4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal

Pros: Very reliable, great looking design, dual band, very easy setup allows for very quick installation. Very reliable and have not had any issue with it at all.

Cons: Somewhat confusing changing the name for the 5GHz network. It is a little large for those who have limited space but can go standing with the stand or horizontal. When stand is placed, it is very difficult to remove. Netgear genie a little difficult to navigate.

5 out of 5 eggsBeen working great

Pros: simple setup, guest network, dual band speeds, usb storage option

Cons: doesn't support DD-WRT

Other Thoughts: I've been running this router almost non-stop for almost a year with multiple wireless devices, Roku, Wii, 4 PCs, 2 tablets, 2 smartphones, etc and performance has never been an issue. I always get my ISP's maximum bandwidth, my VoIP phone runs great through it even when torrenting. Best router i've owned yet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Good price, dual band, easy setup, reliable connections, good range, fast throughput

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have been using this router for almost two years and can't say a bad thing about it. I can't remember the last time it dropped a connection and I hear no complaints in the house about poor connections. Overall, it is the best router I have used.

2 out of 5 eggsCan't configure to work with network

Pros: It turns on when plugged in. Works as stand-alone router

Cons: I purchased the router to increase our WiFi speed from 56 Mhz to 300 Mhz. I was using a Linksys WRT54GL that connected to our Netopia modem and worked well. When I plugged in the Netgear to our DSL modem, the IP address defaults to 10.0.0.1. I get a message on the configuration page stating that the IP was changed due to a conflict with our ISP. The default out of the box is 192.168.1.1. Our LAN set up for a 192.168.1.xxx IP configuration. I attempted to set the router IP to the 192.168.1.xxx, but every time I plug it in to the modem it loses connection to our LAN and resets to the 10.0.0.1 IP.. We have wireless printers in our LAN and when I try to print using the NETGEAR, I get an error message saying that the printer is not on the same network as the printer.

I called Netgear support in an attempt to find out how to get the IP of the router to keep from defaulting to the 10.0.0.1 address. We were on the phone for over two hours and they kept telling me that I had to contact support for the printers in order to get them to communicate and print using the WiFi. I kept telling them that there is nothing wrong with the printer since it works with the Linksys and that if I could get the Netgear to stay configured to the IP configuration we use, I feel confident that it would work as well.

Our session ended with me giving up and reinstalling the Linksys. It may be slow, but it works. I guess I can try to RMA it to Newegg and upgrade to a faster Linksys.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Router

Pros: Wasn't too hard to setup
Lot of features
Haven't had to reset it at all

Cons: The wifi on it is not very good. My old linksys had better signal.
Applying settings takes a really long time compared to my old router.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a pretty good router, I didn't want to have to but I ended up having to use my old router as a wireless extender since the wifi on this router just isn't that strong.

4 out of 5 eggsWish the range were better

Pros: Fast, when in range

Cons: Range is not as great as the 2wire modems from ATT. I though that paying for a premium route would give better range than the free router Att gives out

Other Thoughts: I recently switched from dsl to cable, and had to get a wireless router since the cable company only provides a modem.

1 out of 5 eggsCare to roll the dice?

Pros: Works extremely well while it works. Quick setup, easy sharing of router-connected hard drive

Cons: Didn't work for long - stopped assigning IP addresses within weeks of purchase. The replacement stopped powering on altogether after a few months. NetGear customer service is torturous to deal with.

Other Thoughts: My original WNDR3700 (v3) worked for roughly two weeks. After that, computers and devices could connect to it, but could not reach the Internet. In fact, I could only even reach the on-board setup software via WiFi - a direct ethernet connection would return nothing at all.

I spent, without exaggeration, five to six HOURS on the phone with NetGear Customer Service, as they made me jump through every increasingly-ridiculous hoop, including making me go through the step of calling my ISP to accuse them of denying access to the router's MAC address (which is a plainly silly idea), before finally issuing me an RMA, for which I (of course) had to cover shipping.

Fast forward two to three months after receiving the replacement router, and it suddenly, without warning, simply stops powering on. No LEDs, not even a blink, nothing. Confirmed the AC adapter was able to power other devices, but no go with the router. Now, it seems that I may have to pay NetGear $40 just for the pleasure of spending another six hours on the phone, best case scenario. Worst case scenario, my refurbished router is not covered in any way, and I'm out of luck after only three months of actual use.

I'm satisfied with giving the product one egg because it really does work quite nicely when it works. I'd just think hard about whether you want to roll the dice on how long it'll last.

4 out of 5 eggsNewegg replaced my item

Pros: Easy to setup. so far is O.K
This one I received 2 days ago, first one was defective one. Netgear was charging to replace as I explained in my previous review. I called and explained whole issue with Newegg Cust. Serv. Rep. and said since it is less than 3 months and since I have case ID for defective one they replaced free of charge. I should really appreciate Newegg customer service. Absolutely outstanding.

Cons: Netgear should improve their customer service and RMA policy for defective items.

Other Thoughts: The reason I upgraded to this router because I used rangemax router before almost 4 years no problem and few months ago it really went down. I loved netgear product, but didn't experience any customer service issues for the other product. But this time I had enough frustration. Probably I won't buy Netgear product in the future, if this goes bad.

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear's gone downhill

Pros: It works fine - unless you're on a local area network. The last Netgear WAP I had was 5-star (would have given it 6 if there was enough room).

Cons: If you don't want this thing to be your DHCP server AND your gateway (which you can't on a business network) you're out of luck. The unit doesn't work if you don't have the WAN port connected to the internet when you power it up AND you have to LEAVE it connected. So if you wanted to use it just for the wireless access point features, then you're in trouble. It also has no option to set it up as a DHCP client, so if you want to use it with a network, you need to use a static map on your DHCP server.

Sorry Netgear, this thing is worthless to me.

Other Thoughts: I get sick and tired of having these things tailored for people who can't think for themselves. Let me get in and set it up myself, for pete's sake. And quit assuming that everyone is on a home network.
