5 out of 5 eggsRange Extender solved limited Wi-Fi problem

Pros: Installation was a breeze. Excellent installation manual with pictures and print large enough to read. Indicator lights on unit were large enough to see as well.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsWN2500RP no-WEP

Pros: Well, I guess it is easy to setup, assuming you choose WPA2.

Cons: WEP incompatibility is a killer for me, I know it is insecure, I have the linking access point Wifi off a firewalled DMZ untrusted zone, but this extender won't pass DHCP allocations if WEP is selected. Deal breaker, go somewhere else.

Other Thoughts: I get it, but very frustrating to be offered/spec'd WEP and find it worthless.

5 out of 5 eggssurf the web anywhere

Pros: works like a charm. coupled with my router I can reach farther places in my house and still have the great speed surfing as if I was right next to my router. easy to install, very stable platform and takes up very little space. also it has the 2.4/5 ghz compatability if you ever changed to a new router with dual bands.

Cons: would have liked to see the price a little cheaper. other than that nothing at all.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but some unwanted problems

Pros: Really works, both frequencies are supported and together with N provide a good stability and speed. I connected it to my primary WiFi router at 5 GHz and opened 2.4 GHz for the rest of devices. The receiver it connected using the wire. Looks good, but...

Cons: It has one problem that I really hate. It I use the WiFi from this extender and connect my devices to it, it uses the DHCP server on my main router and assigns the right IP addresses. Plus the entire network is traceable and visible. The problem comes when I want to use the wired connection. My received is connected to this extender using RJ45 and the extender provides its own IP addresses, which is weird. The second problem - I cannot get access to my own receiver from my primary LAN. Who was so stupid, that implemented this feature and made it permanent? I hate that. Now in order to connect to my receiver and have the ability to drive it using my mobile phone or tablet I have to connect to the secondary network, provided by this extender. Why??? Why don't we get this feature optional so we can disable it and rely on the main network provided by the primary router? Really stupid solution. I'm ab out tom return it back, but the only thing holds me down - there is not any reasonable alternative in this price range for home.

Other Thoughts: I hope to see a better firmware one day, so I could use the real MAC addresses instead of the virtual ones provided by this box and ideally to use the same home LAN with just one DHCP server inside my primary router so I can see and use the entire network. The way it's done now is stupid. Surprisingly, the WiFi works my better and uses the primary router sitting on the primary network and IP range. If you want to buy this device and keep using the MAC address network protection try to be extremely patient, it's a serious pain.

2 out of 5 eggsWORKED mediocre

Pros: Did what it said it did.

Cons: Extender started to fail about 2-3 months in. I believed it was the router until I rewired to the bedroom. I deeply regret purchasing this product, I believe at the time this extender had the best reviews and it fell short. Wiring is the way to go.

3 out of 5 eggsOk but not the best.

Pros: This had an extremely easy setup from the box to the living room.

Has ports in the back of the range extender.

Cons: Drops signal constantly for the 2.4GHZ band while the 5GHZ is constant. The router is only in the next room. Not more than 45 ft away and only has 1 wall between the router and the range extender.

Other Thoughts: I would look elsewhere for a range extender.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Config Options Preset

Pros: Easy to set up out of the box, and signal strength (receiving) a plus.

Cons: Configuration options limited, and once you start to config you have to go through it, there was no way that I could see to back out of it if i changed my mind.
URL (private) that you hook to doesn't resolve properly all the time, bypasses extender and can be frustrating

Other Thoughts: This helped extend the range of our ATT 2Wire wireless g network downstairs from where the router is located. it seems to change speeds at time, from 54 down to a crawl, but I don't know if that is a function of the extender or the router.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT range extender

Pros: i live in a apartment and i am getting free wifi from my complex ,, the wirless router they have in my complex is in my laundry room which 3 doors down ,, even though i share with the wifi with complex i still get 3 bars and i can now hard wire my computers to this netgear extender and run my magic jack plus ,,now i have a home phone in my place ,with out this netgear range extender i would not have been able to use my magic jack ,, otherwise i have to pay for my wifi,, just make sure you put the range extender in a high place to pick up good signal,, i also run 1 wireless n router off this box for my laptop

Cons: only 1con ,, one is ,,it is a dual band,,but you cant adjust the 2.4 ghz channel or the frecency,, its locked ,, but you can adjust the 5ghz channel,, and it has built in antennas and thats ok

Other Thoughts: this range extender works great,, never had to rest it, make sure you have it pluged in to a surge protecter,, the set up was easy

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible parental controls

Pros: It works as a wireless router...

Cons: The unit is described as having parental controls. It does using a website on a pc. That doesn't work on iPads, iPhones, Xoom or anything else. You can't have multiple schedules for time limits of access to wifi. (School night and weekends). iPhone and iPad will not connect to wifi if the signal is "hidden". Ssid broadcast must be on! I woudnt recommend this router to anyone with kids who use the Internet and u want control over it. I'm going back to the d-links. Never had any trouble with them. It took almost an hour to set the time!!! It's under logs or some other rediculous name

Other Thoughts: Last netgear product ill ever buy
