3 out of 5 eggsNot a fan.

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: It works. It's Windows.

Cons: Metro interface is fugly. Lack of start menu makes me crazy.

Other Thoughts: I should've went with 7, but noooooooo. I had to get the newer version. I can't wait for my free upgrade to 10. I'll be kicking myself 'till then.

5 out of 5 eggsA big step up from 7 and 8

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Very fast and very smooth. Literally no complaints because there hasn't been any problems. Even the updates have had no hiccups. No problems with the Start screen or Modern apps either which are superb if you have a touch screen or tablet.

Cons: If you're running 8.0 you have to install 8.1 through the Windows Store which can be confusing for some. The Start screen and the Modern apps can be jarring for those who don't understand they were made for touch.

Other Thoughts: It seems most of the users who are giving bad reviews either have really old hardware or bitter users of Windows 7 who have trouble adapting. I suggest those to wait for Windows 10 which brings back the overrated start menu, lots of other backwards UI features and compromises

1 out of 5 eggsSAD

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: WORST OS EVER GOT RID OF IT RIGHT AWAY

Cons: MICROSOFT CHARGES WAY TO MUCH FOR A BROKEN OS ALSO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS WAY OVER PRICED IT'S LIKE THEY KNEW 8 AND 8.1 IS BROKEN AND DESIGNED A EXTREMELY HIGH PRICE CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Other Thoughts: MICROSOFT HAS LOST SIGHT OF WHAT PEOPLE REALLY NEED AND WANT

5 out of 5 eggsSystem Builder Version

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Awsome, super stable best version of windows ever

Cons: Needs minor tweaks to make it easily usable and is sufficiently different from windows 7 and previous versions, that it requires a bit of instruction.

Other Thoughts: Hello? This is a system builder version. It requires you, the builder, to provide support. As such, you should already be an expert on this OS. As an expert, you would know that this is the best version of windows so far and be able to tweak it for usability.

1 out of 5 eggs8.1 is a Joke

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Stable when it works

Cons: Have gotten over 300 errors since date of install. Nothing but MS Office 2013 installed on computer. Called windows tech support they wanted me to pay 149.99 for them to fix their OS. Wish I stayed with Windows 7. Havent had this many errors with a fresh install since WindowsME

1 out of 5 eggsTablet/Phone OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Faster than 7

Cons: To many to list, removed so much functionality. Worse thing- they're just trying to cram there highly unpopular mobile interface down your throat to get there selves a share of the mobile market- Lets face it these guys already have an unfair monopoly on the OS department. The government needs to step in and have software companies use free and public core components like OpenGL instead of Direct3D. Once that happens we'll have a true fair market. And this "HAS BEEN MONEY GRUBBING COMPANY" will go down faster than you ca say "what HAPPEN"...

Other Thoughts: Just try and defend one of the largest richest companies in the world shoving there touch tech down you throat even though it's counter-intuitive to a desktop environment so they can make even more money. Someone has to open this world up so we can have some real innovation. There are small groups of people that can do better than this and yet we allow a HUGE company like microsoft to have a monopoly on the market stifling progress and preventing even themselves from having the aid of true competition,

3 out of 5 eggsIt's just so-so

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Quick boot

Can use Classic shell

Good game performance

Cons: When you need to reference the document(s) you are reading to pull up another document, there is no world in which it is helpful to click "start" and have it cover up the document you need to reference.

Example: Wind 7:
Click "Start"
Point to "Word" ->pop-out of recent documents appears.
Reference the document number from document you are currently reading.
Select the appropriate document from pop-out.
Done.

Win 8.1
Same situation
click "Start"
---WALL APPEARS---
CANNOT reference current document
No pop-outs possible
Completely anti productive in a workplace environment.

Other Thoughts: You seriously need Classic Shell to make this OS productive for those who necessarily have to reference documents multiple times a day (especially when there are nearing 75 documents in Word, Excel, ppt, etc and they are all referenced by numbers).

It has all been said before (and defended against by those who do not require serious productivity, yet claim they do).

4 out of 5 eggswindows 8.1

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit

Pros: Installed perfectly and no issues. It is windows 7 with a face lift. Some may not like the metro interface, but I kinda like it. Windows 8.1 seems a little faster than 7.

Cons: Don't care how you have to create a Microsoft account just to install and activate windows.

Other Thoughts: 8.1 runs fine. I may not care for creating an account, but it is not painful to do so. Great service from newegg.
