3 out of 5 eggsOK, but limited VLAN support

Pros: if you need a solid build wireless AP with PoE and only IEEE 802.11a/b/g support, then WAG102 can be a good option.

Cons: Unfortunately WAG102 has a serious limitation in VLAN support.
Only IEEE 802.11a/b/g support.
See Other Thoughts.

Other Thoughts: If your network use untagged default VLAN packets and you activate the VLAN on the AP, you will end-up with no IP connectivity (wired or wireless) on the default VLAN.
This means that you will lose connectivity with the management address also.
After doing some troubleshooting I realized that for this particular AP, all VLANs must be tagged, including the default VLAN.
I had to use two APs; one for Default VLAN and another for other VLANs.

5 out of 5 eggsGood WAP

Pros: I bought 3 other wireless WAP's before I bought this one because my wireless WAP was always having to be reset. I think this was because I had about 7 other Wireless devices in my area. Bought this WAP and I've never had to reboot it, it just always works.

Cons: Expensive

Other Thoughts: It's worth the money to me to have a good product.

2 out of 5 eggsProblems with iOS 6

Pros: Nice package, good user interface. Shipping as usual is superb from the Egg.

Cons: Would not work well with iOS6. Not Apple friendly. Even Netgear website NOW acknowledges there is an issue. Try something else if you need Apple connectivity.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Like most said, metal case. Seems rugged enough. Dual antennas are clearly labeled for the various frequencies. Dual antennas let you have two different networks (one on a, one on b/g). Easy enough to setup if you pay attention (you have to enable a radio and THEN go to a seperate page for security settings). Allows numerous security settnigs do you can keep a few on hand and enable the ones you want to use.

Cons: Didn't work properly. I just had this similar issue with a netgear wireless router... the SSIDs will show up, then they will drop. I was actually connected at one point, pinged my router non-stop and it kept dropping my wireless connection. I had this problem with TWO of these routers.

Other Thoughts: You need to be careful when buying NetGear products from NewEgg. I've never had issues with regular switches but once I bought 4 gigabit switches and had to send them all back for a known issue via NetGear. Then I just tried to register a PoE switch (8 port) and was told its older then 6 months as the manufacturers date... so im guessing that these are also older units with possible known defects. So as some say in other netgear posts, you have to be careful and be expected to send these back a few times to get them right. Im just going to buy another vendor until netgear/newegg get this sorted out. NewEgg WAS extremely helpfull and did refund me 100% for these so that was a bonus. But my clients still without wifi right now.

5 out of 5 eggsdont upgrade firmware

Pros: very stable can add external aerials to boost performance supports multiple ssid profiles both in 5ghz and 2.4ghz. works great with xp vista and windows 7*

Cons: none really.. see below

Other Thoughts: folks beware of the 2.16 firmware and windows 7 windows manager for certain usb adapters. it may lead you to believe that windows networking modules have gone corrupt. in my case i used a linksys wusb100 v2 upgraded the firmware on this wag102 to 2.16 and thats where the fun started had to reconfigure network after every boot or reboot. after 2 days i concluded the firmware was not compatible with windows 7 somehow. had to downgrade to 2.07 and all was well again..

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to setup/configure.

Cons: none really...

Other Thoughts: we have these running in our multiple field offices. They are a snap to configure and are quite secure. They work great with our existing MPLS network.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great.

Pros: Very flexible configuration.

Used a pair of these to form a wireless bridge. Location had interference on the 802.11g spectrum, configured the bridge to use only the 802.11a spectrum.

Metal case feels good.

Nice touch seeing the default ip address, user name, and password printed on the bottom of the unit.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Installation is only using 802.11a, so 802.11g was not tested.

Authentication and encryption were both turned off. (OpenVPN was used to secure the connection.)
