1 out of 5 eggsWorst Customer Service

Pros: Ok SW but don't have any issues.

Cons: Be warned!!! Absolutely the worst technical support and customer support. I have worked for major technology companies and have never experienced such poor support. You will be on phone hold for at least a half hour to an hour, there is no mailing anything to them, managers will not speak with you and it will take a long while to resolve what seems simple issues. Newegg was great though, as usual.

5 out of 5 eggsWhere are all the newegg purchase reviews?!!!

Pros: This is an excellent product. I wonder why all the reviewers on this product are not newegg purchasers. My brother is into watching videos online that come with lots of viruses. I've had to reinstall windows on his computer many times when he used to have 359+1 after installing this software in his computer he has not had a single virus incident. Yes it also protects your registry unlike the top two antivirus software.

Cons: None!!!

Other Thoughts: This product is perfect for windows XP!

1 out of 5 eggsTotally worthless

Pros: Slick

Cons: I've had this antivirus now for about four months and found it slowed my computer to an almost unusable rate. On top of that a week ago it froze up and closed the two most important security features. I tried to scan and found it wouldn't do that either. I attempted to reach support and after waiting 20 minutes on the phone I tried their online chat. After waiting 20 minutes for a response from that I uninstalled and will now get another antivirus. Even the uninstall was a problem.

Other Thoughts: I've tried three or four other antiviruses and find this to be the worst of the lot, by far.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not too severe impact on system performance. Game mode. Highly rated by CR.

Cons: I bought the 2008 version in October 2007. It work reasonably well until recently. Ended up getting infected with a virus that uses a Java vulnerability. I checked the Java on this computer and found it had not updated itself since October 2007, even though it was set for auto-update. Seems like bitdefender was somehow blocking it from updating. Bitdefender was then unable to clean up the infection. Ended up restoring the computer using a Acronis disk image.

Other Thoughts: The computer is an Windows XP unit used by my teenage son. Like most teens he sometimes visits questionable websites and downloads questionable programs. I have restored this computer three times now using Acronis. I strongly recommend the use of an imaging program if you have teens. Also, parental controls for this software is not very good- too porous, unless you set it up very carefully. Due to the recent virus problem, I have now switched to a competing product.

2 out of 5 eggsSlows down PC

Pros: It does what it's supposed to do. Scans in background constantly and regularly updates itself.

Cons: Causes slow load times in programs and especially on the internet. Web pages seem to load very slowly. You can put the software into "game" mode for MMORPGs, but it still seems to cause lag times.

Other Thoughts: Running trial version (thankfully I didn't have to pay to know I don't like it.)

5 out of 5 eggsMost Powerful

Pros: I used this program for a while and I can only tell you this problem is the most powerful anti-virus software in the market right now. It is rated the top 1 Anti-virus in most of the reviews and magazines. It is Strong, powerful and protective.

Cons: The only downside is that it requires a lot of resources. In another word, it will slow down your PC/Laptop.

Other Thoughts: Powerful stuff...

2 out of 5 eggsBitDefender

Pros: BitDefender tells you when it has blocked a virus. I feel a fairly high level of security with BitDefender Total Security. But for me, BitDefender by itself has not been enough.

Cons: In February - March 2008 I bought from BitDefender 2 X 3Packs of BitDefender Total Security for 5 PCs in our household. There was a learning curve that took a few months but am comfortable I am using the software correctly. Even though I have been very careful to keep the machines updated, BitDefender does not protect from everything. I have had Trojans get into my machines that BitDefender did not guard against. Instead I have had to use my old standbys, SpyBot and Clamwin to run to at those times.
I have even had to boot to a Linux Live CD in order to remove some of the infected files. The only other Security software I have ever owned was a McAfee product and that was many years ago. I stopped using McAfee because it was too difficult to use.
I have cancelled my automatic renewal to BitDefender and am looking for another product.

Other Thoughts: BitDefender is a highly rated product. I will replace it with a different highly rated product.

5 out of 5 eggsTotally Works!

Pros: This product was easy to install, easy to use and very effective. You get good protection immediately upon install, but it has advanced features you can set up as time goes on. Besides the password protection, it has a registry cleaner, a file shredder (totally erases deleted files so that others cannot use a utility program to recover them), 2 gb of on-line backup, etc.

Cons: Nothing so far.

Other Thoughts: Would have bought the 3PC / 2 year product for the rest of my pc's if I'd known it was this good.

1 out of 5 eggsBad program, worse company

Pros: Seems to be a good product at first.

Cons: After about two months the issues start. First it started crashing whenever I put it into game mode. Then internet became unusable unless game mode was on and hence all protection is off, but it might crash doing so.

And then about one year later when you're good and tired of BitDefender and about to switch you find out they are about to autorenew your membership. You follow the instructions given to cancel the auto renew (I did it twice since there is no confirmation given, just a cryptic email encouraging you to renew your subscription). Then you get a charge on your account for the autorenew. So you call them, and are promptly left in queue for upwards of an hour, and this is a long-distance charge as they don't have a toll-free number for US customers. You do live chat with people who say "So sorry, I'll make a ticket and someone will send you an email describing what to do". Then you wait and wait but no email comes, chat again and they say the same thing.

Other Thoughts: I ultimately had to dispute the charges with my bank since BitDefender just gives you the run around without ever actually refunding you. Bad product from a company with worse practices.
