1 out of 5 eggsA very poor choice

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: I've been building and maintaining computers since 1985. So I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing.

And I have have pretty good idea this is one FAILED product.

Oh, it's easy enough to set up - initially. But prepare yourself for the CONSTANT complaints from your wife and children "The Internet's not working ".

Then spend 15 minutes to an hour rebooting and rechecking everything, when it will finally work again. For a day - MAYBE.

After a couple of months of this I thought maybe I got a bad Unit - or a bad Power Adapter. But my second one is just as bad as the first.

Cons: Fails DAILY.

Other Thoughts: This piece of junk has soured me on anything from NetGear.

1 out of 5 eggsFails Every Day

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: Excellent Signal Strength - when it works.

Cons: Needs to be re-booted nearly every day. I am so tired of hearing "Dad, my Internet is not working !"

Other Thoughts: Can be very tricky to set up, with lots of studying the manuals, rebooting everything over and over. A HUGE Time-Waster.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid at any price

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: Work perfect on initial installation. I thought wow this is nice what an awesome product. Then the next day happened. See Cons

Cons: Device freezes every 24 hours and is unresponsive to every input.
Power cycle is only thing that restores the product.
Power cycle every day is unacceptable operation.
Support was non-existent or unable in solving problems

Other Thoughts: 24 hours after initial setup is when the problems started to occur. The router was completely frozen. No internet and couldn't even access the routers configuration page. Only solution was to do a power cycle. Next day same thing. Having to power cycle every day is unacceptable operation.

Did all the proper steps to resolve the problem

1. checked my computers setup- fine everything up to date no weird programs running.
2 Factory reset, made sure my firmware was up to date - No change the next day still frozen in the AM
3. Checked Netgear's forums for help. - alot of unanswered help questions and most people claiming they ended up going with another company's product.
4 Signed into Netgears chat service for assistance- After an hour and half still no solution from the Netgear trained tech.

Guess I'll follow the advice I read on Netgears own forums and find another brand for my needs

1 out of 5 eggsDon't even bother

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: Uhh, it looks nice I guess

Cons: Ordered a week ago to create a more stable network in my living room (away from my modem/WNR2000 router) and to have wired access points for the Blue-Ray player and original XBox 360. Big mistake. Not only do none of the wired access points allow internet access when the wireless extension does, but it frequently just stops offering wireless as well. The signal will be fine, but upon connecting the network shows "No internet access". I've been through the Netgear support FAQs, and their support forums, but nothing has gotten this working correctly, not even with it's own line of peripherals; One would think connecting a WN2000RPT to a WNR2000, both from Netgear, would be a cinch, but this much troubleshooting for only iffy connections isn't worth it. Guess I eat the cost of shipping it back.

Other Thoughts: With so many problems out there about this repeater, one would think Netgear could have patched it with a firmware update, but nope.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked perfectly!

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: Using this to extend a network to cover an entertainment room. Client didn't want to bother with running a cable/switch so we linked this to the existing Netgear wireless router. Press the WPS on the router, press the WPS on this unit and poof. Done. Can't be any easier than that.

Cons: None that I encountered, but I'm sure it has limitations that may not work for everyone.

Other Thoughts: This was setup to wirelessly connect devices that didn't have wireless options to the wireless router in the computer room (approx 25 feet distance) Namely, a Direct TV receiver, a Pioneer 7.1 Receiver, a Sony Bravo 4K TV and the 4K player. (TV has wireless, but we wanted to free up some of the bandwidth). Also connected to this unit wirelessly to the Sony BD player and the A. Fire. So yes, this little box is supporting 6 multimedia devices, 4 with cable, and 2 wirelessly. And it works great!

1 out of 5 eggsRequires Almost Daily Reboot

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: Second wireless network and four wired ports

Cons: Drops connection (requires reboot) almost daily

Other Thoughts: I'm a software engineer who works from home. I bought this device to both extend the wireless network in my home and provide wired connections in an office away from the main router. Unfortunately, the Netgear WN2000RPTv2 drops its connection almost every day, and the only way to fix the problem is to restart the device.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst piece of hardware I have ever purchased.

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: None really. I guess the fact it powers up is a pro.

Cons: Spotty wireless connectivity. The device rarely allows more than one device to connect to the wireless. Fortunately, the Ethernet ports on the device work so if you want to use it as a wired router, you're in luck. In order to get any wireless networking from the device, I had to pigtail a Dlink wireless router to its Ethernet port and connect to its wireless. The web interface for the device works when it wants to, but that is a rare occasion (usually after rebooting the device). I do have the most recent firmware installed on the device and it is no help at all. If you are thinking about purchasing this device, change your mind and run (don't walk) away from this choice.

Other Thoughts: I rarely post reviews, but this device is so terrible I felt the need to get the word out to warn others. I purchased this device while it was on sale at Staples, will not purchase Netgear products again. And I used to be semi-loyal to the brand.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh.

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: Affordable. Easy to install.

Cons: Constantly shuts itself off. The unit worked well for about 4 months, then started having an issue where it would randomly disconnect, so I would reboot it, and manually reconnect it (via having to run the setup tool again). A few months after that it started randomly shutting itself off. Unfortunately it would seem that this is a common issue with the product, otherwise I would just order another one.

Other Thoughts: It really is very easy to set up, just gets tedious having to run through that setup twice a day when you want to use it.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsSoSo

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100NAS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Pros: I have owmed 2 of these and the first one is still going the second lasted a liitle over a year and a half.

Cons: I wish the second on would have lasted a little longer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Reboot,

We can't apologize enough that your second extender doesn't seem to work any more. Please let us know if we can help!

What exactly is wrong with the extender?

Does it power on-- which LED lights show if it powers on?

Feel free to post any questions or concerns on our forums at forum1.netgear.com.
