3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good solid signal all over the house. Running stable for month. Speed as advertised. No external antennas that can brake off, good web interface for configuration. Media server works with any USB stick I plugged in.

Cons: Wifi signal range suddenly dropped to only a few feet after working fine for 2 years. Was hoping it would live longer...

Other Thoughts: Not sure how long such appliances are supposed to last, but two years is disappointing. My old Netgear WGT624 is still working after 5 years.

Manufacturer Response:

Have you tried upgrading to the latest firmware to see if that helps?

1 out of 5 eggsNot good!

Pros: Worked great for 13 months......

Cons: Wireless crapped after 13 months, tried to get it "repaired" from Netgear. They would not repair, I was even willing to pay, but they don't do that, yada, yada, yada....

Other Thoughts: If I wanted to buy another Netgear, they would be happy to provide warranty until it expired. Not a chance! Replaced with a DLink and have never looked back. I have had the DLink (same model) for 5 years and it just keeps going!

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsREALLY ???

Pros: Nice looking unit well priced, works sometimes

Cons: So many people have warned about this unit and most other Netgear products being duds. Looks like they are on the ball.

I own a Computer Repair business (A+ CompTIA Life Member) and rely heavily on Networking being reliable when purchased and deployed. As part of my business I'm asked to recommend products and as of this time NETGEAR will never get a referral from me.

The unit regularly cycles into down time where nothing loads and I have to hard reset the unit before it allows web pages to load properly. Sadly his unit is sending to a Netgear WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender. There is only 2 walls and 20 feet between them. Both are elevated. So between them the wireless connections and hard wiring is a disaster. It took me 20 minutes to load this page.

My old netgear router had issues but always worked and as it aged I expected to have to give it some TLC but NEW NOT WORKING IS TOTALLY WRONG !!!

Other Thoughts: The only way Netgear is going to get any where with me over this disaster is serious humble pie from them and reliable working products. Other than that I'm now their enemy.

I am not going to pay the fees to return these products as that's a rip off as well.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Router - while it lasts

Pros: Good speed, wired and wireless, wireless range is good.

Cons: My second WNDR3700 just died. The first one was replaced by Netgear when I couldn't connect wirelessly. Even right next to it InSSIDer showed almost no signal.

That was just over a year ago. Today the replacement died. I don't know what the issue is, even the wired connections stopped working. I replaced it with an old Linksys I had sitting around and am now looking for a more reliable replacement.

Other Thoughts: Any piece of equipment can go bad, I understand this. I have routers and switches that worked for years without a glitch. So having two of the same brand/model die, each with only a year +/- of use, is totally unacceptable and speaks to poor quality control. I'll be avoiding Netgear now.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Remo,

We want to thank you for your honest review and would like to offer some assistance. Please post on our forums with any questions as well as a copy and paste of your review.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great for about 6 months

Pros: Excellent capabilities for a wireless router while it works
Worked wonderfully, for about 6 months
Features - "Guest" Network, dual band
UI for config was pretty good

Cons: ---------------------------------------------------
Constant Degradation of Stability:
After 6 months, traffic started behaving strangely. Web sites would randomly not load, but then load upon refresh. A few more months went by, and certain kinds of traffic started dropping for significant amounts of time. I first noticed the real issue with XBOX live -- the connection would drop in the middle of games, chats, etc... At first, I thought it was the typical wireless issues that lots of folks have. So I started plugging in the XBOX. For about a month, this worked. Then, even on wired, the connection would drop.

My friend and I started timing the dropouts. Ever 5 minutes - 5 minutes 30 seconds, the connection would drop (wired or wireless). I also noticed similar issues with all other traffic (similar frequency). Whenever I swapped out this router for my old Linksys router, the issues stopped.

I have upgraded firmware a couple times (different versions over the past two years), tried everything I could find on the internet to fix, but nothing worked.

The horrible behavior continued until finally, today, it became so unreliable that I get about 2 minutes before I have to reboot the router. The issues show up on all devices connected to it, wired, or wireless (guest, non guest, both bands).

I swapped out this router numerous times over the past two years with my old Linksys just to verify the issues weren't stemming from my ISP or other sources. Whenever I swap out the router the problems cease, which signifies to me the ISP is not to blame (I have had two ISPs due to moving cross country during the ownership period, and the same issues happened with this router).

Basically, the router acted like it was suffering from firmware rot (even with multiple firmware updates, factory resets, etc...)

---------------------------------------------------
Telnet Annoyance
This router also has a telnet console you can use. Unfortunately, you can not ever *really* turn it off.

Other Thoughts: Of the 25 months I have owned this, I have regretted this purchase for 19.

I didn't return it partly because of laziness, and partly because I wanted to see how bad things would get with this router. I finally have decided to retire this expensive paperweight.

Manufacturer Response:

We want to thank you for the detailed review and would like to let you know that we are always listening. If you have any questions or would like some assistance we recommend checking out our forums.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome router

Pros: this is a great router, I have a lot of these out in the field

Cons: nothing negative really, I've used a lot of routers

Other Thoughts: I buy these all the time for a variety of uses.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the Best!

Pros: I've had this router for about 2.5 years now and it's bullet proof.
I rarely touch it - thunder storms, rain, sleet, snow - power outages etc. and it still goes strong. It pushes a signal to the back bedroom through the furnace, water heater and a rock tiled bathroom. Granted the signal is weak but you can still surf the web. I can't imagine the negative reviews I see here. Setup is a breeze and it has the magic WPS button! What more could you want?

Cons: I can't think of any cons other than wishing it would reach my work half a mile down the road.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I lucked out and just got the one perfect router from the assembly line but man you need to get one! Mine is the V.2 (version 2) and I believe that the new ones are V.3 - other that that it's the same router.

1 out of 5 eggsGood for first few weeks, now horrible

Pros: Easy to change network info

Cons: Super slow to reboot
Wireless goes out weekly

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend getting if you don't like your internet randomly going out on you weekly

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Teke,

We want to apologize for the weekly outages you are experiencing. We want to help get it working-- please contact our support team at support.netgear.com.

What you are experiencing is not how your WNDR3700 should be acting.

2 out of 5 eggsNo readyshare printer support

Pros: Faster connection speed.

Cons: On its website, it says "Wirelessly access & share USB hard drive & printer". but this model doesn't support ReadyShare printer, as it turns out. I purchased this model for sharing printer in my mind. Online chat support didn't identify this problem on the first try. Only after I went through the ReadyShare software installation process, then I was told it is not support. DD-WRT is next, I guess

Other Thoughts: Would have give it a one egg rating if not for reasonable online-chat support.

Manufacturer Response:

If you have any more trouble you can always email us at newegg@netgear.com-- provide a copy and paste of your review and any case numbers that you receieved from support.

We apologize for the frustrations.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed - Going back to Linksys

Pros: It still turns on?

Cons: The wifi is horrible (both 2.4 and 5 gighz)
Every firmware update has been worse than the previous

Other Thoughts: I have had this for over a year (v1) and it has been a nightmare. I have to augment the wifi with a WRT160NL about 30 ft from the wndr3700 (my entire house is wired so most of my devices are wired except for some laptops). I can get 30 mbps on wifi (over 60 on wired) if I test right after rebooting the router but after a day or so it will drop to 8 mbps or less at the same location.

Even with 8 mbps I should be able to stream Netflix but I have a lot of connection issues. Also have connection issues with this router and Directv2PC.

I left Linksys because the wrt series left a lot to be desired but probably wont go back to netgear after owning the WNDR3700.

Manufacturer Response:
