5 out of 5 eggsFor the price...not bad

Pros: Inexpensive and easy set up. Great coverage from a central upstairs location.

Cons: For the price, it is hard to complain about anything. The router sent has lasted over a year to date.

Other Thoughts: I added this into a relative of mine's network. They have a large house with pc's in 4 rooms and a wireless printer. The router is located upstairs in a central room. It provides laptop coverage through the house and garage. This router is not N capable, so this router will not be a good choice if you need that feature.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Value, but also an excellent router

Pros: It works great, I ran my xbox, desktop, and other computers through it all at the same time in my apartment. My roommate and I even played xbox on the same connection at the same time and had very little trouble. This is a great price and it works great.

Cons: Set up is confusing. I have used two of these, setting one up during my networking internship and then buying another for my apartment. The only time I had connection problems was when my roommate decided to download several HUGE files at the same time, which didn't kill the connection, but often slowed it down noticeably.

Other Thoughts: I lived in a relatively large steel-frame apartment building with 3 floors and I had access to the connection from nearly anywhere in the building, even limited distance outside. This is a GREAT price and there's definitely a good reason it's currently the highest-rated router on newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsI've stopped buying netgear products

Pros: easy setup worked great for a year

Cons: I received confirmation from support that it had a hardware issue. It had to be constantly rebooted. They wouldn't do anything to fix the issue, it was just out of warranty.

I no longer purchase netgear products because I got the feeling from support that they really didn't care that I'd been a long term customer. I had also recommended their products to countless others ( friends, family, co-workers). Since I'm a software engineer I help many people with setting up networks or just basic computer troubleshooting.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, then seeing some weird problems after several years

Pros: It was working great without any issues. I love the feature allowing to set a list of MAC address of the wireless devices which will allow the access (I guess this is the MAC filtering which may be pretty common). It has other security features, but MAC filtering was good enough and I didn't have to use other security setting. IP forwarding feature is great. Firmware updates had been provided often enough. Provided fairly good distance and signal strength.

Cons: After several years of using it, I started noticing a problem. My connected computers (both by wire and wireless) seem to have trouble resolving the addresses as if DNS server is having problems. I try to connect to yahoo mail and some other sites, and often times, I get site not found, then after a few retries site is finally found. Once found, then it continues to find OK until leave it unused for few hours then come back to use the computer again. It's weird that I don't see this problem when connecting via VPN which changes network setting to use Intranet address. I tried directly connecting my computer to the cable modem and it works fine. I maybe wrong, but it seems to be the router problem.

One other annoying thing was that every config I change in a panel, I have to apply change and the router has to restart.. so if I have to go change config in 5 different sections, that's 5 restart! Though this is something that you don't do often, so not a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: Not sure why, but since about 6 months or so ago, I started seeing the problem mentioned above. But other than that, it's a great router! I want to get a new router just because of this problem I've mentioned and the same Netgear router is tempted except that I am afraid this problem might come back again...

4 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: Cost! It less expensive here on New Egg but I bought it at Wal Mart because Needed it right away. Pretty easy to set up but I am new to wireless and there is a sharp learning curve on your first router set up. This is a simple router [which is what I wanted] Its only wireless G and the speed on both our laptops is 48mbs which is fine for what I need. No drop offs so far!

Cons: I did need some help connecting to the laptops [this is my first time] and I did use netgears tech help to do so. My Mom's laptop is running Vista and I really" messed" [edited at new eggs request] it up but net gear came through

Other Thoughts: My brother in law is a computer program writer, software developer and my good friend has a phd in mathmatics and does very high tech stuff for the Navy and they both said to get a netgear if all I want is a simple wireless connection with few problems. They both use high-buck complicated stuff for what they do.

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't last long

Pros: I bought this in March. It was a wonderful piece of machinery. Was great and reliable and never let me down. Never recall it suffering from any interference, from any dropped packet issues, from any disconnections, just about nothing went wrong for five straight months..

Cons: ..And then it just died.

Without any warning or indication of anything being amiss, it just completely crapped out on me just short of five months to the day. Dead. Irreparably dead.

Other Thoughts: I'd be fine with an RMA on most products, but after contacting Netgear, my options are basically: Pay $10 to ship it and then wait a couple weeks to receive a new one (Really not a viable option with my situation) or pay the same price that I paid for the router in the first place to have a new one out to me in a day, in addition to the $10 more I'd pay for shipping. This thing is going in the garbage can.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years and counting

Pros: Reliable, easy to set up, contains more than enough configuration options for the average user.

Cons: Does not contain enough options for advanced use.

Other Thoughts: This router contains options like IP assignment, a MAC filter, and other basic options you expect out of an entry-level wireless router. It does not contain an overwhelming number of features, but it gets the job done for average household networks.

I bought this router to replace a Linksys WRT54G that did not survive a cross-country move. I've had it for over 2 years and have never had any issues with it. It even handles my PlayStation 3 traffic well.

2 out of 5 eggsCheap price, mediocre results

Pros: Easy to set up.
Nice design (overall).
The firmware, although dated, is easy enough to navigate.
Relatively inexpensive.

Cons: Changing a setting results in the router going into a restart/lala phase, which can take upwards of 20-30 seconds.

No support for DDWRT.

I have to reboot the router at least twice a week due to connection drops. The router could work great for one day, and then the next day it decides to not work.

Poor reception. In my split level home, the desktop pcs downstairs receive very poor signal. When I moved one of the desktops a few feet away from the router upstairs, it still had bad signal. Pathetic.

As of lately, I've had many, upon many, disconnects - and this is from a desktop that is connected with a cable. I do not believe that the cause is from a specific program, as I've had difficulty with several different applications - primarily online games. I have no problems with lots of web browsing or with downloading from Steam, for example. I believe the router simply times out/overloads, and then it restarts.

Other Thoughts: After using this router for over a year, I have had quite a rocky road with it. I dislike it overall, because it means a lot more work for me. I like products that I can set up, and not have to constantly fiddle with them. I wouldn't suggest buying this router in particular.
