4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card but its PCI-X not PCI

Pros: Great Network Card. Great Price

Cons: I did my research but not in-depth enough. Card was going into a Sco Unix server so I needed a card that had Sco Unix 6.0 Drivers.
Sco site said this card was PCI bus and New Egg shows it as PCI.
Got the card and its PCI-X.
The Mother Board I have has 5 PCI, I ISA and 1 PCI X. The PCI X is being used by an adapted 5405.
Will Need to return the card and research it more

Other Thoughts: Ill give it 4 eggs because the card itself is an excellent network/server card.

1 Egg removed because of the incorrect bus type.

Its difficult to find a true PCI bus card these days.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine with ESXi 4.1/5.0

Pros: Have been passing this through to our firewall VM for quite some time with no issues on an Asus P8B WS motherboard - has been stable, doesn't generate as much heat as our other NICs and has no dramas working with ESXi 4.1 or 5.0. Works well in a regular PCI slot.

Cons: You probably won't be able to get 2gb/s in a regular PCI slot but if you're using it for an application which won't ever reach speeds like that (e.g. ADSL firewall) then that won't ever be an issue.

Other Thoughts: The four-port version apparently won't work in a regular PCI slot so this is the most cost effective way of us maximising the ports per slot in our server.

5 out of 5 eggs16k mtu

Pros: Intel's pro 1000 series are the only cards that support mtus up to 16k, that's most cisco gear, but if you get the right setup these guys scream!

Cons: the price is worth is

Other Thoughts: these server grade cards are the staple of x86 enterprise computing

5 out of 5 eggsFreeBSD Support Perfect

Pros: This card works very well in a BSD based environment. In our particular setup we are using the cards in a 1U racked PFSense firewall. The extra port comes in perfect for CARP/Failover setup. Drivers were supported immediately upon installation - FreeBSD recognized them without any hastle.

Cons: None.

Comments: I've used these for some Linux based routers/firewalls/traffic shapers and so far they have worked excellently.
