1 out of 5 eggsForget It

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: Small; self-powered; idiot-proof installation

Cons: Does indeed extend the range of my AT&T router, and shows connected on my Win7 desktop, but does not connect reliably to the Internet. If/when you get get online, the question is "How long before the connection drops?" That can be anywhere from 1-10 minutes.

Other Thoughts: Frustrating little device. I finally gave up trying to make it work, installed a really long Ethernet cable, and tossed this gadget out. End of problems.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect One

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: This is exactly what I been looking for! It works perfectly to have wifi connection from basement to second floor. it gets exact same DSL speed at each corner. It took me less than a minute to connect the device and modem from my desktop. Easy and Quick! No headache!

I picked the Netgear after looking at the reviews! Thanks guys!

4 out of 5 eggsExtends my Wi-Fi

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: Easy setup, just follow the instructions. I had mine up and connected in less than 15 minutes. My D-Link DIR-655 Router and the NetGear WN3000RP synced for set up very easily. It shows up in the routers setup menu.

Cons: Firmware was a little tricky to update but finally it updated.

Other Thoughts: I am thinking of getting another one to add to my network to get a better coverage throughout my house and outside.

1 out of 5 eggsupdated review

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: None that I can see

Cons: Doesn't work with MacOS X?

Other Thoughts: Because Netgear commented on my last review (just a couple days ago), I went and called their support line for help. For the Netgear people who commented on my last review, my ticket # was 23318415.

After some wrangling, I was able to update the firmware, and it now seems to work with my iPad (but not the SONOS app), and my MacBookPro still refuses to work with the thing. It's not even getting an IP address (DHCP not working for the Mac). I have never had a problem connecting to any wifi network with my mac before (I've had it 2 years).

The best part here was that after they helped me get the FW upgraded, they told me I had to buy a $200 support contract to get more support for my $50 wifi extender!!! Really? It's never worked, and they won't help me getting it working? Their opinion was that since it works with the iPad, that there must be something wrong with my Mac - well, my Mac works great everywhere else. There's something clearly wrong about the Netgear extender.

I've had other Netgear products before, and have been generally satisfied, but not so with this one! I'll be avoiding Netgear in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry for the way support handled your case and would like to help you get this taken care of right away. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review, the ticket #, and any case numbers you received from support.

We hope to hear from you soon.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect solution to extend Wi-Fi range

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: My bedroom was out of range to access Wi-Fi provided by my Belkin 802.11b/g/n router. I now connect consistently with a 5/5 connection strength at 110+Mbps. The Netgear Wi-Fi range extender is a perfect solution to extend Wi-Fi range. The "Push 'N' Connect" feature Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) worked painlessly to connect to my WPA2-PSK-secured home network. Comparing my experience with an earlier generation of Wi-Fi extender (Linksys Wireless-G ranged expander WRE54G) this Netgear Wi-Fi extender exceeds my expectations. I can recommend this equipment without reservation.

2 out of 5 eggsCreates new SSID

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: I never got it working correctly - I'm going to try updating FW, though. It worked sometimes, though.

Cons: Creates a new SSID, and is not compatible with some devices, such as my SONOS system (which is why I bought it). :(. SONOS requires that you're on the same network, and since this is not a repeater/bridge (does not use same SSID), the SONOS does not work with it.

Other Thoughts: Thinking of trying another brand/device

Manufacturer Response:

The WN3000RP by default creates a new SSID. If you would like it to expand the existing network and need some help please contact our support team.

Our apologies for the problems and frustrations. We thank you for choosing NETGEAR and hope to hear from you soon.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly Headaches

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: None

Cons: Will not work. Has to be the worst networking device I have ever seen.

Other Thoughts: Ended up with this as a cast off from someone else who was tired of trying to get it to work.

Reset and configured it for use with my network. Only got "no internet access" message. Could ping it from my router, could also see it from my other devices, and could see devices connected to it, but could never get anything connected to it to access the internet.

Tried the wps button method aka "Just press the button and works just like magic!" and same result - "No Internet access"

Used a Diamond WR300N and in less than 60 seconds was up and running.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a wart and it works well

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: In use for over six months straight without issue - no reboots.
Simple setup, reliable connections, and speed.
It may be a wall wart, but it works very well. We needed to extend our 2.4GHz band to the upstairs of the house. The primary connections are with our smart phones. But even when connecting our laptops, the speed is more than reasonable for web browsing and basic computing needs.

Cons: None, really

5 out of 5 eggsHotspot Bridge use!

This review is from: NETGEAR WN3000RP-100NAS N300 Wall-plug Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender-2 External Antennas

Pros: Ease of setup

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Used to bridge a hotspot to a Linksys E2500 (also purchased here a while back) to get the range needed and eliminate the 5 device issue with the MIFI. Works GREAT for this application!
Many inquires have been online and this fills the need.
