5 out of 5 eggsGreat OS!

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: Great and Stable OS.

Cons: I have had the OEM since 2009 when I built a computer. I am in the process of building a new computer to release the one from 2009. Too bad I had to buy a new OEM now less than a year before windows 10.

1 out of 5 eggsCorrupt Disc

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: I purchased this disk to downgrade my new laptop with Windows 8.1 back to Windows 7 Pro. I followed all of the steps but instead of the installation completing it's run, it stopped after the first restart and would not progress any further after I got a message informing me there was corrupt data stopping it. It got far enough I can not just continue to use Windows 8.1 so now my laptop in unusable until I can get a new disk for one of the two OS's.
I purchased this on November 1st and didn't have my laptop in my hands until December 10th to instal it on due to shipping confusion so I am past the date of returning it for a replacement because I had no way of testing it if worked.
I am very dissapointed to have spent this much on an OEM only to have the disk be corrupt and unusable.

Cons: Disk is corrupt and unusable. Waste of money.

5 out of 5 eggsFix for Windows Update problem (Dec 2014)

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: See below for windows update fix.

Cons: In Dec 2014, I had a problem with Windows Update where 14 updates kept failing. On the first call to MS support, the tech said that this OEM license was not supported on a desktop and I should get Windows 8! Yes, that's actually what he said.

The second tech was more helpful. He uninstalled update 3004394, then hid it so Windows Update would stop asking to install it. He then unchecked all the non-security updates at the bottom of the update list and installed the checked updates. Those went through. He then installed the remaining updates (but not the 3004394 update).

The 3004394 is a root cert manager update and it seems important. I ended up installing it as a standalone update (not via Windows Update) and it seemed to be OK. This is probably a temporary issue that will be resolved in the next couple of weeks, but I wanted to document it just in case it could save someone else the hours I have spent on it.

System:
- Shuttle DS81
- Samsung 850 Pro SSD

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Price for Solid Software

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: Does what is designed to do I suppose.

Cons: Windows Defender vs. Microsoft Security Essentials mess up. And the planned obsolecence designed into the whole sheebang.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: My previous computer had pre-installed Windows7, I decided to go with it again. Happy with the decision. Great OS.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Cautionary Note: To anyone building a new computer with Windows 7 with a SSD & with an extra mechanical data drive above 2TBs.

Unplug the extra data drive BEFORE you install Windows 7. If you don't, the Windows7 installation process auto-installs system files onto your 2nd drive without asking, making it a "system drive" and lowering the data limit to 2TBs. You may have to re-install Windows 7 again if you have both drives plugged in during installation, unless you want to limit a 3-4TB drive to 2TBs.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Software

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: Easy as can be to install and works perfectly.

Cons: None really other than there were ton's of updates to install, but that's just the deal when setting up a new machine.

Other Thoughts: I went with Windows seven because I have a laptop with 7 Home Premium and really like the ease of use. I've seen Windows 8 and really didn't want to go that route.

1 out of 5 eggsComes loaded with malware

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: It's windows 7 I guess I rather avoid it.

Cons: It came bloated with malware, I have no idea where to start I just did a fresh install and had something from astromenda installed, update pro and pro something improve your windows since this thing must be loaded with malware bogging down performance (of course it came with a cost) after a fresh install...

But you know thanks for letting me know there was a third/forth and fifth party involved in this software purchase. I uninstalled them and I am still cleaning it out...

Anyway first time customer at newegg and you can also mark me down as NEVER COMING BACK.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this it's loaded with spyware/malware and Newegg does not tell you on the product page so Caveat Emptor I guess... despite the price tag.

4 out of 5 eggsStability

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: Was tired of XP and decided to go with Win 7 Pro after reading New Egg reviews. Do not regret the change. Win 7 is completely stable and have had no issues. Hardware drivers are not a problem and is completely automated. Graphic design is refreshing and there are a lot of options for personalization. Installation was a breeze from disc.

Cons: Didn't like the discontinuation of the Gadgets shortly after I installed them. Still use them despite Microsoft's campaign to scare people into upgrading to garbage Windows 8. As it is I will be checking out Windows 8.1 to check if it's changed any from the original disaster. Microsoft in true tradition already is moving on to another version of Windows and leaving Windows 7 behind. Customer Service is not a top priority with When it comes to Windows. They just went ahead and removed all of Windows 7 from the stores and are forcing Windows 8 down the public's proverbial throat. The cost for 7 is apparently higher than 8 but both are overpriced as per Microsoft's standard policy.
