1 out of 5 eggsHorrible product, Horrible support

Pros: would be nice if it worked on all computers

Cons: Where to begin . .I launched safebox and BSOD! at odd times programs would lockup and cursor would change to some goliath of a pointer fort a few moment before total lockup. The computer would not revive from sleep mode or hibernate. I also had to hard boot EVERY TIME I shut down. Soft shutdown was stuck on black screen.
Support took a week to respond and eventually gave a response that had no correlation to the problem then another 2 weeks ro respond.
I solved the problem, I removed Bitdefender and like magic my computer works without a flaw!

1 out of 5 eggsBitdefender Sphere BSOD'd Windows to death

Pros: I'm sure Bitdefender is great if you don't have a program it conflicts with.

Cons: Bitdefender did NOT play well with the VPN software I was using. Shortly after installing BD, I started getting intermittent BSODs. This was during the holidays, so I didn't have time to troubleshoot it.

After a few days (maybe a week or so) of this, Windows refused to start up. There were apparently a bunch of corrupted DLLs, and ultimately nothing short of a Windows repair install managed to fix the problem.

I'm sure there is only a very limited number of programs with which BD has such a violent conflict, but in my case BD was utterly unusable.

5 out of 5 eggsNot win 8 compatible (out of box)

Pros: Good protection. The product has a simple dashboard for user control. Has gaming mode settings. I am pleased with it.

Cons: Win 8 users must download a compatible version from manufactures web site. A link to this update is provided.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Security Software Ever

Pros: It will have been free if the rebate ever comes, apart from the cost in time and frustration.

A free upgrade to the latest version of Total Security is available for download on the Bitdefender forums to purchasers of this product. It doesn't fix any bugs that I've seen, but it does add more features such as an online wallet, if this version didn't give you enough features already.

Cons: This is without a doubt the worst security software I have ever used in over 25 years of experience. It's very bloated with all sorts of unnecessary features and continually nags you to re-enable any of its less useful components you may have disabled, such as antiphishing, antispam, or its online wallet.

It features constant popups that interrupt full screen applications, knocking videos out of full-screen mode and crashing games. These popups are generated not to let you know that it has found something that needs your attention but rather simply to let you know it has started looking or, best of all, to let you know it's entered "game mode" and won't be bugging you with more popups. Yes, it seriously generates a popup after you start a full-screen application letting you know it won't generate any more popups, which of course no longer matters because the first popup has already crashed your game.

But worst of all, should you ever make the mistake of actually running a scan with the antivirus component, it will pick a random selection of files from your computer, claim that they contain a virus such as Gen:Trojan.Heur.GM.0160400002 (translation: a generic trojan detected by heuristics; ie: not really a trojan at all because their heuristics are horrible) and irrevocably delete them. That's right, it doesn't put them in quarantine. It doesn't block access. It just deletes them without asking. If you're lucky and they were normal files you can probably get them back with recovery software. If they were part of some obscure type of archive you can pretty much forget it. They're gone.

Contacting customer support to find out if there's any way to recover your files is equally fruitless. If you try to use their online chat support it will pretend to be connecting you to a person, take your info, and then tell you nobody's available and ask to send your issue by email instead to an email address it chooses. If you agree to this, you will shortly get a mailer daemon response telling you that the email address you have contacted is no longer valid. Calling them on the phone lets you wait on hold for 20 minutes before it connects you to a gentleman with a very thick Indian accent who will ask you to hold for another 20 minutes before he explains that he knows nothing about how the software works and that someone from customer service will email you about it shortly. You will then receive an email from the software department asking to see your log files so they can improve their heuristics. Nobody will ever actually admit that there's no way for them to get your files back.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had any trouble yet with the mobile application, although I wasn't able to install it on my Kindle Fire because it requires access to the Google Play store. My email to customer service regarding this issue never received a response. Considering the issues I've had with this company, I doubt I'll get the mobile app a chance to screw me over and will likely be uninstalling it from my phone soon.

3 out of 5 eggsWrong product for rebate?...

Pros: Low resource

Cons: Price tag...

Other Thoughts: I don't know if others have realized this yet, but there is a discrepancy in the rebate form and the product listed on newegg.com. The rebate form requires Sphere 2013; however, the one listed above is Sphere 2012. What makes matters more confusing is that the rebate form has a picture of Sphere 2012.

I have already contacted Bitdefender Rebate department to see if those that purchased this particular product can still receive a rebate. I will keep you all posted.

5 out of 5 eggs1 year, unlimited devices, perfect price

Pros: Top rated antivirus, Unlimited devices for one year, after sale and mail-in rebate= free, gamer friendly, low resource usage, Mybitdefender webservice. Works on Windows, Macintosh, and Android.

Cons: none to speak of

Other Thoughts: Linux and IOS would make this package beyond perfect, but isn't important. I have tried other anti-virus programs and this rates with the top

5 out of 5 eggsClean, light, fast, and very effective

Pros: I have used the free version of AVG for years. I have wanted to try Bitdefender, and with this offer there is little reason not to. Upon installation, Bitdefender volunteered to automatically remove AVG and utilize an Internet connection to install from the newest version.

Bitdefender found dozens of trojans, which had been on the system for quite some time. I noticed an increase in overall speed, even on an I7 only used for coding Internet Applications.

Web browsing appears faster, and the ability to utilize Game mode is very nice.

Cons: My tower has two network interface cards and for what ever reason the fire opted to activate the one I am not using.

Fortunately, I have setup Shorewall and other Linux Based firewalls so I was able to swiftly register a device and provide the proper permissions. The two Laptop installs, went without a hitch.

Other Thoughts: The single best pro is multi devices including my Droid phones.
