2 out of 5 eggsNot to Netgear standards

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: easy setup, excellent range

Cons: needs to be continually restarted.

Other Thoughts: the unit will stay on for a period of time and then just turn off. I have to restart the unit multiple times daily.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsDidn't work with Apple TV

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Did in fact extend my wireless range
My laptop worked fine off the extender and I could do anything I needed to - stream HD movies on Netflix, copy files, etc

Cons: Incompatible with Apple TV - it connected fine, but it just would not stream HD movies - everything was choppy and constant time outs, Netflix would never play in HD on apple tv

If I didn't have an Apple TV, I think this solution would've worked just fine

Other Thoughts: If I didn't have the apple tv, this would've worked for my situation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat solution for extending wifi range

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: - Simple WPS setup
- Dual 2.4 and 5Ghz band capable

Cons: Does not support 5Ghz AC - only 5Ghz N

Other Thoughts: Bought this to extend the range of my D-Link DIR-868L dual band router to weak spots on the opposite side of my house. Placed the extender upstairs almost directly above the router which is downstairs.

Setup was a breeze. Hit the WPS button and connected to my router without any issues. I'm ow getting extended dual band coverage throughout the entire house. Went from 50MB/s to full 300MB/s (extender only supports 5Ghz N standard).

The extender by default creates two new networks (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands) which you can connect to with the same router password you normally use. Apparently there is an option to rename the SSID to the same name as the router SSID but haven't tried that. Haven't found it necessary since I haven't experienced any DCHP issues.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked ok for a few

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Looks pretty, works great when it is working.

Cons: Not dependable.

Easy, but also a pain to configure.

Overall frustrating and a poor investment.

You'll memorize the words "WPS process is in progress, please apply changes later." because that is pretty much all you will see when trying to configure this thing. You can jump through a bunch of hoops trying to get past it, finally able to, but then at some point you'll hit the wall again. Sometimes the instructions in forums work, sometimes it doesn't.

Other Thoughts: Don't use in an area with a lot of other wifi routers around, like an apartment complex. It likes to WPS auto-connect to other wireless networks all by itself and there is no way to know until you log in and look at the config.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsExtend "Simply"

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: > Easy to Configure
> Dual Ban Support
> Fast Lane Technology
> Design
> Price

Cons: > Design (Fingerprint Magnet)
> Access Point Issue (mywifiext.net)
> Fast Lane Technology Limited To One Band (2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz)

Other Thoughts: My home router as of this writing was the NETGEAR WNDR4500 and I had purchased the NETGEAR WN2500RP Range Extender to extend my home network's Wi-Fi signal to the Living Room of the house which is on the diagonally opposite corner of the home router. Before purchasing the extender, my networked HDTV as well as my 3D Blu-ray player had issues keeping a consistent signal (both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz band). Now that I have the extender setup with my current router and have connected my networked HDTV and 3D Blu-ray player to the Wi-Fi signal coming from the extender, I have no issues watching streamed content on either of the two devices mentioned. The major issue I have with the extender is that I have issues accessing the settings of the extender using the mywifiext.net address so I have to manually access it using the extender's IP address instead - not a big issue but just frustrating that you have to type the IP address instead

3 out of 5 eggsSo far.... well, better than what it replaced from Netgear

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: It's not its predecessor. The WN2000RPT should all ahve been sent to the sun. Seems to configure easily, its wizard is far faster than the model it replaced, and it taked the 5 Ghz band nicely seriously. So far.

Cons: Nothing bad so far. Just has that overall, flimsy, "I'm here, but don't count on me forever" feeling. I wish I knew why. I don't think this product has anything to do with the people who design or produce their higher-end router products. (much less things like their metal ethernet switches!) Even if this turns out to be a fine, workable wireless extender, why does it had to feel so, SO cheap? And why can't Netgear decide which of their 7 designs they are going for?

Other Thoughts: I think its hilarious and sad that both online and brick and mortar stores (well, that one blue-polo shirt store that is left) still sell the WN2000RPT model. I mean, WHY? It's the nework equivalent of selling the Xbox 1. (by which I mean the first, first one....) Why oh why?

5 out of 5 eggsWireless Switch

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Nice looking, reliable radio, very easy to setup. Practically it is a network switch on wireless link. I used it in FastLane (one radio acts as link to router and second radio would be extended) and the result is very satisfying.

Cons: Webserver is fairly basic (which is typical for a network switch) and I am not sure if the device is taking advantage of my 40MHz bandwidth router radio configuration. Still 5 star, very easy way of extending WiFi coverage!

4 out of 5 eggsWN2500RP

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Stable for 24+ hours so far...This was my greatest concern with a extender.
Setup was easy even tho I HAD to use the wizard (the wizard is not as bad as I had expected)

Cons: Needs external antenna's but this is very easy to mod the largest draw back is either buying a mod kit or buying the RP-SMA connectors to make the interface.
POE would of been a nice feature.

Other Thoughts: If the price was lower i would buy one for another home i need to expand the range of wireless on.
I bought this product at a local office supply (the name starts and ends with a $) encase i needed to return the beast...
Now i must go design and build my external high gain antenna's...

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Setup Great Speed

This review is from: NETGEAR WN2500RP-100NAS N600 with 4 Port Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender-Desktop Version

Pros: Very easy to set up with an Asus RT-N65U dual band router in the next room. Extended my range for entire house and backyard (3200 sq feet)...set it up in living room for future wired devices to be plugged into it (TV, DVR, Xbox, Blueray player etc)

Cons: None yet...
