This unit DOES support WPA2
- Pros: This unit supports various of authentication methods for wireless, which includes WPA2, WPA, WEP, Radius, etc... The previous comment about the lack of the support for WPA2 is absolutely not true. All you have to do is upgrade the IOS to the latest version, 12.4, to get support.
I bought this unit two years ago and configured it with SPI, VPN, bogon ACL, anti-spoofing, anti-tempting (no service password-recovery) with the device, and other spanning-tree features. It's been running rock solid since then.
Do yourself a favor and get rid of the SDM junk. I don't know why Cisco would even bother to push for the buggy SDM application.
- Cons: Cons? Nah...
- Other Thoughts: Buy this device only if you know what you are doing with Cisco CLI. Do not ever use SDM to configure or monitor this device, else you might regret it later (when the config becomes unmanageable).
don't read the 1 star review
- Pros: Great item - if you know what your doing and can work in the Cisco command line interface of the IOS.
Rock solid reliability, great VPN tunnel, lots of co-current connections with bogging down.
- Cons: Don't buy it if you don't know what your doing with the cisco CLI.... the graphic interface isn't it's strong point.
Good, not great
- Pros: First off, you must know what you're doing to configure this...
Solid product which never crashes. Cisco IOS has more features than you could ever ask for. Wireless never goes down or drops, and that is with only one antenna connected.
- Cons: Cisco has not released an update to support WPA2 encryption, and they probably will not. The wireless is setup as an access point attached to the router, so it's a layer 3 interface, not layer 2. Makes for some awkward configurations, and the wireless gui is completely separate from sdm. SDM itself is not intuitive at all if you wanted to play around with features you are not familiar with. Stick with the command line. Also, I enabled the IOS firewall through the CLI, and it greatly slowed my broadband connection.
- Other Thoughts: Was very disappointed at the performance of the IOS firewall.
