1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy if you want it to work as advertised

Pros: Auto Detects in Windows server 2003

Cons: No supported drivers for server 2003. Specs stated drivers were available, but there was no cd, and the link provided did not have any supported drivers for Server 2003 that worked.

When you click the auto executable to install, there is no selection to install drivers - like the documentation claims. It seems Intel messed up the easy way to instal. So, when I tried to manually install the card it would not work with the drivers in the download. When it did detect through MS windows up date, it only detected 100MB not 1GH that I needed the card for. This is a very deceptive way to do business, and I will not be buying from INTEL again when I am looking for NIC cards.

5 out of 5 eggsRecommended Product

Pros: * Good performance.

* Hassle-free driver installation.

Cons: * None have been noted to date.

Other Thoughts: We used one of these cards to get a UNIX server back on line after the embedded 1000Base-T hardware failed. The target server is running SCO OpenServer 5 and we picked this card because it has a compatible SCO driver in VOL format. Installation went without a hitch, and in less than 15 minutes the server was up and running.

We have also used these cards in desktop machines with various Windows flavors. Installation was uneventful in all cases.

We recommend this product.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome NIC

Pros: Intel Pro GT Desktop Adapters are IMHO the BEST NIC's available for desktop systems. The reliability of these are great and they have great software to go with them. Intel is still making recent drivers for these systems including Windows XP. If you use older systems, you can still get driers for Windows 98se, DOS and various other systems. These are in plain boxes which is fine since I do not need a fancy Retail box. We insist on Intel NIC's at work since they have the least problems and they work reliably.

Cons: None. PCI, but not really a choice as some of these older systems I have still have PCI instead of PCI-e.

Other Thoughts: If you are tired of your "built-in" NIC, then I would recommend you get some of these great cards. INTEL does a great job with these devices and my next purchase will be for the PCI-e version since my new system still does not use an Intel NIC!

5 out of 5 eggsGigabit Nic

Pros: Iv'e been using this NIC since 2006. It has been in several machines and is compatable with many operating systems, and is still going strong in 2011. It currently resides in my media/file server where it runs nearly all day @ 1.0Gbs

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Not a con but the only reason im not using it currently is because I have the Crosshair V Formula Thunderbolt.

3 out of 5 eggsNo Full support for Win7/Serv 2008R2

Pros: Good performance for its price, simple and fast to install. Has worked with various versions of Windows, freenas, ubuntu and more.

Cons: Intel has dropped full support for this NIC on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 giving you the basic default windows drivers. This will be an issue if you plan on utilizing advanced features like teaming or VLANs. There is a possible way to trick the OS by using the previous revision of drivers such as if server 2008 R2 download the drivers for 2008, extract and update manually. If Win7 download the drivers for Vista, extract and update manually through device manager. Once these are updated the intel management application can configure advanced settings.

Other Thoughts: Its working, but intel appears to be dropping support for this card and may be phasing it out.

5 out of 5 eggsCompatible with Dell Dimension E310

Pros: Good price. Compatiblity with Dell Dimension E310

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: After integrated ethernet card failed on an old Dell E310 computer it looked like it might be time to replace it. Installing this NIC along with 2gb of ram have been just what the doctor ordered. Surfing and processing painlessly again.

This Intel PWLA8391GT PRO was easy to install (less than 10 minutes) and recognized immediately by computer upon next boot up. Installed drivers from disc and voila, it's running like a new computer. Connection and download speeds are noticeably faster.
