2 out of 5 eggs2 for 2 BAD! Ugh

Pros: Nice looking box

Cons: I bought 2 of these, both failed miserably. The first would revert to PXE firmware settings, and could not be used EVER as a proper NIC. Then it registered 77777777777 as the MAC address in diags.exe. DEAD as a doornail.

The second, works as a NIC, except there is massive data corruption from it. It roaches every piece of data that passes through it. Multiple driver versions attempted, in both XP and W2003 Server. Blah....

Other Thoughts: Intel...what is there to say. They have good days and bad days. I was bummed, as I want the bandwidth that good NICs give, but alas, these were a let down. I will try dealing with Intel, as they claim a lifetime warranty. We'll see.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: No problems with these -- seem pretty solid. We're able to pump out a good 800+ Mbits/sec on these with our existing cat5 cabling that we used for fast ethernet before this.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Be very careful when selecting gigabit switches. We went through 2 different all gigabit switches (advertised to run at 10/100/1000 per port) before we finally found one that actually worked with mixed speeds on different ports.

2 out of 5 eggsHigh Power Requirements

Pros: Inexpensive gigabit network adapter, Intel brand name, good driver and documentation support, works great in desktop computers.

Cons: Intel admits this card can draw as high as 1.5A on startup, which can cause problems with some systems at boot. Observed this in Dell PowerEdge 6400 and 6450 servers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Card does what it should. I use this for my Linux server/PBX and have had zero issues. All major Distros support this card via the e1000 driver.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful NIC

Pros: Very Easy Install. Very fast Transfer Rates.

Cons: For some people, the Price.

Other Thoughts: This NIC is by far the best one I have used. I replaced an Onboard nvidia NIC that had intermittent network problems with Peachtree and other Network Apps. I stuck this guy in, and all my Network Problems with that one computer went away. I highly recommend this Network Card. You get what you pay for and more with this Intel NIC. NewEgg Shipped Fast.

5 out of 5 eggsLargest Jumbo Packet NIC

Pros: MTU can be pushed to 16110 in Linux/Other OS. Good performance.

Cons: No connection for network activity led header connection to front of case.

Other Thoughts: Best NIC for under 50usd.
