This review is from: StarTech ST2000SPEXI Dual Port PCI Express (PCIe x4) Gigabit Ethernet Server Adapter Network Card 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express 2 x RJ45
Pros: inexpensive "server grade" network adapter. Chipset is intel based and with my experience, intel's seem to be a bit more reliable (specially around visualization)
Come with small bracket incase you need it
Server 2012 r2 compliant!
Cons: I think having this with a PCIe x4 bus is a complete waste and it will limit your options (most boards offer pcie x1 or x16)
If you were to achieve max throughput (duplex) for each NIC & if you even bonded them (Nic Teaming), the max bandwidth needed is 4Gbps. A pcie 2.0 x1 (a good standard now) supports 5Gbps. So a PCIe 2.0 x4 is 20Gbps! So unless you have a quad card (which they make), your wasting alot of bandwidth potential.
Also not to mention that unless you have a really good board that perhaps offers a dedicated x4 slot, your going to kill off an x16 slow which could be used for some really high end stuff (Fiber HBA, Raid controller)
Other Thoughts: This is meant for more server like functions, so i wouldn't waste your money on this if your trying to add dual nic teaming on your Windows 8 box. They make MUCH cheaper solutions that work great.
The con is geared more toward performance freaks (like me) that love to squeak out as much speed as i can from my system. Luckily my board had a x4 slot or I would have honestly paid a little more for a x1 slot card to save me from burning up a x16 slot.
I have this connected into a box running Server 2012 r2 essentials and on a network connecting to a Cisco sg200-18 switch with LACP working great. (very easy to setup with the OS on both server and switch)
