1 out of 5 eggsNetgear=Never Again

Pros: I had absolutely no problems with it during the first four months. It's a great little device but...

Cons: After a bad firmware upgrade, the device resets every couple of hours now. This is not a good thing for someone who plays MMO's, StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm. When I called customer service they said that since it's not a hard wear issue that I need an extended warranty which costs an extra $129.00 for 1 year or $199.00 for an extra 2 years. That kind of stupidity is the quickest way to lose customers. All I did was upgrade to the firmware that THEY released and recommended me to download. Since Netgear can't bother to be responsible for their mistakes then I can't be bothered to continue spending my money on Netgear products.

Other Thoughts: In the end, the old saying is true, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

1 out of 5 eggsAwful router

Pros: Decent amount of advanced settings , good looking unit, good price, doesn't completely lose connection too often

Cons: Inconsistent speed is all over the place and hardly close to maximum of what I'm paying for. Even in the same room as the router is usually about 5 to 10 mbps. (Paying for 30). I've tried optimizing settings and channel, with no improvement.

Other Thoughts: First and last time I'm buying netgear.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money

Pros: Cheap. Easy setup. Stable wifi and WAN connection when it works.

Cons: Netgear customer service is terrible. The router was working pretty well for a few days. Suddenly it loses internet connection. Although devices can still connect to the WIFI, the router is unable to negotiate connection with the ISP. Unfortunately at this point it was outside the return period so I had to call Netgear customer support. Even though I have experience trouble shooting networking issues, the Netgear rep wanted me to go through the same process before issuing me a RMA, wasting more than an hour of my time. Even by that point he wasn't finished; there were more hoops for me to jump through. I just gave up by this point, there were too many hoops to jump through. That's probably their strategy to minimize the number of RMA's they have to issue. Most other companies will just believe you when you say you did the troubleshooting steps and confirm the product is defective and just issue a RMA. I just wasted my money on this junk. Never buying Netgear again. There are plenty of other choices out there, equal or better than this crapware.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Henry,

Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with any case numbers you have or the serial number of your WNR2000. They will be happy to resolve any issue that hey can. You also may have a lifetime warranty attached to it:

2 out of 5 eggsNot the product shown

Pros: Works OK so far. Cheap.

Cons: New design, but no change in product number. No port activity lights. Wireless defaults to 150Mbps.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this product online because past reviews indicated that it had performed reliably for the most part. However, Netgear, has changed specs in the middle of the product run. Version 5 does not look like any of the online pictures. The design of the case has changed, and the product lacks activity lights for both the wired ports and the wireless function. The firmware upgraded to v 1.0.0.28 after install. So the buyer is left to conclude that this is a redesigned product with the same product number as the previous line.

Hard to say whether this is good or bad, but I don't think you can assume that the previous reviews represent this product.

Note that wireless communicate defaults to "up to 150Mbps" and has to be set manually to "up to 300Mbs" in the advanced setup function. There are some warnings on the setup screen about the product falling back to the lower speed, but this is not described in the distributed documentation.

So the two stars is for the unknown reliability of the product, removal of activity indicators, and Netgear's deceptive labeling practices.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Paul,

We are very sorry for the frustrations and would like to clear up any other questions you may have. When you get a moment please email us with a copy and paste of your review and the serial number of your WNR2000.

We appreciate any feedback and hope we can help!

2 out of 5 eggsDied unexpectedly

Pros: The unit worked great for a few months. When it was functional, it had few issues -- but I was using it in a very un-demanding environment (only a few devices in a small apartment), so I didn't expect much

Cons: The unit unexpectedly died after a few months of use. It's completely useless now. I seem to be having the same issues some of the other reviewers are having -- the power light remains amber, there's no wireless signal, and I can't even log in to the unit's control panel. Netgear has agreed to replace the unit but they're making me pay the cost of shipping, which ended up being over half the price of the unit!

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Louis,

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns regarding your new unit. We apologize for the inconvenience.

1 out of 5 eggsAwesome until it died.

Pros: -worked awesome until one day it randomly didn't.
-looks cool

Cons: I had the same problem as a previous reviewer who summed it up nicely:
"-Power Light Stays Amber nothing else happens.
-The Netgear genie does not recognize the device, and says it is not supported
-The reset to factory settings did not work
-Unable to connect to the device to try to update the firmware.
-Manually connecting to the router is impossible (192.168.1.1)"

- This device conveniently stops working after your warranty is up.
-Customer support is horrible.

Other Thoughts: I've gone through all the trouble shooting online and have failed to make my device work. Calling customer support is a joke and is by FAR the worst customer support I've ever dealt with. I have a lifetime warranty on this device if it's a hardware problem. BUT the technical support only lasts 90 days. So if there's a problem after 90 days, YOU HAVE TO PAY TO TROUBLE SHOOT to see if it IS a hardware problem. This is ridiculous. Do not buy from netgear.

Manufacturer Response:

You may have a lifetime warranty attached to your WNR2000-- please check the link for details.

2 out of 5 eggsAwesome until it died.

Pros: Worked great for 7 months

Cons: Died suddenly
Amber light stays on steady
Cannot connect to download new firmware
Netgear Genie does not connect to it
Tried to factory reset, nothing happens

Other Thoughts: This is the first router I ever bought and I'm pretty sure it should last more than 7 months....

1 out of 5 eggsWork well until it died after less than 9 months

Pros: Work very well until it suddenly stopped.
Wifi activated or stopped with a button is a nice feature.
Easy to setup.

Cons: My speed was half what it was supposed to be, so I reset it with the on / off switch and it never worked again.
-Power Light Stays Amber nothing else happens.
-The Netgear genie does not recognize the device, and says it is not supported
-The reset to factory settings did not work
-Unable to connect to the device to try to update the firmware.
-Manually connecting to the router is impossible (192.168.1.1)

Other Thoughts: I bought this router since it had some good review and a lifetime warranty, thinking it will last many years.
Netgear products are supposed to be good, in my case it was my first experience with this brand and possibly the last.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Sebas,

We are very sorry that your WNR2000 has stopped working after only 9 months-- please email us right away so that we can get you a replacement. You can email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review and the serial number of your unit for assistance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat While it Lasted

Pros: -Easy to navigate features
-Lasted a long time
-No trouble handling 6+ connections
-Looks nice

Cons: -Could use a better stand

Other Thoughts: This router finally gave up on me. I bought it back in 2009 and had to have it replaced this year. I figure a 5-6 year life span is plenty long for a router.

Product is easy to use and the interface is simple to navigate.
