NETGEAR GS724T 10/100/1000Mbps ProSafe Gigabit Smart Switch 24 x RJ-45 connectors for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T (Auto Uplink on all ports)
2 x SFP slots for fiber Gigabit Ethernet modules 8000 MAC Address Table 256KB Buffer Mem - Retail
Tech Level: average - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: The switch worked great once we assigned it a specific IP address. Did not work with just connnecting it to the router. The lights would cycle through without a specific IP address being dedicated. This is a techie as it went. Which is not very techie by the way. Very good switch and the communication through put is outstanding. Please plug it into a surge protector to avoide spikes that may freeze it up, but this is standard when using a switch. Great function at a great price. Buy before 12/31/09 and get a free video camera through netgear. Kinda of a bonus. New Egg of course was great on delivery.
Cons: None really, just make sure you assign a specific IP address. Because there are so many environment configurations this can be deployed in, the instructions only take it so far, but support is out on the Netgear website if you need it.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Fast, solid, stable, and quick to setup and deploy.
Cons: A quickstart guide would have been handy to tell me what the default IP and passwords were. Aside from that, no complaints!
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for VLANs and Jumbo Frames, this is a good switch with SFP options for production use.

Good value

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: This switch is a great value. The VLAN features are powerful, flexible and easy to setup. QoS and STP work. Decent throughput and solid construction.
Cons: More like a layer 1.99 switch. Very inflexible MAC-address level blocking and it can't report MAC-address/port bindings at all. Port auto-negotiation can be flacky.
Other Thoughts: Even though it has some limitations it costs much less that the competition. I'd recommend unless you need more advanced features (in which case get the Netgear GS724TR instead.)
