Good and Then Bad
- Pros: Easy to set up and simply worked great.
- Cons: It died about 3 months after getting it.
Great Value
- Pros: Netgear is very easy to set up and works beautifully with 32 and 64bit versions of Mac and Windows. I was able to get this refurbished from Newegg, so the deal was phenomenal.
- Cons: The giant flashing blue button's uselessness is only exceeded by its obnoxiousness, but you can turn it off very easily.
- Other Thoughts: Great value, great brand, great router. If you get this router, you will want a dual-band wireless adapter to take full advantage of the 5 GHz radio spectrum. But it will still work with all regular a/b/g/n adapters.... that's right, this router can even work with old school 802.11a.
This is a great option (when combined with a dual band wifi adapter) to use in an apartment complex with lots of other wireless networks set up. All of those other wifi networks are taking up the bandwith in the 2.4 GHz spectrum whether they are using the internet or not, so be like me and have the entire 5 GHz radio frequency all to yourself.
My G iPod Touch, wireless HP printer, and old computer all connect beautifully at the exact same time as my N desktop. Networking between computers doesn't change at all, sharing files still works just fine in my mixed G/N 2.4/5 GHz home network.
Runs great in Wireless Repeating Mode
- Pros: * Reliable brand
* Great web interface * Super cheap (I bought 2 of them!!!) * Dual band capable which means I just run everything in the home at 5GHz (if the device is capable) * Got "Wireless Repeating" working easily * Can flash the firmware but I didn't need to (dd-wrt)
- Cons: * A reboot turns the bright flashing blue lights on each time but it's pretty easy to turn off (the dome on the top of the router is an actual button to toggle the lights).
- Other Thoughts: So I bought this to connect my Xbox360 to one WNDR3300 and then enable the Wireless Repeating function and connect to another WNDR3300 (connected to my PC and Cable). It works over 5GHz and the range is pretty good. I can stream HD video (H264, MP4) content to my Xbox360.
Another big bonus is I can hook up my Samsung LCD and Bluray player to the network to get widgets and other online based stuff working. Having 4 network points running at wireless N is pretty awesome.
I also connect using my iPod/iPhone to the network so if I am by the PC or TV, my signal is great. And with my macbook pro I connect at good speeds whereever I am.
Take note when configuring this router, it broadcasts out 2 SSID's, one for the B/G network and one for N. So you always know which one you can connect to.
