4 out of 5 eggsGood Firewall

Pros: This is a great router for a small office environmet.
Performance is outstanding.
It is extremely configurable.
Easy to setup and manage.
VPN works well and is easy to set up.

Cons: The only big con that I have seen is that the two that were originally purchased 3+ years ago have both failed with power supply problems.

Other Thoughts: I am unsure as to what "gandor" is talking about for the price this is a good router.

The one that was in my office had 4 IPSEC tunnels attached 24/7 for monitoring client sites. As was mentioned by another user all were fast.

5 out of 5 eggsFVX-538

Pros: Excellent performance for the price. High throughput and multiple IPSEC tunnels. I've deployed three with no issues. Make sure the firmware is current.

Cons: Early firmware was buggy, but I have been really pleased with the latest firmware.

Other Thoughts: Config is not too bad if you ware familiar with IPSEC.

1 out of 5 eggsAn Also Ran Router

Pros: Given the price this is the worst router I ever have tested, so, there is no "Pro"

Cons: Amongst many other things, a mediocre GUI, a possibility to set time and date manually is glaringly absent, and numerous other software flaws. When compared for example to the somewhat dated Linksys RV016, or RV082, the latter are still a much better choice for a home network.

Other Thoughts: If you need a very good router/firewall solution with a LOT of flexibility, buy a Mini ITX board from the Egg such as JetWay JNC92-330-LF INTEL Atom 330 Dual Core CPU, add a Jetway signature 3 x Gigabyte NIC add-on card, add a small solid state drive, 32G is OK, put it in a small ITX case, and load FREE "Untangle" Router/Firewall/UTM software, and voila you have for under 400 dollar a router that does everything that a three thousand plus dollar commercial UTM does, and it does it better, and faster.
You can find Untangles website by goooogling it up.

4 out of 5 eggsAnother good Netgear ProSafe product

Pros: It does its job well. Has a wonderful user interface, is feature rich, and easy to configure (like most netgear products). No complaints here.

Cons: Does not double as a flotation device

5 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality Firewall

Pros: Out performs the Netgear FVS318 in every aspect.

- higher WAN to LAN speed
- gigabit port
- dual WAN ports

I would recommend this firewall router to anyone who would use it in a home/home office environment. Good protection at a lower cost than some of the other manufacturers.

Cons: Takes up a bit of space unless you mount it in a rack mount unit. Not worth a broken egg.

Other than that, no cons at all.

Other Thoughts: If I had to replaceany of my networking equipment, I would choose Netgear for everything because I have never had any problems with any of my Netgear products other than the FVS318. I went through 3 of those and every one of them either kept locking up on me or died altogether.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat small office Router

Pros: This is a great Router, works all the time. Never have any problems with them. The VPN is simple to set up and never drops. We use the client to gateway setting and have found the five licenses that are included very useful.

Cons: There was a version of Firmware that had an issue but it appears the most recent is working great.

Other Thoughts: Once again, Newegg amazed me with their shipping. I ordered it with 3-day guarantee and received it the following day. I did pay for rush processing but still didn't expect it so soon. This really impressed my bosses and we will now be using Newegg for all future purchases.

5 out of 5 eggsAn outstanding firewall/router

Pros: I've owned this product for over 2 years and never reviewed it here until now. This is an outstanding firewall/router...The first models (the v1s, not made anymore) had too little memory and performed pretty poorly. It really damaged the reputation of this router (along the somewhat initially poor software) The (v2s) got double the memory Netgear kept making major improvements to the firmware until it became a killer firewall/router. Rock solid, never a glitch, 24/7 going on 2 years now. It's still held it's value...about the price I paid for it over 2 years ago.

Cons: I suspect this product may be close to end of life (I think it been out there for 4 years now)...there hasn't been a firmware upgrade since September of this year...though there may be nothing left to fix...I have not noticed any bugs at all with this latest version. And despite the fact it has been on the market that long...it's still a rock solid performer loaded with features. A truly professional product.

Other Thoughts: If you want a truly professional grade router/firewall for the long haul, this is the one to get...sturdy, 24/7, painless operation with a load of features. I haven't seen anything else come close, even at this price, since it's release.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: This thing works as advertised. I don't use the Dual Wan ports but I use alot of tunnels. I also have the QOS setup and it works great.

Cons: Earlier firmware had a lot of issues. Upgrade to the latest asap.

Other Thoughts: For a small business or home office, this is a very solid router. The only bug I have encountered lately is a DHCP reservation bug where it will assign the same IP to a new device added on the network when another device is not currently on the network

1 out of 5 eggsRoasted by Newegg

Pros: The product is great but the Newegg service not so much.

Cons: Bottom line is that I am shipping the product back when it finally arrives. I purchased the item "in stock" on Friday the 7th under the promise from Newegg it would arrive in 3 days via UPS 3-day delivery. I needed this thing no later than Tomorrow morning. Well. Alas. I called Newegg NUMEROUS times trying to find why they were not sending it etc and every day they literally blamed the warehouse guys for being slow while at the same time doing nothing to speed up the process. Well, no less than 6 days after the original order, they finally assign a UPS tracking number which of course is simply an arrival scan. UPS reports the product will not arrive until the 17th. Now I ask you- an original order on the 7th, to arrive in 3 days- which considering the weekend- should have been absolutely no later than tomorrow. Well, looks like I get the privilege of waiting until the middle of next week. If this was an isolated case with Newegg I might be able to overlook the problem...

Other Thoughts: However, EVERY one of the 4 orders I;ve palced with them on "instock" items over the last year has taken from as little as 10 days to as many as 23 days. Not one time did customer service solve the issue. They all claimed they can only send the warehouse e-mail and are at the mercy of them responding... Roasted AGAIN by Newegg. I am so upset I will be promptly be returning the item for a full refund AND creport the incident to my CC as fraud if it doesn't show up by the 17th. What's more, the website is so slow it reminds me of dial-up access from the 90's. I think i'd like to be able to run a business that can continually dump on customers while holding their money hostage.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product for the money

Pros: Dual WAN ports for fail-over or load distribution. Very configurable firewall. Great performance. No apparent VPN or user count limitations.

Cons: With older firmware, the VPN's don't always re-connect. Many other flakey issues. Upgrade the firmware to the latest version first, and you should be good to go.

Other Thoughts: Dual WAN ports for a device under $400 is amazing. I'm using Cable and DSL for the 2 WAN connections to keep a company online if one goes down. VPN connections to multiple devices from different manufacturers. This is a great deal. I'm suggesting this to most of my clients.
