5 out of 5 eggsWorks with USB after my HP P4515 internal card died.

Pros: I wanted to use it on a mixed peer-to-peer network of Windows 7 and 8.1 computers. It works perfect for me. I choose this one because it appeared to be the newest newegg had. While the IOGEAR GPSU21 had the most reviews, it also appeared to be the most ancient.

Cons: It comes with a weird default IP address of 192.168.2.2. After following the included instructions and changing it, using the brower-based configuration interface it worked perfectly. (Of course it's NOT Bi-Directional, forget about using it with a scanner/MFP.)

Other Thoughts: (MARIO M. gave detailed instructions in these reviews on 5/25/14) I used a network cable plugged directly into my laptop that had only accessed the network via WiFi, so I could skip down to about step #5.
I did not touch the install CD that came with it, I used the brower-based configuration interface. This method is not for the networking faint of heart, IF you don't know networking, caveat emptor, I can't vouch for the install CD.

Based on other reviews it got a lot of bad press. I don't know how many got bad hardware, but I expect some threw in the towel because they couldn't figure out the networking, with the weird default IP address.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great with my Epson Artisan 50 and Windows 7 & 8 clients

Pros: + Works very well as a TCPIP Print Server.

+ Can be setup entirely from the brower-based configuration interface. You do not need to use the included utility.

+ Reliability has been rock solid.

Cons: - The browser interface could be prettier and more intuitive. You click Setup Wizard at the top menu of the UI to edit configuration items.

Other Thoughts: * Here is the setup procedure that I used:

1. Connect the print server to your network switch/router.

2. If your home network's subnet is 192.168.2.X, then goto step 9.

3. Change your computer's network adapter TCPIP settings to use a static IP of 192.168.2.1 instead of DHCP.

4. Restart the computer or disable/enable the network adapter.

5. Log on to the print server's browser based configuration interface at 192.168.2.2.

6. Change the IP address of the print server to a static IP within the same subnet as your home network. I chose 192.168.1.2. Save and exit.

7. Change your computer's network adapter TCPIP settings back to DHCP.

8. Restart the computer or disable/enable the network adapter.

9. Log on to the print server's browser based configuration interface at its IP address (default is 192.168.2.2, mine is 192.168.1.2).

10. Disable IPX (Netware), NetBEUI, and AppleTalk on the print server. Save and exit.

11. Add your printer device: From the "Add a printer" wizard in Windows, select "Add local printer". Then, create a "Standard TCP/IP Port" with the IP address of the print server. Finally, select your printer's driver.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Mistake

Pros: see below

Cons: see below

Other Thoughts: I should have paid more attention to the other reviews here. This thing is impossible to set up and I am still waiting for an RMA from Startech. Their tech support guy could not get any of our PCs to recognize either of the two print servers we were trying to set up -- even wired directly into the PC (forget about the network).
That is sick....avoid this thing at all costs!

1 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: Small, light, simple

Cons: Default ip address not in range for most typical home routers. Would have been far more sensible to let it get an address from the router.

Other Thoughts: Comes with a default ip address of 192.168.2.2. Most home routers have a range of 192.168.1.1 - 199 or 192.168.0.1 - 199 which means for most people - you won't be able to access this router. You will either have to change your router or configure your Ethernet port to a fixed address and directly connect to it. That's what I did. However, after configuring so it would be visible on my home network, I could never access it again. Updating its settings caused it to fail. Its now in the trash can.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: I have an HP Laserjet 3200 and this server works great.

Cons: Tricky to setup but once you do should be good to go been running mine for 1-2 years and still working I'm impressed.

Other Thoughts: They could polish up the software a little but once you get to know it it's not to bad.

3 out of 5 eggsHorrible to configure

Pros: Unlike some other cheap print servers at least this one works (more-or-less).

Cons: Stupid default IP address 192.168.2.2 ? Come on! At least default to DHCP and let me print off the config.

Have not been able to get it to work with Win 7 64 bit. Provided software will not work on Win 7. Won't work via TCP/IP and LPR. Won't work via TCP/IP and RAW.

Other Thoughts: Anyone who has gotten this to work with Win 7 64 bit care to share exactly how they did that?

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: works as a print server using Windows 7 64bit

Cons: setup was a bit of a pain and like the previous reviews say to give it a static IP they are right. For those who aren't very familiar with networking make sure your router is set to give it a static IP as well, not just the print server set to be static.

Other Thoughts: Also it doesn't work as a scanner server for those who have all in one printers

2 out of 5 eggsehhh okayyy

Pros: It's a print server that mostly works

Cons: Sometimes it's funky about things. Sometimes you have to unplug it in order to get it to accept print jobs. It's easier just to buy a printer with a network jack and hook it up to your network directly.

Other Thoughts: Just spend another 50$ and buy a new printer that you can plug into your network. It's easier and will be less hassle than dealing with this.
