Create a wireless-N network in your home or office securely with the NETGEAR WNR2000 router.
This secure wireless router features a double firewall for the utmost security. Your files and PCs are hidden from outside users thanks to Network Address Translation technology. The Stateful packet inspection firewall also denies outside requests for information. The router also features an Exposed host (DMZ) for gaming securely.
You'll also appreciate the excellent performance as the router offers exceptional range and speed. The router is easy to setup and automatically downloads updates to keep you protected with the latest securities. Getting on the Internet shouldn't be a scary event and with the NETGEAR WNR2000 router, it never will be.
Pros: Left a review back in December 2008 (when I got the unit) saying I was happy. I've had good luck with every Netgear I've ever owned for the past few years.
Cons: Got it in December 2008, began the process of death in March 2009. Now, middle of April 2009, it has died the good death. Started needing reboots about once a week after 3 months. The need for reboots has become increasing common - now it needs it every day if not more than once a day. I've decided to toss it.
Other Thoughts: It's a shame - Netgear used to be a great brand. I've noticed reviews of Netgear products going steadily downhill over the years and didn't think anything of it due to my (what I now realize) good luck. Now I've been lumped in with everybody else in realizing Netgear's quality has gone to shambles in recent time. I won't be buying Netgear again - not just because of this experience, but because of the increasingly-common negative reviews I've read about just about all of their products here at Newegg and other sites. Due to the reviews of Netgear's recent customer service quality I've also decided that it isn't worth the headache & heartache of working through the warranty process. So, it's going in the trash & I'll buy another brand.

Stable and Reliable

Pros: I could talk in high level networking jargon, but I am not going to. I believe this is one of the easiest and most reliable routers I have ever used. Configuration is a snap whether or not you are a beginner or an advanced user. I am well satisfied with the WNR2000. My previous experiences are that some routers are a little "hateful" if you will on setup, not this one.
Wireless range for this router is about average. I was expecting a little more. But I can not complain too much for a single level house. Wireless reception is great in every room.
Cons: I can only think of two cons at this moment. The first con is the plastic housing. I think the housing could be made stronger. Feels flimsy, but that says nothing about what is under the hood. Still is a great router. The second con is the range. For the price you would expect a little better range.
Other Thoughts: This is a top winner in my book on routers. I have delt with two other major brands and I would stack the NetGearWRN2000 against them. I highly recommend you try this router.

Pros: Router was fantastic and a solid performer until sometime within the last 5 firmware revisions.
Cons: For some reason, this router -- and reported other netgear routers -- don't seem to play nice with Steam. When you do a server refresh in any Steam game, the high number of servers the client tries to contact for a response time gets recorded in the router log as a DDOS attack. The result is that the router will not let you connect to any of those servers until you reset the router.
Other Thoughts: I'd like to note that I've attempted port forwarding, disabling the SPI firewall, and everything else short of beating this thing with a stick and nothing fixes the issue.
This occured sometime within the last 5 firmware revision updates. I wish I would have paid more attention to which one broke it. Too bad DD-WRT doesn't support the WNR2000.

good router with some useful features
Reviewed By: mk on 3/8/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: - troubleshooting software identifies where in network issues are arising so you're saved some troubleshooting steps in the process of getting the network back up - openDNS integration allows filtering of network traffic based on categories such as social networks, adware sites, adult content, "time wasters", etc. - guest network functionality - wifi protected setup - bandwidth monitoring and restriction options - mac address filtering automatically detects devices connected to network and fills in their mac addresses when you select them - stateful packet inspection firewall - DHCP server allows static IP address assignment to specific devices on the network - secured or open NAT filtering
Cons: - no option for restarting router in firmware - port triggering rarely if ever works
Other Thoughts: This router puts out a strong and steady signal. Full bars no matter where I go in my house and in the two months that I've owned it there has not been a single instance of dropped signal or dropped internet access. The new features (Genie and OpenDNS integration) are very helpful/useful. The GUI is a lot more responsive than it was on my old Rangemax. Overall I would say this is a great router for advanced users that need it for home or small business use.

I Tried and Tried...

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Easy setup whether using the CD or the web based versions....less than 5 minutes to set up. When it does work, it's pretty good....but that isn't for very long.
Cons: It flat out doesn't work on a consistent basis. NO, I'm not an IT Professional, but I know my way around quite well when it comes to tech stuff. You shouldn't have to reset a router 3-4 times A DAY or install Tomato or Peach or WW- Whatever....it should work out of the box!
Other Thoughts: I had a D-Link DI-624 G wireless router that was a ROCK for 5+ years...if I reset the thing a half a dozen times in that period of ownership, that was a lot. I never turned it off or did anything special to it until it died a quick death. I bought this router on a recommendation of a tech guy. Got it home, out of the box, VERY quick and easy setup...lights blinking...ready to go. It connected well to desktop, 3 laptops, and an XBox 360...That's where it started to have problems! Now I don't know from buying a router and installing Tomato or some other operating system, this thing SHOULD work out of the box and I too was so confused by all the reviews here by the 'I'm an IT professional and...." It should work OUT OF THE BOX! This thing drops the signal constantly...or it goes from 148Mps to 27Mps to 103Mps to 130Mps to 50Mps to none (reset) to 130Mps to 103Mps to 30Mps to none (reset)...and so on. Back to the store it went and got another one....same exact thing. Maybe we were spoiled.
