5 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch

Pros: This switch has preformed amazing in my small network.
the Management of the switch is easy to understand and employ.

Cons: None That i can think of.

Other Thoughts: Connecting to a Serial (rs-232) port on a server Motherboard, after first Setup, Would shut-down the system when serial was connected to both devices. Not sure if this is due to bad wiring or a Faulty cable.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well - two years on

Pros: I installed two of these units in a nonprofit org that I help out.
They are still working fine - no issues whatsoever in two years on unattended service.

I have the same issue as another reviewer - the Java manglement app chokes on even moderate system loading. However, I AM able to use it via the serial port w/o problems.

I would say this is an excellent low cost switch suitable for a workgroup or medium sized office.

It is completely silent, btw,

The management features are simple-minded but OK for 90% of situations you should encounter.

Cons: If it wasn't for the Java access issue I would give it a strong 5 stars.

4 out of 5 eggsGood device, no problems yet.

Pros: Good device, easy setup. Have been running it for about a month now with no problems. We were having problems with a unmanaged switch being overwhelmed on our network. We put this switch in and it got rid of that issue. Would recommend.

Cons: Have not found any so far.

4 out of 5 eggsA solid network switch

Pros: 24 ports 10/100,
2 ports GigE (1000),
Three ways to manage: Telnet, Web, or Serial Port,
Rack Mountable,
VLAN support,
SNMP support,
great tech support!

Cons: Web Interface has a Java applet to indicate activity lights. (Rest of web interface is standard HTML.)

-see "other thoughts" for more criticism-

Other Thoughts: The company that I work for has over a dozen of these deployed in the field. The switch itself seems very reliable. It never stops switching packets and has a myriad of configuration options. --- The problem that I've run into is that occasionally the "managed" aspect of this Managed Switch fails. The web port, the Telnet port, and the Serial port just stop responding. The switch keeps moving data around the network, but it's management services just disappear. In 2 out of the 3 cases, pushing the reset button on the front of the switch would reboot the switch and the management services would start operating again. In 1 of the 3 cases, no amount of poking and prodding would get the management services to work again. Even calling tech support, etc. The good news is that tech support agreed to replace the faulty switch without any resistance. I've only seen this happen once to each of the three switches. The other 9+ switches fine. The Netgear FSM726 is a fine switch for the money.
