2 out of 5 eggsNot happy with the wireless connection

Pros: First and last NetGear product I will purchase.

Cons: Wireless connections keep disconnecting but the wired seems to work fine. I Was asked to pay 39.00 to support the product I bought.

Next time I will purchase another Linksys

2 out of 5 eggsToo Bad Netgear

Pros: Worked well as a wireless router, but setup took a while. Never dropped signal or had any issues while up and running.

Cons: USB storage access works with a very limited list of devices. I just bought a 16gb flash drive to put in the USB. It did not work with my WD external drive.

Unit worked well for about 11 months then just stopped working. It will not power up and only single LED light turns on. It wasn't an issue with the power supply as I tried another. I am on my 3rd call with tech support they have my product registered to someone else though I am the original customer. They asked to send a copy of the receipt to their email and it still is not updated. This is my 4th Netgear product and if this is not replaced in a timely manner (box says lifetime warranty), then I will go elsewhere. It sounds like I am out of luck though. Oh well.

1 out of 5 eggsMy first and last Netgear product.

Pros: I bought a refurbished Netgear wndr4000 a few months ago but I have to post my review here since they don't have the refurbished model in stock. I could never get this junk to work because it came with no software and the online page they have you go to setup the router doesn't exist. A couple of months later I decided to try to get it to work again so I called Netgear to see if they could send me the software or give me the correct web page to go to for setup(for no-software installation). The call center is in India or somewhere near. I could barely understand them, having to ask them to repeat everything at least twice, became so frustrated I basically hung up on them. They won't help and now they are trying to charge me $80 for tech help to get the router online. What a scam! Now I have a $80 dollar paper weight.

Cons: I would give a negative rating if I could. This is my first and LAST Netgear product. They can stick this router where the sun doesn't shine.
I wanted to post this review to let people know about the company they are dealing with.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's so so, to be honest

Pros: It's easy to setup, has dual band which is 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz. It also has a separate guest network for isolation if you have your friends or neighbor over go on the internet.

Cons: I'm giving it 2 eggs because it is supposed to be very good with the firmware dd-wrt, but I notice that the 2.4 ghz drops from 300 mbps to about 144 or sometimes 48 mbps, which sucks and my wireless card I got that supports up to 450 mbps keeps getting slower, less than 300 mbps on the 2.4, which is not good because I want other devices in the future to support the 300 mark.

Other Thoughts: If I knew that this would give issues with the dd-wrt, I wouldn't have bought this router. And I do have the latest firmware for dd-wrt.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not Buy

Pros: For the 10 minutes the first unit worked I pulled 23Mbit using wireless with speedtest.net.

Cons: First unit lasted about 10 minutes and then the wireless quit working. Factory resets and 4 different flavors of firmware did not fix it. Returned the unit and the second one wouldn't even power on. One light lit up briefly and then poof, nothing. Power source is clean and previous router powers right up and works fine.

Other Thoughts: Well at least my wired router is still working... People have always complained about netgear although it has typically been a simple firmware upgrade that fixes any bugs. Two units in a row simply not working is enough to discourage me from being a return customer. Newegg still rocks though :)

3 out of 5 eggsKinda dissapointed

Pros: When it works, it works very good. Easy to set up. I have been buying Netgear products for years and they always work very well.

Cons: It drops connectivity, quite often. it seems like i have to reset the router about once a week. As a long time customer of Netgear product I'm kinda disjointed.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried contacting Netgear yet about the problems but as i read in other reviews, it doesn't seem like it would do any good anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsHardware failed after 15 months - there is no lifetime warranty

Pros: * Software was stable when hardware worked
* Performance was relatively better than equivalent linksys
and Belkin routers that I tried

Cons: While the hardware worked fine, this router performed well and software was stable as well.
However, one fine day (I bought this router at full price $150 in April 2011) it stopped working.
The power LED stays orange. I tried all firmware reflash procedures mentioned in netgear knowledge base.
No use. USB light or ethernet LEDs never light up in any color.

Netgear customer support gave this as the answer - so officially there is no lifetime warranty:
Upon reviewing the data you have provided, I have narrowed down your issue to a hardware problem with your product.

It could have been possible to get the device replaced if the unit was still under warranty. However, as the hardware warranty has expired, we would not be able replace the unit for you.

Duh? They can say "Our hardware is not expected to work for more than 1 year - tough luck". Frankly, I went for the highest end product in market as my performance needs are higher and I was willing to pay up. I was expecting som

2 out of 5 eggsNot great for Access Points

Pros: Nothing really, maybe it looks nice standing upright !

Cons: As microDude mentioned below, dont waste your time if you wish to use it AP (access point), our switch just fails to allocate IP's to new device after 2 days of running, and have to reboot the router every second day so new clients can get on the internet and the network. I am not sure about the DHCP hack microdude mentioned but might have to give it a try. O an Netgear support is awful, tried it the day the router came in an i noticed that you cannot have guest network enabled if you wish to use it as Access point, the support person kept repeating the steps mentioned in the Manual without really understanding or having any technical know how. I think their tech. support is outsourced. Wasted money on 2 of these bad routers. Not sure if now they will RMA the darn things.

5 out of 5 eggsGood router

Pros: Wireless signal is about average or slightly better. Typically 3 computers here accessing the router at distances of 40' +/- through walls without any problems.
The USB port is particularly handy. Hooked up an external drive that we can all access, and have had no problems with multiple computers accessing the drive at the same time.
Additional features of the router are good and comparable to others. The QoS system (which is important in my household with 3 computers accessing the net) works quite well without needing to be upgraded/changed to aftermarket software.

Cons: Every time you change something in the router, it does take some time to 'apply' the changes. When you first try to set up the router, this can be a bit frustrating as you must apply the changes for one section, wait for the router to program your changes, then rinse/repeat as many times as it takes to set it up the way you want.
Would have been nice if they had designed the software with an "apply all changes" type of system... would have saved a lot of time on setup.

Other Thoughts: I've used Netgear for many years and come to trust the brand, but some of the negative reviews here nearly made me change my mind on this one. I have not been disappointed, though. Aside from the setup taking time to program changes, I have no complaints.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good choice for small business

Pros: Good looking.

Cons: OK, so I went the cheap route and tried to use 2 of these (N750) for a small business as access points. Long story short, that effort did not pay off.

First off, the "routing" capability of the N750 is very limited! No separate LANs or VLANs. In addition, no separate VLANs for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. There is no DHCP passthrough, so you have to use a hardware hack of disabling DHCP on the N750 and and connecting the main router to the LAN of the N750. Yikes!

In addition, the multiple SSID is sort of a joke. If you want to segregate the guest network there is no ability to setup a routing table, so you are forced to only use the WAN, which sucks if you are trying to do DHCP passthrough (read above).

Like I said, I might have been trying to use the N750 for a purpose it was not designed, but come on, they call it a "High Performance" Wireless Router. It is lacking features that my 12 year old Linksys router has!

Other Thoughts: Just exchanged for the D-Link DAP-2553 for about the same price.
