5 out of 5 eggsABC - Always Buy Cisco

Pros: Cisco, IOS, PoE Option

Cons: Only 1 Gig-e, LAN ports are not Gig-e

Other Thoughts: These are great routers and a fantastic addition to the 800 Series line. Beefer than the 871, with plenty of power to spare. Great for SOHO end points, and VPN clients. I am CCNP, so config was easy, and familiar. Even the built in modem port is handy.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable and Versatile

Pros: Runs Cisco IOS, nearly infinitely configurable, very reliable

Cons: some units have a case rattle, no PoE, still 100 Mbps for switch ports, steep learning curve if you leave the GUI

Other Thoughts: We have dozens of these units in the field and they're awesome, specifically for smaller remote offices with multiple VLANs and redundant internet connections. Very flexible VPNs, etc. Can't recommend these enough.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Usually works

Cons: This is the 3rd unit in a year.
1st was DOA.
2nd failed with a memory error after 2 months.
It has required a hard reset & reload to start working again several times in the last 9 months.

Other Thoughts: We keep falling back on the original Netgear it whenever the Cisco fails, so I can get in & reload the Cisco. The Netgear worked without fail, but the owner wanted Cisco
One of the most expensive routers I've used, and one of the worst.
