1 out of 5 eggsParallels 8

Pros: Initially, the software operated as advertised and without apparent issues. Also, additional operating systems are available from the Parallels web site. Since purchasing, two (2) updates became available. The first update downloaded and installed without apparent issues. The subsequent update rendered the program inoperatable.

Cons: This second update resulted in a Parallels error #68 (critical error), and provided a link to the Parallels KB website. This website listed two (2) separate solutions. Neither worked (for me). The program will no longer operate properly, none of the operating systems will launch, and Parallel's workarounds appear innefective in resolving these issues.

Other Thoughts: In view of the above and Parallel indicating that this was an Apple problem, I am extremely disappointed with this product.

1 out of 5 eggsCheating Upgrade Scam

Pros: Just a VM software with tons of patches and updates.

Cons: The promised upgrade to Parallel 9 never arrives. Don't trust this scamming company. They were dumping their Paralell 8 by promising a free upgrade to 9 since August, but they never kept up to their promises. Don't trust them, buyers! Fool me once, your fault. Fool me twice, my fault.

Now I ended up with a version 8, which is not quite compatible with Mavericks. And I am really angry with my devision to trust this dishonest company.

1 out of 5 eggsVersion 8 and the MOUSE DOESN'T WORK!!!!!

Pros: Makes a great GAG!

Fool your friends in thinking they'll be able to use Windows programs on their Mac, just watch their frustrated faces when they try to use the mouse in any games or autocad!!!

Seriously, what kind of backwards company releases emulator software at version 8 without even testing the mouse. I mean how small is this company? 3 people or something. Do they even test the releases? The mouse problem is huge on their forums yet Parallels continues to release BROKEN software. I bought 8 and 9 , BOTH have the same problem, don't upgrade.

Other Thoughts: Get something that works like Fusion or VirtualBox for free.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality of Integration is Fascinating

Pros: I bought this product to run a program for school and it works flawlessly. I highly recommend this product. It's like having two computers in one. Coherence mode is really well done. Windows programs, folders, and files minimize right into the OSX dock and work with all the OSX gestures. It is retina display ready and looks dazzling. Try the trial out. The product is so good it sells itself.

5 out of 5 eggsParallels 8 is Great for Office 2010

Pros: I recently upgraded from Parallels 7 to Parallels 8. The upgrade was painless and MS Office 2010 is the main reason I run Parallels at all. It now loads even quicker and looks and acts even more like a native Mac application.

Cons: None noted

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance and Stability

Pros: Performance
Ease to add OS
Competitive Pricing

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I was a longtime user of VMWare Fusion and recently switched due to lack of upgrade pricing from VMWare for a Mountain Lion compatible version. Well not just pricing I also read many reviews that showed Parallels' latest version had all the same features and out performed VMWare Fusion. I love the performance and the great features... oh and how easy it is to setup.

5 out of 5 eggsParallels Desktop 8 for Mac

Pros: I am using the Final release of Parallels 8 on my MacBook Pro with 8GB memory. I have been using Parallels since Snow Leopard (10.6) on an Intel iMac and Parallels continues to work flawlessly in Mountain Lion (10.8). The guest OS's installed are Win XP Pro 32b, Win 7 Pro 64b, Win 8 Pro 64b, Ubuntu 12.10 Linux, Zorin Linux, Pinguy Linux, Mint 64b Linux, and Mandriva Linux, all with no issues. I have run Win XP, Win 7, Win 8, and Ubuntu all at the same time with no technical issues.

Cons: If you're a gamer, the Windows applications may run a little slow. For everything else, including videos, you won't notice the difference.

Other Thoughts: This is the best way I know of to have a single platform (Mac) running multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux) for teaching purposes. If you're switching from Windows to a Mac, load your Windows OS under Parallels and you'll never miss a beat. All your Mac files will be accessible in Windows, and all your personal Windows files can be moved to the Mac. Also, consider using NeoOffice on the Mac as an alternative to MS Office.
