2 out of 5 eggsThis might me a dud.

Pros: Looks brand new. Came with the stand plastic legs to support router. No CD required to install software.

Cons: Despite full bars showing on all of my internet devices, the connection itself or the buffering times were in comparison to have a 56k modem.
On my computer (full bars) on my tablet (full bars) and on my Iphone (full bars) but the one thing was sluggishness one day and the next was back to 56k standard. Mind you I have cable.
I have downloaded the latest firmware to this device and have rebooted the router as well as my other one, and the results are the same. Slow to connect but with full bars showing! Now isn't that strange?

Other Thoughts: Maybe it's a dud or something or perhaps just perhaps I have entered in to the Twilight zone?

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsBox of surprises.

Pros: It looks new.

Cons: This device shows up with full bars on all of my internet enabled computers but it gives off a severe lagg rendering the page blank after a full minute.
I thought it was my computer, then I turned on my tablet and the same thing. Again, it shows full connectivity in the bar but the actual downloading of a page with little to no graphics takes a while. I have downloaded the latest firmware to this router and on the log in the status is good and everything is working, but not so when I am using the actual signal itself. I even encrypted it and the same thing. I have also reset the Netgear router and my home router to no avail.

Other Thoughts: I would appreciate it very much if Netgear contacts me regarding this unusual phenomenon.

Manufacturer Response:

As we said above, please feel free to contact our support teamat

If the issue continues, please email us at with any case numbers you received from support. Please provide a copy and paste of your review and any other information that you can add.

We would love nothing more than to figure out what the issue is.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Shipping - Great Wireless Acess Point!

Pros: I recently had to restructure my network's infrastructure. I live in a house that was built over 100 years ago. With thick walls means horrible single. I have a multitude of five plus routers acting as wireless access points (AP) in my house to ensure wireless throughout. After rearranging my structure I found a black zone that needed to be destroyed and I looked for a cheap and effective tool to fill that void. This refurbished router matched the specs I needed as an AP. The original password was not supplied but it is:
user: admin
password: password

This unit is great for entry level and easy to guess on first setup. Before you attach it to your network I highly suggest you change the password which is easy in the systems low-tech menu. The menu has a lot of features but dispersed them widely across a pane of obstacles to get to. Do not get me wrong it I have handled much worse menus but I have also handled more simple menus also.
Setup was easy and has been running for a week.
I ordered the router on Thursday with free egg saver shipping and received the product on Friday. I must say I am always impressed with New-egg's customer service and have no fears in my mind.
I generally go for refurbished products because most of the time it fixed by the company although sometimes third parties repair things also. The company wasn't stated who fixed this but I assume it was from Net Gear. Long story short for fifteen dollars I do not care if this router breaks after a extended period of time for I have redundancy throughout my network and plan for routers to break eventually.

-Fair price for a like new router.

Cons: I wish it was $10 dollars so I can buy three and store them into my closet.

Other Thoughts: If you need a primary router that will never break on you. I highly recommend Linksys WRT54GL. I have used this router stock and flashed with dd-wrt for over eight years and have yet needed to replace it.

I am graduating with Bachelors in Information Technology in May.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother reliable Netgear product

Pros: - Very inexpensive
- Parental Controls for free
- Strong signal over entire property

Cons: - No dual band
- No gigabit Ethernet ports

Other Thoughts: Many years ago, I purchased a Netgear RT-314. It was only 802.11b but it always worked and never dropped. I made the mistake of purchasing a Cisco E3000 (what a piece of junk) and the old Netgear would come out of the closet while I worked on the Cisco.
I finally got tired of the Cisco and happened to see a Netgear WNR1000-100NAR in Goodwill for $8. This Netgear did not disappoint...flashed it to default, connected to the internet, automatically updated the firmware, set up an OpenDNS account and enable free ParentalContgrols, and locked down the MAC filter and had every device in the house connected in under 30 minutes. Just a pleasant experience dealing with another quality Netgear product!
When I fell the need to upgrade to a dual, simultaneous band router, it will be another Netgear!

5 out of 5 eggsPlain and simple...I like it.

Pros: I've had this router for two years with no problems,I run a BD player,a desktop,a PS3,a laptop and a tablet, and I have no problems. At the time I bought it was cheaper, but I honestly think it is worth a reasonable price bump.

Cons: 1. @ first the firmware had to updated for the router to work properly (if you want to call that a con)
2. Don't expect long wireless range on this one people.

Other Thoughts: It's not a MIMO.but for what I need a router for, this one fits the bill...and yes I bought the refurbished one.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so great!

Pros: Easy setup... plug & go! Works with all the devices in my home, iPods, net-books, Blu-Ray & Wireless N capable TV!

Cons: All I can say is that it worked right out of the box. Experience tells me that refurbished is often better than new! (I was the guy refurbishing Industrial electronics some time ago!) It works great for my wireless N products. Does not like anything that uses a weaker security level.

Other Thoughts: Does not play well with anything not Netgear. Comes as no surprise, Sony has been doing that for years now. Got an extender because of too many devices using the same frequency. In a small apartment, come on, Netgear, get it together, will ya??!? No matter what I do, it will not wirelessly attach to my HP PSC!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Very low cost. Works great if you don't push it too hard.

Cons: For the price their are no cons. It will give you 100% but it has design limitations at this price point. Again, not a con-just reality.

Other Thoughts: Worked great when I lived on acreage. Steamed Netflix. Could game on another computer. Moved to apartment. Too much RF interference for the little guy. Got the top of the line WNR4500 for Christmas. No more problems. Went from a Geo Metro to a Ferrari. Will keep the little guy as a backup.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat for Wireless Internet - C r a p p y for Internal Networking / Filesharing

Pros: It allowed me to restore my internet connection after my previous router died. Wireless has decent signal strength.

Cons: Killed internal traffic on my network (20kps max throughput - to slow to even do a firmware update). I can unplug this device and my internal traffic returns back to normal speed...

Tech support is a joke! The first 2 reps I talked to didnt understand the number 12!!!!!!! Did you say 4? W T F!?! Really... Tech #3.. Well, after 1.5hrs (mostly on hold), "take the router back to the store for a replacement"! Sorry, we cant RMA the device! W T F, really?!?

Other Thoughts: Wish I bought this device from the Egg instead of the local box store (at 2x the price). But I needed the device faster than I could get it from here (existing router died on a Friday and I work from home)..... Oh well..

I bought this router because I have a couple Netgear switches that have been amazing. Also, this router lets you use whatever IP scheme you want!!

At least I can surf the web?
