5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Threw all my current games at it and it works fine. With Windows 8, I seem to utilize more of the search function for anything I need. Majority of the installed games/apps are on my desktop. I hardly use the start button so why bother. Plus with Windows 7, I hardly used the desktop but instead I utilize the pin to taskbar instead. I also use the pin to taskbar on Windows 8. Really convenient!

The new Windows Media Player is set similar to the Start Screen where all the programs are laid out on the screen. Very interesting. Played a blueray video file on it and it's flawless.

Runs Adobe Premiere just fine.

Cons: Thought I needed the Pro version. Home edition works fine.

Other Thoughts: My build...
MSI X99S Gaming 7
Intel i7 5820k OC 4.4 GHz idle 47c ~ 76c max load
Corsair H100i
G.Skill Rip Jaws 16 GB 2800 MHz 4x4 (OC to 2666 MHz)
EVGA SuperNova 850 Watt Bronze Modular
Cooler Master HAF 932 Black Edition
Samsung EVO 500 GB SSD
Western Digital 3TB Black
Current GPU: Nvidia Geforce 680 GTX 4GB (won't upgrade till another few years)

1 out of 5 eggsMissing Product Key

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: I got a nice disk to install the system.

Cons: No product key was attached leaving me stuck.
Nothing like having the joy or building yourself a new computer to have to it crushed with no OS to add to it.

Other Thoughts: Newegg support told me they couldn't help me and that if I wanted support I should have spent more money for the consumer version.

5 out of 5 eggsDon't listen to others

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: It's fast, stable, and you can customize it. If you don't like the tiles you can make this look just like Windows 7. Don't listen to others that say Windows 8 is horrible, they are just afraid of new & different.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I picked this up since it was $30 less then Win 7 at the time. Would make this purchase again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Runs and operates more efficiently (faster) than windows 7. Also if you continue to use it, the Metro (charms and start) gets easier.

Cons: I wish the start menu persisted through the start screen, and windows apps, but that might defeat the purpose of the new UI. Maybe an option? I definitely don't want a bing search with ads to replace or accompany the start button.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 8.1 64 isn't too bad

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: I like the apps on the tile start menu and that you can boot to desktop unlike plain 8. Being able to choose which apps to have and group them was a plus since I don't really use my start menu in Windows 7 much anyway. It is a little faster than 7 and better usage of SSD and HDD. Being able to storage pool HDDs was a big plus for storage space.

Cons: I found a bug where Windows 8.1 turns off your Num Lock on boot up even when you have it set in your bios to turn on. I have Windows 8.1 on 3 PCs and it does it to all three. But finding only one bug in Windows is not bad and for the first time 5 eggs.

Other Thoughts: I have used computers since before there was Windows and I was surprised I would like Windows 8.1 when I first seen it. But the app tile does make things easier when you get used to it. And you can always add a start menu if you really need one, but after seeing some of your PC with icons on the desktop I didn't know you knew what a start menu was...LOL

5 out of 5 eggsGood OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: A little touchy to setup but not difficult.
Made my computer run faster and smoother.
Setup is like a smart phone.
Its easier to get the programs you need. They are called apps now and there is an app store in the basic OS

Cons: Takes a little time to get used to but well worth it.

Other Thoughts: A friend got me to try 8.1 and it made my gaming better. Now I have 3 computers running 8.1 and am converting all our laptops to it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: -Painless install
-Fast startup times
-Boot to desktop (I can work, play games, and handle all my business, from startup to shutdown, without seeing or interacting with the garbage metro interface)

Cons: Metro still exists. Such a garbage thing to have.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully Windows 10 will completely remove the metro interface in the background and stick to traditional desktop only.

3 out of 5 eggsIts Windows

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: With this you can get a Win7 downgrade license. Need to run Win8.1 to use DX12 when it comes out.

Cons: Metro UI.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is better, but with this OS you can downgrade. IF you game, you will need Win 8.1 to get DirectX 12 benefits next year.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: Quick boot up time (10 secs), accurate file transfer estimate time.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: I've been discourage on buying the windows 8 os because of many people saying it's buggy but I haven't found any problems yet. Easy to get the start menu back by download a 3rd party program. I actually like it better than windows 7 by far.
