McAfee Total Protection 2012 - 3 PCs

Other Thoughts: People who are claiming the software slow things down or scan slow must be using hardware that is below requirement. You know using outdated hardware will always cause performance issues, just like video games, an outdated video card will always lag.... as simple as that.

Pros: Provides effective protection from malware.

Cons: Slow; Frequent errors which cause a pop-up saying that the McAfee "Service Host" has encountered an error and must stop. These errors are usually preceded by a hang of 30 seconds or so. Full system scan takes 6 hours or more.

Other Thoughts: I have removed the McAfee product from my computer, even though I have about 8 months left on the subscription. Its impact on my computer's performance is just too much to bear. Web surfing is pathetically slow.

Cons: Poor malware removal, especially rootkits. Average malware blocking. McAfee has had the reputation of slowing down your computer for a long time specially at scheduled scanning. I have been using other protection software for a number of years, but decided to try McAfee again just because of the great deal

Other Thoughts: I will recommend to buy it only if you have a newer system with plenty of memory and a fast processor

Pros: Smooth installation and protects extremely well against all threats

Cons: All three computers this was installed on are so slow on the internet now that we can't use them when it's turned on.

Other Thoughts: I've loved and sworn by McAfee for years...until this year that is. I’ve always used McAfee because I haven’t seen one bank yet that doesn’t use it religiously. Plus, I’ve spent a lot of time helping others fix the problems that Norton had caused on their PCs. Not long ago I installed McAfee Total Protection 2012 on three separate computers I own that were different brands with either Intel or AMD CPUs. All are less than a year old running Windows Seven and were extremely fast PCs. Not so anymore! Immediately after McAfee all three PCs became useless for anything on the internet. Many times they were so slow they might as well be frozen. You could click on a web page and then get up to go get a drink or something and they would often times still be opening the page when you came back. When I turned off McAfee all three instantly sprang back to life as the ultra-fast computers they had been before. As much as I hate to say it, I'm ordering Norton today for the first time in my life.

Pros: It was free. Still waiting the rebate to arrive to close the free deal. Been using Mcafee for years.Like all the features including the parental controls. Never been hit with a major virus.

Cons: Automated scan kicks in randomly like when in the middle of burning a disk. Idle mouse does not mean idle system... Just got remember to turn it off before the burn

Other Thoughts: Was looking for a way to control my wayward son but still allow responsible folks access to the web freely in the house and was able to unblock the router and block the computer with the parental controls. A scan of the browser history allows me to keep up with what is missed.

Cons: Slows down your system because it is always secretly running other stuff in the background. Keep in mind that this sort of software is tracking everything you do on your computer and reporting it. Do some online research, you don't have to pay for a good internet security system.

Cons: It took forever to get installed. After I got it installed at last, it asked for activation code, which can't be found on the CD, the package, or the files on the CD. Will uninstall it and get back to the MS Security essential.

Even though McAfee test low in many independent test when it comes to virus detection the fact that it provides many other levels of protection it prevents you from accidently accessing infected sites or from clicking on dangerous links. These tools helps the user make smarter decisions when surfing the web. I have yet to get a single virus in over a year of using this product.

The chat support is also very good, I usually get someone withing 10 minutes. They remotely connect to your computer and fix any issues you have. Phone support is only good for 30 days but most people prefer chat support over phone support anyways.

Cons: Test low on many independent when it comes to virus detection.

Other Thoughts: Great product and I recommend it to most people with a computer no later than 3 years old since scans can sometimes slow down the computer if it runs while you are using the computer.
