4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works very well for what I'm doing.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: These can be configured to run in a "standalone" mode (aka autonomous mode, as the review before mine mentions), they're really meant to be used with a Cisco Wireless LAN controller.

A lot of the bad reviews I've read (here and on other sites) are because people bought these and didn't know what they were buying. If you're just looking for one access point to cover a room (and want something simple to set up), this is probably not what you want. Without at least some basic networking knowledge/experience, you're going to have a bad time.

5 out of 5 eggsrock solid

Pros: For all you misinformed, this is an LAP, BUT it can be converted back to AP mode.

Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:

Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between and
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Set the timeout value on the TFTP server to 30 seconds.
Step 4 On the PC where the TFTP server is located, perform these steps:
a. Disable any software firewall products, such as Windows firewall, ZoneAlarm firewall, McAffee firewall, or others.
b. Ensure all Windows files are visible. From Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options > View; then uncheck the Hide extensions for known file typescheck box.
Step 5 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point, and c1250-k9w7-tar.default for a 1250 series access point.
Step 6 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 7 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 8 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 9 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 10 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 11 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

Cons: this is cisco, rock solid

5 out of 5 eggsResponse to the negative review

Pros: This is an ENTERPRISE grade AP and NOT for the inexperienced home user. There is clearly an insert to show the administrator to download guides and other instructions.

Cons: Not for the inexperienced or incompetent.

Other Thoughts: Learn before you buy or don't buy it. Don't bash a product because you don't know how to use it. This is a fine product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: These lightweight access points work great. We have around 25 of these installed with our Cisco Wireless LAN Controller and have absolutely no complaints.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: To the previous post, these units are powered off of an Ethernet port using Power over Ethernet (PoE). Also, you must have a controller to manage these units. This is why this model is a lightweight access point (LAP). If you do not have a controller, you must use a standalone access point. Hope this helps.

1 out of 5 eggsNo power cord, no install guide/instruction book

Pros: Nothing yet, as there's no installation instructions or power cord.

Cons: The unit was shipped with nothing more than the unit itself and a few rack brackets and screws. I can't turn it on without a power cord and even if I could, I have to find out how to install it still.
