5 out of 5 eggsGreat NIC Card

Pros: Great Card for a good price
Stable performance
Extremely Fast

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I used this card to replace my on board NIC in my ESXi server since ESXi 6.0 no longer works with the on board chipset. I had the old drivers injected by they where stuck at half duplex and 10 Mbps limiting my virtual server traffic. After installing this NIC my card jumped up to 1000 Mbps and now I am able to copy gigabytes of data around in just a few minutes instead of hours.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It does what it is intended to do. It fits in the full height PCI slot, and adds an additional gigabit network card to older motherboards that have the older style PCI slots.

Cons: Not really any with this actual card.

Other Thoughts: I was needing an additional network card to enable me to make an older PC become a router. The card works flawlessly thus far, and I have no complaints. Most current builds of Linux have the drivers/modules for this card are native, so compatibility is at a premium. I would suggest this card for such an application if you only have the old PCI slots, if you have the newer PCIe slots, go with the PCIe version, even if you have the PCI slot available, especially if you plan on doing anything with regards to making a local mirror for frequently used websites.

3 out of 5 eggsIntel PWLA8391GT Desktop Adapter PRO/1000 GT 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI 1 x RJ45 - OEM - Awesome when it works

Pros: I got this card to get better internet experience, since I do work from home. I use VOIP, RDP, GTM, etc......
Everything is faster when it works correctly.

I can only hope I got a lemon and that there will be a good solution to end the frustrations of trying to resolve dropped connections.

It there were no dropped connections I'd give this card 5 eggs.

Cons: - Intermittently drops connections (not good when talking to a customer)
- Setting card to 1 Gbps resolved the issue for a short time
- Driver updates does not help
- I going to have to call Intel to resolve this issue and hope they can resolve the issue or send a working card
- I spent too much time on trying to solve this issue
- I have never seen NIC cards do dropped connections

Other Thoughts: I'm running Vista and this card seems to certified for it. I wish I could give 5 eggs, but no can do.

5 out of 5 eggsGood NIC.

Pros: I used this on a workstation where the motherboard's on-board ethernet had died. Works as soon as you turn the computer back on.

Not having to install a driver is very nice.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I really liked not needing to install a driver. I wish all hardware worked like this.

5 out of 5 eggsBest PCI Network Adaptor

Pros: In my opinion this is the best PCI network adaptor. It is compatable across multiple operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD.

Cons: It is just PCI, and thus has the limitations of the PCI bus.

Other Thoughts: If you need a PCI network adaptor get this one.

5 out of 5 eggsShipping

Pros: I ordered this card on 10/4 and noticed it was coming from antonline which kind of worried me a little. I had been busy and hadn't had the time to check emails for shipping until last night 10/7 where i found a tracking number with no information populated. But I revived the card today and the packaging is labeled USPS first class! they Rock! only paid for 5-7 day shipping and they sent it first class!

Cons: Nothing so far will know more in the future if any issues come out of this working like claimed in Linux environment!

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my home Linux server i built recently because It's a hinds 57 build out of parts I had laying around and the motherboard used only had a 10/100 on-board network. This server also hosts a team speak 3 a backup ftp for a hosting company I admin for, and a home file server. amongst other projects i work on and need tested within an actual Linux web hosting environment. I used to use Dell Power Edge 2850 rack mounts but got tired of the noise in the current location that the rack mount servers brought,. those will now be backup servers and only turned on as needed.

4 out of 5 eggsSomewhat compatible with VMware ESXi 5.5 U2

Pros: It's an Intel network card.
It doesn't get as hot as Broadcom and Realtek chipsets do, so it won't need an aftermarket heatsink.
This card is mostly compatible with VMware ESXi 5.5 U2 (but please see Cons).

Cons: The first time I plugged it in, VMware ESXi 5.5 U2 claimed that this network card was not on the hardware compatibility list. I turned off the computer, re-seated the card, and it now works fine. I'm more than a little bit concerned about this.

Other Thoughts: It's a bonafide Intel network chipset. The chip doesn't get as hot as most of the other PCI cards do (Realtek and Broadcom chipsets get frighteningly hot). I have some machines that do not have PCI and could use a network card that doesn't require an aftermarket heatsink.

5 out of 5 eggsFast!

Pros: Faster than the built-in NIC on my ASUS P5G41-M LE/CSM LGA 775 Intel G41 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard, which I found out after said NIC failed me. It fit in an old style PCI slot just fine, and works well. I mean, what else are you going to use a PCI slot for? A GPU? Not quite.

Cons: None apparent.

Other Thoughts: I'll grant you the ASUS motherboard is a bit dated, but so is this NIC, and it works well in combination. The Intel NIC's firmware is easy to use, especially if you're used to working with Intel motherboards, which I was using at the time, since I was working at Intel (not "for", "at") at the time. I wasn't an Intel employee, but I like the quality of their products. I am a professional system administrator, with more than 20 years of experience, so when I say my "tech knowledge" is "high", I'm for real.
