5 out of 5 eggsSolid POE switch

Pros: Solid construction, fan-less, 50W POE, Lifetime warranty

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Got this switch powering 4 PoE HD IP cameras for 2 years running now. Performance has been exactly what you would want - plug it in and forget about it. The lifetime warranty and gigabit ports justify the price, and when combined with Newegg promo code, it is cheaper than buying it on auction without a warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple and solid

Pros: Installation was flawless. Hooked into router and handling 3 devices almost instantaneously. ProSafe warranty makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Cons: I wish switches were sold with 1 additional port to cover the router connection; I hate how I can only attach 7 devices with my 8-port switch. But that is not specific to this product, rather the market in general.

Other Thoughts: Will edit later after longer period of use. At this time, PoE has not been used.

3 out of 5 eggsFast and POE

Pros: Fast and POE, feels solid

Cons: very finicky network after installing this switch, cannot get computers to renew ip addresses with switch installed and, needed to reboot the switch everytime I made any changes, also makes the netgear router's cpu load skyrocket evertime there is network activity, (network was fine connecting directly to the router).
could not figure it out as it is an unmanaged switch which really should have no overhead or so I thought

Other Thoughts: rma

3 out of 5 eggsDoes not support VLANs

Pros: Very well built gigabit switch. PoE is great.

Cons: The data sheet on Netgear's website clearly shows a network diagram demonstrating how you can use this switch to create separate VLANs using this switch to segment your network - which is one of the main reasons I needed it for. Just type in GS108P in the search box on the Netgear home page and click on the first or second link that comes up and you will see a diagram that shows the switch being used to create two separate VLANs. I spent an hour on the phone with Netgear tech support. They were as confused as I was. After getting put on hold multiple times while the tech tried to figure out what was going on, they finally came to the conclusion that it is impossible to create VLANs with this unit. The data sheet and the website are wrong.

Other Thoughts: Gave this switch 3 eggs because of all the trouble Netgear gave me over this switch. If you only need a well built gigabit switch that has 4 PoE ports, this would probably be a good choice.

5 out of 5 eggsGood POE Switch

Pros: Needed something to drive a few POE video cameras and this switch worked flawlessly (so far). No fan so it's obviously quiet. Nice to have 8 gigabit ports (4 of which are POE). You can also use the POE ports for non-POE routing.

Cons: POE switches are still rather pricy especially ones with Gigabit. Still this one was cheaper than many others at the time of purchase.

Other Thoughts: Because of POE ports, I'm betting you want to keep this in a cool vented area more so than regular switches. We'll see if there are any issues over time. Would have been nice to have all 8 ports as POE but I'm sure they would have to tack on a larger power supply and higher cost with it.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a managed switch

Pros: I purchased this switch in order to power up some PoE phones and it does just that.

Cons: This switch is not a managed switch. Even though newegg.com doesn't specify it as one netgear.com does. On netgear.com's webpage it says the switch is "Easy-to-manage through web-based GUI". I called Netgear and they said it was an error.

I purchased a GS108T many months ago and it does have a web-based GUI. Netgear has a problem on their hands with miss respresenting their product on their webpage.
