4 out of 5 eggsGreat switch. But loud for desktop use. (Is NOT "fanless")

Pros: Reliable, excellent throughput

Cons: The loudest thing in my home office

Other Thoughts: In case the other reviews didn't spell it out ... this unit DOES have a fan, and you WILL hear it (especially once your other devices are powered down). Not recommended for a home office where your room has other intended uses (guest room or whatever). Perfectly fine for a rack or dedicated server space.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Performer

Pros: Inexpensive, basic switch. Have 3 of these in my office network running 24/7. Never a problem with them.

Cons: None. It's a basic switch. No management issues to deal with.

4 out of 5 eggsGood value for a plain switch

Pros: - reliable - have never had an issues with it
- looks good, if that matters to you

Cons: - fans are a bit loud but probably better than most competing switches
- unmanaged, so you can't configured VLANs
- no POE, if that matters to you

Other Thoughts: Overall a good buy that I am very happy with.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Product!

Pros: ~ Great Quality - 0% down time in 1 year's time.
~ Great speed - I've gotten up to 150mbps 'real' transfer speed
~ Quiet!
~ Cool
~ Just sits there works!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have absolutely no issues with this product.
I unpacked a bit over a year ago, filled all ports, and never gave it second thought since. I would Highly recommend this product!

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do - I've been using it constantly for just about 2 years now with few problems. Tested successfully with active-backup and adaptive load balancing link aggregation (neither require special switch support.)

Cons: It has locked up on me a few times, but always when doing something "weird" (changing aggregation mode, removing/adding slaves, etc.) A quick power cycle has always fixed it - probably to flush the MAC table or something.

Other Thoughts: If it were self-aware, it could have intercepted and re-written this review for its own benefit, and you'd never know it...

1 out of 5 eggsWhy I didnt buy it

Pros: Good Price

Cons: Sounds sad, but for a rack mount, the ports are not laid out well, and the less than 19" width makes this look dumb on a rack

5 out of 5 eggsNice Unit

Pros: Measured fan noise to be 40dBA (very quiet) at 1 meter, can not hear it over server, not to mention our refrigerator & other appliances we have in our break room (mounted on our telephone board alongside our dsl modem and telephone & network patch panels). I have to turn everything else off to hear this unit. Since our building doesn't have HVAC on weekends during Spring & Fall, we needed a unit with a fan. Without forced ventilation, unit would probably shut down on these weekends. Some people just have to complain about everything.

Cons: None so far. Why is that guy griping about having to replace after one year, it has a lifetime warranty!

Other Thoughts: If you are using this for business and can't be assured of 24/7 HVAC (whether or not you have a dedicated server room or closet), you had best get the model with the fan, else you will almost certainly have overheating issues. BTW, this is a bnusiness class unit, not intended for the master bedroom at home.

1 out of 5 eggsquite bad choice

Pros: - worked for one year and a week.
- stimulates economy as you'll have to buy another each year.
- able to provide Gigabit speeds.

Cons: Outlook will not work on any machine, attached to this switch, MrxSrb errors will occur in event log. Resolution is to use other switch or downgrade speed from driver. ATT DSL Router will not be able to provide DHCP to clients through this switch. Major problem with frame size etc. Died a week after the year warranty.

Other Thoughts: I guess I got what I paid for... Don't buy this if reliability needed and if you don't have some old switch to rely on.
The 8Gbit Netgear is a perfect option - 2 of those will do much better

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Works well normally handles traffic well normally

Cons: Has locked up 3 times over the past 5 months and has had to be power cycled. If this happens at least 2 more times im going to replace with an hp switch.
