1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Junk

Pros: When it works, it works albeit brief.

Cons: Everytime this piece of junk is connected to my network, after some length of time, sometimes a day, a week or month it causes network issues. Caused my wireless AP to refuse any wireless connections, on both an ASUS AP and a cisco AP. On numerous occasions. The only way to restore access is by powering off this unit. Once powered off everything on my wireless network behaves as it should.

Other Thoughts: I should have listened to some of the reviews that have similar complaints.

1 out of 5 eggsManufactured by Trendnet

Pros: None

Cons: This product is evidently the same as TRENDnet TEW-654TR N300 Wireless Travel Router Kit IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n with two of the functions blocked.

There is a switch on the bottom which has been blocked and the Netgear unit is set to client mode only.

The Trendnet product has two more functions and is a much more flexible product at a considerable lesser cost.

3 out of 5 eggsOverheats then locks up

Pros: It's nice to be free of USB networking. Who said all Wi-Fi adapters should require USB?

This allows me to string a long Ethernet cable for optimal antenna positioning rather than being tethered to a short USB cable

Allows quick setup of a PC using built-in TCP/IP. No need to install special USB networking drivers

Cons: It works fine until I transfer large amounts of data in a short time. Then it hangs and has to be cooled then rebooted. Other than that it works fine. I think this is a poor thermal design from Netgear. Short bursts like email or web browsing don't affect it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use on a benchtop while building new PC's. On first boot I need to download MS updates and then to copy user data from older PC's. A large video file will hang this. So, I now aim a small muffin fan at it and it works reliably.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: It works occasionally

Cons: This thing is totally unreliable. Screws you over when you really need it, doesn't connect to anything, takes 2 minutes between tries, zero feedback to the user about what isn't working. Frustrating is the word. Tried it on multiple networks, multiple security types... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Finally have given up. What a waste of time and money. Oh, and it doesn't remember the last connection...

Other Thoughts: You will learn to hate it.

1 out of 5 eggsdead within 7 weeks

Pros: Few and far between. The connection wizard is slow as hell and inconsistent, and even when it's connected it isn't getting a strong signal.

Cons: Product died in 6-7 weeks. Tech support has gone through a suite of tests and agreed it's a hardware problem but refuses to replace it.

Product disconnected every week or two even when it was working and would require reprogramming

Setup wizard is awful and allows no manual setup

Weak signal, no 5ghz support

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Product

Pros: Easy Setup- Great Internal Antenna

Cons: Instructions could confuse a novice user

Other Thoughts: Overall a great product- works great for an industrial application connecting a PLC to our network across an area I cannot run cable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat clutter reducer

Pros: Small. Easy to setup, and love the USB power option.

I have one on my TV at home and three in my print shop. I've converted 3 large RISO Comcolors systems to wireless and will be getting three more of these to do a RISO RZ1090, RIcoh, Scanner, and Ricoh Laser.

This freed up a linksys bridge with 5 ethernet ports to use with our Epson 4800 4 pack.

So far, I'll be eliminating 5 AC power adapters with bridges and those cables.

Great thing is when the systems are shut down, the adapter shuts down as well. That means no AC powered bridge running 24/7. That saves on the power bill over time.

Cons: None for the actual unit, but wish I could find one with dual ethernet ports, which would make it perfect for the old Ricoh setup we have. :)

3 out of 5 eggsRogue DHCP/DNS Issue

Pros: Simple to configure, works pretty well for what it's for

Cons: Like previous reviewers stated, it's got a mind of it's own. When you least expect it, it starts grabbing your hardware to route through it, not through your router. The onboard DHCP server goes nuts and starts routing everything through it. I got a message on my browser that says, the netgear, followed by the IP, is controlling this device. OK

Other Thoughts: With these issues, it's not even worth having it in the mix. You spend a day trying to figure out why internet is not working, when you figure out it's the netgear, you then want to figure out how to fix it rather than turn it off and throw it away. Real waste of time.

4 out of 5 eggsThis is useful for it's purpose

Pros: It works as intended. That is, I connect it up to a single device and it will push the wireless through the Ethernet adapter for that one specific device. (See other thoughts for explanation) The USB power source is fantastic.

Cons: I dinged it a star since it will not connect up to a switch but it will connect up to a wired router to make it wireless but with a wireless router at the same price as this device, who cares? It does get a bit hot and I am a bit worried about this overheating but hopefully that won't be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 of them, one for my xbox, blu-ray player, and printer. All work flawlessly. The reason this works is it does a MAC aliasing to copy the mac address for your Ethernet and tunnel packs to your device though it's own port. Since Ethernet macs are GUID, this isn't a problem but this does mean that you can not run this from a switch and expect it to work. I tried, the second device (in my case an xbox) can't resolve an ip because it will clash with the other connected devices. If your wife is complaining about having wires all over the apartment hooking everything together, this is a great device. It's also quite small. The picture makes it look huge but it's about half the size of a deck of cards. Well worth the money.
