5 out of 5 eggsStill great for business machines!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit

Pros: Easy learning curve to move non-technical employees off of XP. We have great employees that know their job, but have very little exposure to PC hardware and operating systems. Don't ask any of them about Linux as they have no clue what a Linux is. I use Windows 8 with Stardock's desktop App as we do not have touch screens. More and more of our vendors are using software that no longer works with XP, so we had to move from XP even though it is a great OS. We stayed with 32 bit version as it is more compatible with a lot of our software and our computers only have 3 to 4 GB of memory. We made a good decision even though we do have Intel 64 bit capable CPU's, but they are 4 to 5 years old. We are glad that we can still find Windows 7 but it too will soon be gone, and then end of life will be next concern.

Cons: Price of course. Fresh install yesterday required 159 Microsoft updates after registering online. Requires a clean formatted hard drive. No upgrade path from XP to 7.

Other Thoughts: Windows 8 is like Vista. Everybody is hoping Windows 9 will be the next XP when it is released next year, and that there is an upgrade path from 7 to 9, unlike XP to 7.

5 out of 5 eggsWinders Does Good

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit

Pros: Finally a XP replacement that is stable and not overly plagued with problems. I waited for some time before upgrading to this OS Platform and i am very much surprised how well it performs with other software and drivers from Windoze XP.
If you are not going with the 64 bit version because of hardware compatibility or other reasons, bon't be worried about the 32 bit version as it is very goo in it's own right.
I am using it on a PC-DL ASUS MoBo with AGP graphics and this software is just proving my Old-School system will still rock with two Zeon 3.2GHz CPU's. That is a whopping 604 pins per processor or 1208 pins and 2 (two) cores and she is very quick for a old system with just a 533 FSB.

If you can jump to the 64 Bit version because that is the future just like 128 bit encryption is moving to 256, CAT 6 cable is now moving to CAT 7a and Gigabit LAN is becoming the norm.
So if your system can run the 64 Bit version get it, but if like me and still hanging onto a Killer MoBo with Great CPU's and Kingston HyperX RAM this 32 Bit OS is very nice indeed - same layout as the 64 Bit, but will not be as Snappy.

Cons: Registration Code could be Larger so you can see it without a magnifying glass - Geezzzz it is small ('B's look like '8's and 'Z's look like '2's etc...)

Other Thoughts: OEM should at least have a small pamphlet that comes with it on the more standard features you need to locate, but after a few days you will find it quit user friendly.

4 out of 5 eggsWish Retail was still around

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit

Pros: One of my favorite OS's, plays games, is stable, seems like a winner. Would pick this over windows 8 any day.

Cons: The retail version of Win7 pro is no longer listed on NewEgg. That is a real shame, not a huge fan of OEM versions, and the problems of installing on a new computer. Not a deal breaker, just a bother some times.

4 out of 5 eggs7

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit

Pros: Wow loving it, I probable would not have tried it it wasn't for xp decline.
All my old software works Word, Publisher and even my i850 canon printer ,that was a challenge, . I do enjoy the challenge of setting up a new system.I put it on an aging system Athlon IIx4 640 Quad core 30000mhz 4.00 gig G Skill ram refurbished WD HD 240 with 16gig M kept my other drives as slaves .I was able to access all of my old files, 7 made it much easier to find files.I have a lot of files go figure 10 yrs worth. You will have to do a lot of reloading drivers, ect. so give yourself time.I'm almost finished 1week on and off. worth the effert, good system and has a lot of perks, movie maker, for 1 I just ordered a video card, have on (board video) on gigabyte MB MA785SGM-US2H, its the bottle neck on my system. unfortunately its only 32-bit system Oh Well,it works really good .I'm 69 and don't have to have the latest and greatest anymore.Have been shopping New Egg for 11 yrs. Never had a problem with service, I must say returns are a pain in the but. But usually I made the mistake . GO FOE IT

Cons: none yet
