Features
High-performance scanning engine - We built our next-generation scanning engine to guard your PC from the latest viruses, Trojans, spyware, rootkits, and other threats, all without seriously compromising battery life or slowing your PC down.

Safe searching and shopping - With color-coded icons next to every search result, including popular social networking sites, you'll know if the site you're about to visit is safe.

Digital data message - including the location of the blocked IP address and what makes the connection unsafe.

Home screen - Our new home screen is built with your fingers in mind. And it still works great with a track pad or mouse, so navigating to common security tasks is a breeze - on any device.

Security reports - We've redesigned the security report to bring you the information you need in visually interesting ways. The new report includes relevant images and links for an easier-to-understand snapshot of what's going on in the world of security.

Vulnerability scanner - If your OS and programs are out of date, you could be vulnerable to threats. The new vulnerability scanner checks your PC for missing updates, and then recommends solutions to keep you safe.

Malicious ads and popup protection - Websites don't always have control over the ads they display. Sometimes, you might find a risky ad on a site you trust every day.

Antispam - All those unwanted emails aren't just annoying. They're dangerous. We'll filter out all the shady stuff to keep you and your inbox protected. And the antispam engine integrates with new technology to make sure the right emails are making it into your inbox.

Parental controls - Parental controls let you block inappropriate sites with age-based rules and adjustable categories.

Surfing report - Find out what your kids have been up to online through the surfing report. You'll know when they log in, any attempts to access forbidden sites, and how much time

3 out of 5 eggsMcAfee slows machine

Pros: easy to install

Cons: It requests restarts on EVERY update. I find this annoying. It also bogs the computer down considerably. Not the things I like.

Other Thoughts: There are other products out there that I have tried and are better. If it weren't for the rebate, I would have moved on.

2 out of 5 eggsFairly effective, at a high cost

Pros: Fairly effective at avoiding different malware

Cons: Taxes the CPU quite a bit

Other Thoughts: After bad experiences with McAfee several years (and computers) ago, I hesitantly gave it another chance. Upon installation, I was reminded of one of the biggest reasons I quit using their products. I could hardly use the PC, which is a quad-core CPU with 4GB of RAM. I couldn't use my PC for much else until the auto-learning of McAfee was complete. After this process, it seemed to run smoothly for a few weeks. All of a sudden, it became a CPU hog again. I had to remove it. I did watch tests of McAfee's ability to stop viruses and malware. I even threw a few at it myself. It was fairly effective overall, as long as you faithfully use the Site Advisor browser plug-in. However, I will not go back to it because of the CPU hogging problem. I'll give Intel a few more years to refine the product before giving it another try.
