5 out of 5 eggsStable

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: Windows 7 is stable. I use it primarily for gaming and don't recall it crashing. It boots up within a few seconds with my Intel SSD. Very fast boot. It's not Windows 8.

Cons: None that come to mind.

Other Thoughts: I like this OS so much I'll run it until Windows 9 is well established and has the inevitable bugs worked out. No reason to upgrade. It is much easier to navigate than 8 or 8.1. A few folks have said Win 8 is fast but with an SSD the Win 7 OS is greased lightening.

5 out of 5 eggsPossibly the best OS ever

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: Used it on a previous build. It's stable, works great for gaming and is a proven product. I honestly did not consider going the Windows 8 route simply due to the stability factor. This OS has been out for some time and has had most of the bugs sorted out. Some might argue against it in terms of future proofing. Since support for Windows 7 will completely end by 2020, I personally don't think anyone has to worry. I mean, I've had Windows XP on my old system for 10+ years and it still works!!! If you're not downloading torrents... you should be fine. For the mainstream user (casual browser/gamer) you really don't have anything to worry about. I plan to keep this OS until Windows 9 (fingers crossed, hoping it will be like 7 only better)

Cons: Don't really have any. I guess it probably would be the amount of RAM limitation at 16 GB, but really I think you would have to be hard pressed to find someone who even fully uses 8 GB

Other Thoughts: It's a proven OS. I've used XP, Vista and 8/8.1. Honestly I think for those who want just a basic OS without any of the "bells and whistles", Windows 7 is the best option. I really didn't like the tiles format on 8 (had a Windows phone and that was pretty good), but this is mainly because I prefer to have an uncluttered background. I mean I don't have a use for all the apps that come and really didn't fancy investing a substantial amount of time in setup up my OS. The only icon on my main screen in the recycle bin. In the same context, I really like the slideshow background feature of 7, so that was one of my main items for consideration.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: This is the one to use get on Newegg email list they sent me a e m that said I could buy this for 85$ and Free Ship. T.Y. N E

Cons: I did the W8 40$ download last year on 4 PC with XP 2 have been nothing but problems. The security on W8 is a Nightmare I had to reload W8 it would crash then after the new download Micro said I Can't do a New reload on this W8 now they want me to purchase a New copy of W8

Other Thoughts: I Will NEVER EVER do W8 again it has been a License Nightmare with all the security most of my work has been rejected. I was even shut down by micro for doing Illegal software programs. The Inter Net people came out to my Home and checked my pc because it said I was using a Illegal copy I showed them the 4 Disc that I bought from Micro. After several Hours they let me go back on line.

5 out of 5 eggsExpected a little more but...

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: It does what it's supposed to do

Cons: For 100 bux I expected more than just a CD in a paper sleeve. The activation code is printed so small that even an eagle will need a magnifying glass to read it. But can't really say that's worth dropping the rating for.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: Reliable. Drivers work. Designed for mouse & keyboard operation. No software compatibility issues.

Cons: It's not as stable as Linux/Android, and too may software/streaming programs designed only for Win7 or WMC (e.g., Ceton InfiniTV uses cable card to replace cable company's STB, but only uses WMC -- bye bye Myth Box!).

home OEM version is relatively inexpensive still (~$85).

Other Thoughts: 5 stars because it's what I wanted and installed properly and runs properly. it's Windows though. it is what it is: proprietary to the max and requires careful software monitoring else things will go sideways (eventually). be we already knew that. it's Windows. it's the price you pay for an OS that my 70-year old mother can pick up and use. Google may have something to say about that in a couple more years though....

5 out of 5 eggsNice, Dependable OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: The interface is what I grew up with, and it's what I'm used to. For setting up a work station on my first PC build, it was a painless process. Install the OS, updated drivers, establish RAID array, and you're good to go. All in all, I'm happy with this purchase.

Cons: Since this is my first PC build, I wanted to take a crack at doing the whole boot the OS from an SSD, and then keep the rest of my files on a 2TB HDD RAID array. Word of caution, do not use a SSD smaller than 100 or so GB. I've only had this thing up and running for three days, and my 62 GB SSD is about maxed out from the additional driver files. Also, do not follow any of the regedit instructions you might find online. Any modifications to regedit will only bring trouble. And if you think that trick worked, you just haven't seen the damage yet.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 FTW

This review is from: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: It's not windows 8, it even comes with a start button and menu!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I use Windows 7 for all my builds, just to many problems using 8 on a desktop.
