Just Works Relentlessly
This review is from: StarTech.com USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet NIC Network Adapter - 10/100/1000 Mbps
Pros: I have two of these and both of them worked immediately out of the box and have transferred bits apparently faultlessly for many months. These adapters should be attached to a USB 3.0 bus. That said, I use one of these for a 100 Mbs connection, though it is capable of 1000 Mbs. I did that because I was not realizing good performance with a USB 2.0 connection and a 100 Mbs adapter. Transfer speeds did improve, and I am happy with a USB 3.0/Gigabit Ethernet adapter attached to a USB 3.0 port on a Fast Ethernet (100 Mbs) connection.
Other Thoughts: Be careful when ordering this device; there are actually two offerings -- one with a dongle and one w/o. A dongle is a short USB cable that will extend from the computer's USB port to this adapter. You need a dongle if your computer has many USB connections and consequently there is not much room in the rear of the computer. On the other hand, if your computer has a free USB 3.0 port with plenty of room around it, you do not need a dongle. If the small extra cost of the dongle is not too important to you, buy it; better safe than sorry.
