5 out of 5 eggsBeast!

Pros: Love this switch. Simple, does its job. Small, easy to install, color coded for those who don't read instructions. Really like the lights on the front and cords plugging into the back, my previous switch had the lights and cords on the same side.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Oh and its black, so looks smooth and matches most of my hardware!

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear = Headache

Pros: None it failed out of the box. It would not allow the device out

Cons: Dealing with Netgear Customer Service. Person I spoke with didnt even want to help me. They didnt even know what product they were helping me with

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 of these at the time, 1 failed out of box. Been longer than 90 days since purchase so I couldnt return to newegg and why should i it comes with a 2 year warranty that netgear doesnt seem to want to honor. Words of advice test right as soon as you get it, becasue netgear wont do anything to fix it

5 out of 5 eggsNetgear 5 port Desktop Switch

Pros: Easy to install, Color coded ports easy to understand and makes connections to the appropriate devices simple.
It also looks good in my media center. Does exactly what it says and fits my need in this area.

Cons: None that I can see.

Other Thoughts: Perfect for a home entertainment unit. A single line to your media center gives you the ports where you need them.

4 out of 5 eggsIsn't geared for desktops

Pros: -Free with purchase of RT-N66U (amazing router)
-Bandwidth management
-Minimal, easily hidden

Cons: -Not great if you are only hooking up desktops (see comments)

Other Thoughts: I use Wake On Lan for all my desktops. Took a lot of frustration and troubleshooting before I narrowed it down to the switch. To save energy it powers down ports that are not in use preventing magic packets from getting to the desktop. In any event, that was a failure on my part. Had I been in the market for a switch I would have ruled this out.

For gaming console, smart TV or use with desktops that you aren't trying to do WOL it is great!

4 out of 5 eggsGood little switch for the price I paid

Pros: Paid $22 for the switch so it's worth 4 stars. The gigabit ports seem to handle large file transfers well.

Cons: None at the moment

5 out of 5 eggsExactly What I Needed

Pros: I wanted an upgrade my entertainment systems and this unit fits the bill perfectly, and was lucky to catch it on sale, though it is worth the normal going price. There are other gigabit switches that are cheaper, though they may or may not work as as well or hold up as long, it is a matter of preference and if you think something is worth a few extra bucks. As an unmanaged switch, there's nothing to do but plug everything in and power it up. The QoS priority for the ports works well and has helped with streaming HD video where the other connections aren't competing for the extra bandwidth. The unit is cool running and the front facing lights aren't too bright.

Cons: None, works as advertised without any problems..

Other Thoughts: Well made unit with no vices. It is made of sturdy enough plastic rather than metal which doesn't have any real bearing on the quality or longevity as it is a "set it up and leave it alone" type of device. The cabinet is cleverly designed to provide airflow through the device without the vents being readily noticeable. So far no complaints, and the power cord was about 2 meters long which made positioning very easy. Like everything else these days that are made in China, the long term durability is always a potential issue.
