awesome task manager
- Great variety of programs, apps, etc.
- Good customization options

Cons: - Ah, metro. Everyone complains about metro. I was skeptical - all the hate led me to believe it would ruin my windows experience. I have to admit - I don't have a touchscreen, so the home screen/metro theme and full screen apps don't really have much purpose to me. However, if you don't like metro, just don't use it. Very few programs/settings actually need it, you still have a start button, and the computer can boot directly to desktop. Metro isn't all that bad, and it does look pretty nice.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Item

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Great when used with a touch screen computer

Cons: Not very administrative friendly. You have to scroll though a few menus to get to the option you are looking for. Also there is no start button.

Other Thoughts: If you do not care about the start button and/or have a touch screen PC then windows 8 is a perfect fit for you.

5 out of 5 eggsWhy all the hate!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: 8.1 was created for the noobs, go to youtube and find ways to tweak. I think it is way better than previous editions. The best way to get your stuff right anyway is to tweak, it was all there to begin with. And yeah 10 will be better for the Techie waiting to chomp something new. As far as everyday people 8.1 is a lot better than 7, XP, Vista(that was a joke catered to the big machine).

Cons: Nothing since it got the desktop right for the newbies.
