4 out of 5 eggsBitdefender 2012 /2013

Pros: Been running this (3 user) for a year and a half.
Seems to do the job very well.
Only complaint is it continually shows 40- 50 message threats. I realize many are tracking and adware based whick should. e temoved, there all cookie files, some of which I'd like to keep, ie saved log on user names ect. but I cant find a way to selectivley have the app to ignore the ones I want to keep.
Seems like it. could ask before storing a cookie file or not. Explorer asks and remembers which ones to remember, I'm sure a quick patch could do the same.
This of course would need to be optional (off/on) for corp. or business use. but would be perfect for home users. Currently my wife runs a scan and sees all the error listings she assumes her pc is all virused up

Cons: listed above

Other Thoughts: none

1 out of 5 eggs history of bad

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: As a corporation, we had the bit defender and even though it used very little system resources, it allowed through a crippling virus through and replicated all through our network. We were in mid contract year and dropped bit defender and bought Symantec.

3 out of 5 eggsYaaawwnnnn

Pros: I am using the trial version of this software before purchasing after my paid for version of Avast 6 expired. Seems to be catching the ad tracking cookies web sites deposit. Installation was without issue on my Win7 box. A full system scan took about an hour.

Cons: Disappointments so far:

1. The environment for bank website surfing traps out of the desktop environment. That means if you have a ton of username/password pairs that you copy-paste when logging on to those sites, you can not do that. You must write down your user/pass and then type it in.
2. In search results, regularly indicates a site is safe, when the search engine (yahoo, etc.) says the site is suspicious.
3. The file shredder would not delete .xps image capture files for some reason. There might be other file types it will not shred. Txt, .PDF, .xls, and .docx seem to shred fine.

Other Thoughts: After a weeks use I am definitely not drawn to buy. Its OK at best. I may upgrade to Avast 8 or try out Norton 2013.

3 out of 5 eggsNot as intuitive as I was hoping

Pros: One of the best antivirus programs out there, this product will protect your computers. So far it scans my system faster than any programs I have tried (Norton, McAfee, AVG). However that's about it, if all you are looking for is antivirus protection, then this is it.

Cons: Parental Controls, firewall, overall interface, these were things I was hoping this program would be an improvement over the other software packages I have tried in the past. The last product Internet Security package I was using was NIS (Norton Internet Security), overall that was a great product, however the parental controls were slowing my kids' internet connection so much that they just didn't use it, rather they would wait till I got home from work to use my laptop.

Bitdefender has completely fallen short even of that. Although it has not slowed the internet connection for them, it is just completely off about which sites should/shouldn't be blocked. The more frustrating part is, I would "whitelist" the most used sites but Bitdefender would not update its rules until I reboot the computer. It also does not track Windows' accounts properly, I have been working with support for about 3 months and still no resolution. I have uninstalled/installed and reconfigured the entire product (including manually recreating whitelists for each of my four children) way more times than I have with any other software.

I also prefer a pretty restrict firewall, however even after configuring it as I would like it seems to sometimes conflict with itself. Even specifying which program to access the internet, it sometimes would allow the connection and sometimes block the connection without any configuration changes. Even turning on "Game Mode" had no affect of how this was functioning. So even though I really do not like running in a less restrictive mode, I have because turning on certain levels of security just does not seem to work well.

As for the interface, it seems simple enough at first but I found myself clicking way more times searching for certain options than I usually do with this type of software.

Other Thoughts: I really really wanted to like this software, everything I keep reading pointed to this product being one of the best security packages out there. In regards to how this product has given me grief, I am turning off certain features and running other parts that at least allow my family to use the computer. I not overly concerned about the parental software, since my kids are only permitted to use the computers in the open family/dinning rooms. I know it takes some time for parental software to mature and I really can't see paying $40+ just for that specific piece/separate software.

If all you are looking for is a very good antivirus and a firewall just a little better than the "Windows Firewall", then this product is good for you. However if you are like me and were hoping for the additional items with internet security packages, look elsewhere... I will most likely be looking into Avast!, AVIRA, or ESET

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the best

Pros: Editors choice by a personal computer magazine (kinda gotta read between the lines there). Several independent testing labs have declared it the absolute best at all phases of computer protection and I have to agree. Flawless performance for over the two years I have been using it and it just continues to get better. When they do a major product up grade they notify you and give you that upgrade for free right then instead of waiting until next year and jacking up the price. Nowhere near the resource hog as the one in the bright yellow box. Actually you'll never notice it is there working its heart out for you.

Cons: Seriously? I can't think of a thing to complain about with this product. Unless you want to count not being able to complain about anything.

Other Thoughts: I got the two year/ 3 computer, 2013 version on sale for a nickel less than ten bucks. That's seventy bucks off of retail for that particular SKU. That's just crazy!! Thanks Newegg!! You continue to rock!! Even your packing dept. has FINALLY gotten somewhat better.

4 out of 5 eggsShipping SSlllooowww

Pros: Have use Bitdefender for over 2 years. Love/hate relationship but at the end it does it's job.

Cons: Issue this time was ordered on 12/13, shipped on 12/17 and it hasn't arrived yet. Only made it from TN to GA before it went into USPS so don't know what that achieved. Very disappointed in my shipping experience and NewEgg this time.

Other Thoughts: Never got a note on delay of 4 days before shipping.

1 out of 5 eggsREBATES HARD TO GET

Pros: NONE:

Cons: Welshing on rebates, more profit for suppliers. Time limit on mailing paper work. I suggest if you purchase use the Postal label Delivery confirmation because it only cost less than a dollar. This is one way to beat these crooks.

Cons: none as yet
