3 out of 5 eggsSpeed not as advertised

Pros: Quick setup, encryption

Cons: Lower speed than advertised

Other Thoughts: I still use 2 of these on my home network, but the speed is nowhere near 500Mbps. Even after updating the firmware, the highest established link I have seen in multiple houses (none with particularly old wiring) has been @149Mbps, which is fine for most internet use and media streaming. Outside of this I have had zero problems with this product and will continue to use them until they die.

Be aware that this product has been discontinued by its manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Don't expect 500Mbps data transfers, but if you can get a decent connection between the two units (green LED's on both ends), the connection is adequate for most AV uses. I'm able to stream HD video from a server in the basement to a second floor office without any skips or jitter. Setup is very simple.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Looks like Netgear discontinued the product on 12/19/2011 for some reason, so I'm hoping that the XAV5001 is compatible. It appears to be the same product - just lacking the power outlet, which is no big deal in my case.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter Than Expected ...

Pros: My theater is too far for wireless, big house, multiple breaker boxes.
These are Stable and Transparent.
Steady 130-150 Mbps: from office, ~100 ft to breaker box, ~200 feet to different breaker box, then ~50 ft to theater. Never a hiccup in HD/Netflix streams. Integrated outlet is obvious plus. My wife is happy (no more cable in hallways) so I am happy.

Cons: Well, I don't think it will do 500 Mbps.

Other Thoughts: These are also great for video security cams.

5 out of 5 eggsI'll keep one of these on my service saver!

Pros: Item works as advertised. I'm in the AV integration industry [high-end custom residential] and it got us ethernet in places that would have been labor-intensive to do. Will use again.

Cons: I wish that the 3-prong plug on the unit could be turned 180 degrees if needed. This would help in placement at some outlets since you never know which outlet will produce the best speeds. At some of the "faster" outlets, we found other transformers that could not be reversed either.
