4 out of 5 eggsDecent, not perfect but decent

Pros: ---Bought on 3/20/2013 and am running this suite on 3 computers both AMD and Intel. ---

Easy to use, simple interface, attractive black appearance, can be almost completely hidden. Very few real viruses get through. Bitdefender 2013 is a fantastic suite for laptops. I specifically bought this suite for several laptops that needed an non intrusive suite that has AV, Firewall and more goodies built in. For the price if you catch it on sale it's perfect. I wouldn't pay full retail price for it but even if you do it's still great. Again it works great on laptops even a low end dual core net book running at 1.0 Ghz. The fact that the scans only run when the computer is idle is great for a laptop, you can open the lid and get right to work without the worry of a scan interfering with a low end net book or slower laptop. My wife hasn't complained one single time about the suite interfering with her work...that would be the first time ever. Also the suite does a full system scan fairly quickly on an HDD but it's lightning fast on an SSD.

Cons: Recovery mode doesn't always work, occasional false alarms. Auto game mode doesn't always turn on, this mainly happens with steam games.

It only scans when i'm not using the computer (idling), this is by design. But for me it's an inconvenience, scheduling scans is a hassle. I'm a network tech and spend 12 hours a day on a work computer. So when I come home I use my gaming desktop and the AV has no time to run a scan. So in turn in have to start a manual scan. I would love an easier way to schedule scans on the computer. But again it's great for laptops just a little annoying if you use it on a gaming desktop that is only run every other day.

Other Thoughts: If you run this suite on a laptop it's great.

If you run this on a desktop it might annoy you a little bit if you don't let the computer idle and perform scans.

1 out of 5 eggsWill never install again

Pros: Price.

Cons: Just awful. I rarely spend the time reviewing things, but this is just a poor product compared to others, in terms of overall user experience. It gave me all sorts of problems with my network, firewall, slowed three separate computers down. Had numerous issues telling Windows that I actually had an antivirus product installed (which were resolved), switched modes on me (from autopilot), etc. Detected false positive on file that passed ESET and Kaspersky and MS Security Essentials. I don't understand the hype of this product. I will NEVER install it again. I even tried again with the latest release that just came out... similar issues. Just can't believe these guys are highly rated. ESET and Kaspersky are better in my experience.

1 out of 5 eggsBitdefender

Pros: I'm sorry. There are NO pros for Bitdefender.
If it were possible, my rating would be -2.

Cons: If only I had believed the warnings. It's my own fault. I was sucked in by the cheap price. Who knew it could be so expensive? I KNOW NOW!! I've removed Bitdefender 6 times and I'm still finding leftover pieces deep in my computer. I've finally surrendered - I bought a new computer. My "no-cost manufacturer rebate computer protection" has cost me deeply. WARNING! DO NOT PURCHASE BITDEFENDER!! The price is too great.

Other Thoughts: I'm so very sorry I fell for the "great deal". 'Sucker' of the year.

The price is too great!

1 out of 5 eggsBitdefender freezes during installation

Pros: The Bitdefender email promotion price was cheap.
I've learned that the next time, I'll read the Newegg reviews before I purchase anything.

Cons: I purchased Bitdefender Internet Security directly from Bitdefender as a response to an email I received from the company due to past ownership of the product. I have since remembered why I stopped using it.

I am unable to install Bitdefender on Windows 7 Pro 64. During the installation process, Bitdefender freezes and locks up the system. I then have to do a hard reboot to regain system access. The workarounds offered do not work and since I paid only the discount price for this product, I'm writing it off as a lesson learned to use a different antivirus or internet security product.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat until it breaks your OS

Pros: Nice looking product

Cons: Used product on Windows 7 Pro. Had it for a few months. I would randomly get blue screens. Then they became more and more frequent. Gone to the point that I would boot the OS and it would blue screen within seconds. Symptoms/errors made me think it was hardware. About to take it to a shop because of how frustrating it got, took a guess about removing the AntiVirus. System has been stable ever since.

Other Thoughts: Good luck, it worked fine for a few months then blew up my system!

4 out of 5 eggsBitdefender 2012 /2013

Pros: Been running this (3 user) for a year and a half.
Seems to do the job very well.
Only complaint is it continually shows 40- 50 message threats. I realize many are tracking and adware based whick should. e temoved, there all cookie files, some of which I'd like to keep, ie saved log on user names ect. but I cant find a way to selectivley have the app to ignore the ones I want to keep.
Seems like it. could ask before storing a cookie file or not. Explorer asks and remembers which ones to remember, I'm sure a quick patch could do the same.
This of course would need to be optional (off/on) for corp. or business use. but would be perfect for home users. Currently my wife runs a scan and sees all the error listings she assumes her pc is all virused up

Cons: listed above

Other Thoughts: none

1 out of 5 eggs history of bad

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: As a corporation, we had the bit defender and even though it used very little system resources, it allowed through a crippling virus through and replicated all through our network. We were in mid contract year and dropped bit defender and bought Symantec.

3 out of 5 eggsYaaawwnnnn

Pros: I am using the trial version of this software before purchasing after my paid for version of Avast 6 expired. Seems to be catching the ad tracking cookies web sites deposit. Installation was without issue on my Win7 box. A full system scan took about an hour.

Cons: Disappointments so far:

1. The environment for bank website surfing traps out of the desktop environment. That means if you have a ton of username/password pairs that you copy-paste when logging on to those sites, you can not do that. You must write down your user/pass and then type it in.
2. In search results, regularly indicates a site is safe, when the search engine (yahoo, etc.) says the site is suspicious.
3. The file shredder would not delete .xps image capture files for some reason. There might be other file types it will not shred. Txt, .PDF, .xls, and .docx seem to shred fine.

Other Thoughts: After a weeks use I am definitely not drawn to buy. Its OK at best. I may upgrade to Avast 8 or try out Norton 2013.

3 out of 5 eggsNot as intuitive as I was hoping

Pros: One of the best antivirus programs out there, this product will protect your computers. So far it scans my system faster than any programs I have tried (Norton, McAfee, AVG). However that's about it, if all you are looking for is antivirus protection, then this is it.

Cons: Parental Controls, firewall, overall interface, these were things I was hoping this program would be an improvement over the other software packages I have tried in the past. The last product Internet Security package I was using was NIS (Norton Internet Security), overall that was a great product, however the parental controls were slowing my kids' internet connection so much that they just didn't use it, rather they would wait till I got home from work to use my laptop.

Bitdefender has completely fallen short even of that. Although it has not slowed the internet connection for them, it is just completely off about which sites should/shouldn't be blocked. The more frustrating part is, I would "whitelist" the most used sites but Bitdefender would not update its rules until I reboot the computer. It also does not track Windows' accounts properly, I have been working with support for about 3 months and still no resolution. I have uninstalled/installed and reconfigured the entire product (including manually recreating whitelists for each of my four children) way more times than I have with any other software.

I also prefer a pretty restrict firewall, however even after configuring it as I would like it seems to sometimes conflict with itself. Even specifying which program to access the internet, it sometimes would allow the connection and sometimes block the connection without any configuration changes. Even turning on "Game Mode" had no affect of how this was functioning. So even though I really do not like running in a less restrictive mode, I have because turning on certain levels of security just does not seem to work well.

As for the interface, it seems simple enough at first but I found myself clicking way more times searching for certain options than I usually do with this type of software.

Other Thoughts: I really really wanted to like this software, everything I keep reading pointed to this product being one of the best security packages out there. In regards to how this product has given me grief, I am turning off certain features and running other parts that at least allow my family to use the computer. I not overly concerned about the parental software, since my kids are only permitted to use the computers in the open family/dinning rooms. I know it takes some time for parental software to mature and I really can't see paying $40+ just for that specific piece/separate software.

If all you are looking for is a very good antivirus and a firewall just a little better than the "Windows Firewall", then this product is good for you. However if you are like me and were hoping for the additional items with internet security packages, look elsewhere... I will most likely be looking into Avast!, AVIRA, or ESET
