5 out of 5 eggsI LIKE IT

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: SUPER SMOOTH AND LOADING TIMES ARE SO MUCH FASTER THEN WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 7 INSTALLED. Since I'm using the desktop version when it boots into windows it starts on the desktop screen.

Cons: Just the whole start button thing. Not really that much of a pain since I'm using this windows on a custom built gaming desktop with NONE touch monitor.

Other Thoughts: After a few tweaks and arranging some icons on the desktop screen I sometimes forget it's not windows 7 until I go down and click on the windows icon and it takes me to that other screen that all the tablets start on.

1 out of 5 eggsnot for desktop or laptops

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: I've had this OS for over a year. I have yet to find something good about it. To be truthful, its does boot-up and shut down fast but that is all.

Cons: There are so many problems I had with windows 8 and the upgrade 8.1, it could fill a book which I don't have time or space to write. However the main ones are going into SAFE Mode, Microsoft will not reload the original product key, you have to buy one. I was not able to make a reinstall copy of the original because the OS would not let me.

Other Thoughts: Some of you are wondering why I stayed with it so long, well the short answer is I spent good money for windows 8 and I was hoping that they were going to fix the many problems that everybody complained about. Well I can now see that will never happen.

1 out of 5 eggsForced Upgrade

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: None

Cons: Windows 8 makes you install Windows 8.1. After that happened several programs stopped working. One game doesn't work at all now. It worked fine under Windows 8. Microsoft needs to make upgrades voluntary not mandatory. I'm P.O. I have a game I can't play now. Looks like it's back to Windows 7

Other Thoughts: Microsoft has turned into the biggest pile of garbage. They used to be OK but this is ridiculous. BTW what happened to Windows 9?

5 out of 5 eggsGoing from 7 directly to 8.1

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: - Nearly Identical to 7
- Every advanced tool is in roughly the same place
- Very pretty
- Improved DPI scaling for display on HDTVs
- Very lightweight

Cons: - Driver support is still a mess, but that's mostly ASUS's fault in my situation

Other Thoughts: Never used 8, so I have no frame of reference. 8.1 is fine.

1 out of 5 eggswhat a dog!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: None

Cons: I have worked on a few pc's with Win 8 and found this OS is not user friendly nor user intuitive. I have taken over a dozen laptops and a few desktops back to Win 7. After I install Win 7 the people can use their computers again.

Other Thoughts: What were they thinking. This might be ok for ipads etc.

3 out of 5 eggsWindows 8.1 Pro - x64bit, (Original Equipment Manufacturer")

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Faster Boot Times, Stability, Security.

Cons: I Do Not Like Being Connected to the High Almighty (Microsoft) I perform my own system images, I do not need Microsoft retaining a copy of my settings. Windows Media Center is not included, but you are able to auto download and install the feature for a mere 9.99.

Both Windows 8 and 8.1 were designed for portable devices in mind. There are still issues with accessing certain features via a desktop and laptop. Why didn't Microsoft release two versions. One to cater to portable devices and one for Desktop and Laptops???? Could it be that Microsoft is running out of ideas???? Features that they have made apparent, were always available, even back to Windows 98.

Other Thoughts: I can not wait until the BETA release of Windows 9. My thoughts to Microsoft, STOP RUSHING, just to get the product out on the Retail shelves. You made royal mistakes in Windows Vista, and quite a few errors in Windows 7. Enough is enough.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Make the Move From 7

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Lots faster than Windows 7 on my SSD. Only took 50 minutes from start to finish to install....(this included updates and installing a few drivers 8.1 Pro had most of them) After reading all the negative things about 8 I was reluctant to move on to 8.1. This OS is not half baked as the Windows haters would have you believe. I'm glad I waited for 8.1 though before I jumped in. Seems to me Microsoft got the kinks out.

Cons: Only one its a little funky so it will take some time to work a few things out I was used to in 7. Same as always when you move to a new OS.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it a lot!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Works well; very well.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Did not think I would like 8.1. Was using VISTA 64 Ultimate for the last few years. But I actually can't see going back to VISTA now.
Only thing that did not work out of the box was the scanner on my HP Deskjet 8500. The Windows 8.1 drivers from HP took care of that issue.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Smooth OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: This is a follow-up from my previous review of this OS where I rated it negatively. I may have bought my copy directly from Microsoft but I know I rated it here so I'm following up. I've recently found that most of the negative issues I had were related to dysfunctional hardware and not the operating system. Windows 8.1 is a solid sytem and performs brilliantly. Fast boot-up, great graphical interface, and recognizes hardware and retrieves drivers automatically. Microst has done a great job here.

Cons: It doesn't legitimately run previous versions of Office older than 2007.
