1 out of 5 eggsYou Won't Get the Rebate

Pros: The product Works OK

Cons: $25.00 rebate claim ruled Invalid for no SKU.
All I have is a square hole in the box to show it is valid.
Avoid (Deals) with rebate.
Scan a copy of the bar code!

Other Thoughts: Even though the Program works, broken rebate promise reflects on the product purchased and the retaler.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat is there to say

Pros: What is there to say about an antivirus software package. Reviews that I have seen indicate that AVG is right up there with the big brand names. It may not be the best, but it certainly isn't the worst and it does quite well at detecting viruses. I have been using the free version of AVG for years and years without any problems. On occasion, I have watched as AVG detected and intercepted a nasty when another product did not which was refreshing.

I do not believe in all inclusive virus and malware packages because they tend to place higher demands on your machine consuming your resources and ultimately slowing down your machine. Plus, I don't know if they really buy you much.

I initially began buying the full version of AVG some years ago because the price was reasonable and you get a lot of value for your money.

Cons: The serial number was a bit of a hassle. The serial number included with the package was some type of Marketing serial number. You have to register the package and provide a valid email address because the true serial number is sent in an email reply to you.

I also wished that the pamplets included in the package would have advised you to download the latest version and install it instead of installing version 2013 and then having to update it to version 2014.

Other Thoughts: The price was definitely a factor when I was looking at antivirus packages. This package gave you one year of coverage for 3 computers and it was considerably less than another antivirus that only covered one machine for a year.

All in all, I think that this package was a very good buy so if you need an antivirus package you can't go wrong with AVG.

5 out of 5 eggsThe BEST AntiVirus you can get

Pros: It really does the job. Been using AVG for almost ten years and have not had a virus or other malware problem. Like all antivirus programs, it does slow the computer a little, but I've got mine set to run every day around 9 PM when I don't normally use the computer. Others have complained about not getting their rebate - contact them. I've always gotten mine...!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm not writing this for any favors from NewEgg or AVG. I'm a real user with multiple computers that suffered with virus and malware problems when I used those other antivirus programs. I surf a lot, I have 5 email accounts, and I often visit sites that require Adobe Flash Player and still I never have any problems. Buy AVG when it's on sale via rebate, follow the rebate instructions, make a copy of all the rebate documents, and send the envelope Registered Mail. I've gotten my rebates for the last five years (I don't think they offered any before that).

5 out of 5 eggsAVG is #1 for Me

Pros: If you know how to effectively use anti-virus and don't willie-nillie click on fake "Your computer is infected" ads on websites, then AVG is the right choice for you. If you're not as good at identifying bad websites and aren't too sure how to use your anti-virus then I would suggest a more basic consumer product, such as Norton, that walks your through issues more easily. However, AVG in my experience is the most resource effective one available. It won't do too well on older systems, but runs great on newer multi-core systems. I've purchased many business licenses for my clients and usually only run into a couple viruses on employee workstations throughout the year, but that may also be attributed to web filters.

Cons: The free version is all most home users need. The paid version adds features you can do without, such as a firewall which that your computer and router likely already has.

Other Thoughts: Have experience with AVG, Norton, McAfee, Panda, Avast, Kaspersky, and others throughout my career, but have always turned to AVG.

2 out of 5 eggsAVG works OK but Rebate Never Came

Pros: AVG seems to work OK - seems to me to be slower than the previous software I used in real world situations, like loading web pages or sometimes with e-mail. Hang-ups seem to happen more with AVG.

Cons: Upset that they snagged me this year with rebate - which was supposed to take 30 days -- and now, 60 days later -- has still not come. That's twice as long as they said, plus no rebate, and I got an e-mail saying my rebate had qualified and was valid. I don't like those practices.

Other Thoughts: Disappointed overall -- and the failure to send the rebate after an e-mail saying I had met and gone through all their hoops properly has more or less iced the cake I won't be using this brand again.

1 out of 5 eggsrebate late

Pros: Newegg got it to me very fast. The software seems to work okay

Cons: The rebate was approved January 1, 2013. The AVG terms of the rebate stipulated an 8 week mailing date. Last time I checked, I was given a mailing date of 3/272013. When I mentioned to their spokesperson that that would be 13 weeks, she reminded me that the terms of the rebate said 8 weeks and that she could not help me. HUH!!!
Very, very dis-satisfied. I've been using AVG for 8 yrs.

Other Thoughts: This rebate stuff doesn't do anyone any good. Yeah the company makes a few extra buck on them, but the bad taste it leaves in a customer's mouth usually casts a shadow over all future buys.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away from AVG

Pros: Free version works.

Cons: Trying to upgrade to the paid version only because it was free after rebate. Caused numerous problems with my PC. I've now spent over 3 weeks with AVG support being told to wait 48 each time I contact them. Ive contacted them over 10 times, and spoken or chatted to probably 20 different people. Not only have they not found a solution to the initial problem of their software failed uninstalling/installing properly, they have installed several other programs and files on my PC and now refuse to remove them without me paying for a 'premium service'. I have cought them and called them out on several lies or false information they have told me and they offer no explanation. Each person simply passes the blame or responibility to someone else. They have supposedly escalated my case to their 'Level 3' techs 6 different times, but nothing has come of it, and they tell me that it is actually impossible for anyone other than themselves to contact these 'Level 3' people.

Other Thoughts: I've had AVG free versions on numberous PCs of mine, which worked fine most of the time. Because of this experience I will be removing all AVG products and installing different programs. I will never use AVG again!
