1 out of 5 eggsTotal dud! Don't buy.

Pros: - Simple to set up
- Low price

Cons: - Doesn't maintain connectivity
- Needs frequent reset. At least once a day
- Locks up devices connected to it

Other Thoughts: I purchased this device to improve overall WiFi signal coverage in my home as the main WiFi router sits in one corner on the upper floor of the house. I had read the mixed reviews but since this was offered at a low price I thought of giving it a try.

The initial set up was a breeze and I set it up with the same SSID as my router so that devices could move seamlessly without having to be reconfigured. However, that's where the fun ended.

My family members started complaining that internet wasn't working and after some initial troubleshooting I found that the culprit was this extender. The moment I switched it off, the devices - laptops, iphones, etc. got working back to normal.

This set me on a discovery mission to zoom into the problem and get it resolved as I was bent on making this work!

After a lot of adjustments both on the extender side and the router side, I continued facing the problem. Reading up on the forums on the Netgear support site, I realized that there were a ton of people who had expressed exactly the same symptoms like what I had faced and also gone through very similar troubleshooting steps and had finally given up as there's an inherent flaw in this item.

Just go to the support forum on the Netgear site and search for WN2000RPT connectivity issues. There's a ton of posts by users on this topic.

BOTTOMLINE: Buy this only if it is FREE, not otherwise! It will end up in the junk anyway.

P.S.: Newegg customer service rocks. Refund was smooth. Will always be a loyal customer...

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm!

Pros: Fast, Easy setup, nice interface. Plays well with my WNR2000 router.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: May buy another at $15 just for a backup. Hard to beat at just $15!

4 out of 5 eggsRange Extender

Pros: Easy setup
Works as advertised

Cons: Had to reset once

Other Thoughts: Normally I wouldn't buy something with the negative reviews that this had but for $11 I didn't figure I would be out much. I may be one of the lucky ones but this has almost doubled the signal strength in my daughter's rooms which are on the opposite side of the house, one floor up from the router.

5 out of 5 eggsRefurbished wifi range extender

Pros: works flawlessly no problems detetected , easy to setup, easy to connect.

Cons: it's not a cons but sometimes you have to unplug and replug because it doesn't connect to you're router but thats not a real problem

Other Thoughts: i purchased it because my xbox 360 has no wireless and with this it cost me 25.99$ and i have peace of mind. If i had to buy the wireless it was over 50$ or i could have gone with th e rj45 but i didn't want to pass a 35 feet wire around the house and doing holes. THis way it's quit and easy.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work.

Pros: Small unit

Cons: Required factory reset as it was not on defaults when received. Not just a reset, but a power-on reset. Thanks Google for that info that is not in the manual. Setup is difficult and support is limited. Never got the unit to work. Saw many other folks with the same problems on the forums. I had to hardwire it to a PC and set IP configs and disable IP 6 to even access it, but it won't give IP addresses to my devices. I give up!

Other Thoughts: Forum posts seem to say there are easier unit to use.

1 out of 5 eggsBroke after 40 days

Pros: I have a 30 Mbps connection at home, when it worked I was getting download speed up to 24 Mbps using the test speed site

Cons: After 35-40 Days it no longer works, I am getting download speeds up to 0.06Mbps, and I was checking my warranty and it just expired, please save your money don't buy the refurbished one and instead buy this one new or another brand

Other Thoughts: Usually I have bought refurbished and they usually work for a long period of time, in this case it seems that I paid $32 and now I am going to have to spend more now on getting a new extender

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Easy to setup and configure
Had it working within minutes
Refurb unit shipped with latest firmware installed

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For those experiencing lock ups and freezing it may occur when SSID on WN2000RPT is set to match SSID on wireless router. These two IDs must be unique or a network loop is created between the two devices which will eventually choke the network. When the extender is configured with a unique SSID it will automatically "extend" the wireless router SSID

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work in "N"

Pros: Does boost the signal (not the speed). Easy setup.

Cons: It doesn't support security in "N" mode. You have to dumb it down to "G".

Other Thoughts: I have a desktop computer at one end of the house, and the router and NAS at the other end. This extender will not support "N" speed, which makes file transfer (full backup) to the NAS painfully slow. So I shut off the extender, boost the router back to "N" and the file transfer speed quadrupled. That makes this booster worthless, right? If things are faster without it than they are with it? Yep. Worthless. It says right there in the manual that it won't support "N" protocol with security enabled.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi talaki3,

Can you provide some more clarification for us? The WN2000RPT does support wireless-n with the most popular security types.

Were you unable to connect to your router when configured to use 802.11n mode? What model of router are you using and what is the security type in use?

Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and we'll be happy to help.

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: Easy setup with WPS to NetGear WNDR4500 router, only time it has to be power reset is when I've shutdown the router, then it connects in a very short time. The signal range is very acceptable on tablet or notebook even outdoors through a stone wall to about 50 feet.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I knew it was only single channel but it was such a good buy from newegg as a refurb I couldn't resist it. Glad I bought it.
