2 out of 5 eggsREAD

Pros: Fast, relatively good range. I enjoyed the 2 bands.

Cons: Well, just short of one year, it kept losing the connection. VERY DISAPPOINTED! It did last throughout the 30 day warranty. Tried everything to get it working correctly, nyet dobse.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Martski,

We are very sorry about your connection issue. Have you tried upgrading your firmware and doing the 30-30-30 reset?

Here is the link to the support page, it has a link to the firmware:
http://support.netgear.com/product/WNDR3400v1

If you haven't yet tried the 30-30-30 reset:
http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=62062
1. With the router powered on, hold the reset button in for 30 seconds
2. Continue to hold the reset button in and power down the router
3. Wait 30 seconds while continuing to hold the reset button, then power on the router
4. Continue to hold the reset button in for a final 30 seconds then release
5. Wait for the router to reset and reboot, allow to settle for several minutes

We hope this helps,

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great when working

Pros: Strong range, strong signal, easy to set up, sleek black finish

Cons: After 2 months (1 month past the RMA period), the unit started randomly crashing. The broadcast signal is consistantly intermitant, and requires hard restarts on an increasingly frequent basis. It started as 1x a week, and in a month has increased to a daily basis. Resetting the router to factory settings and updating firmware have given no results. 3 months after purchase, and I am purchasing a new router... I sure wish it had been as good as my Netgear router that it had replaced.

Other Thoughts: It's a strong possibility that I just have a bad unit, but it's too late to RMA it.... Since I have seen a couple of forums stating the same problems with new versions of this unit, I will most likely be selecting a different make/model.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello SwatbossTech,

We are very sorry that your WNDR3400 has started randomly crashing. We'd like to help-- please email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review, and any additional information you can add.

We hope to hear back from you soon,

NETGEAR Team

3 out of 5 eggsInitially Worried

Pros: It's holding its own running both 2.4 and 5.0 bands for my iPhone and iPad. I had some problems initially but it seemed to have been the cable modem. In addition to the aforementioned products, I've had up to 9 devices on both bands running at the same time while also streaming to the AppleTV without any problems.

Cons: I reset that modem and power down the router every month to get a sense of comfort.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Smoo,

It is nice to see that after some initial issues everything seems to be running smoothly with the WNDR3400. We thank you for choosing NETGEAR and ask that if you run into any issues you contact us.

1 out of 5 eggsgiving up on this thing

Pros: hmm, having trouble w/ a pro here...I've used their products off and on since the era of buggy whips. This is not a good one.

Cons: requires regular reboots
ping and jitter excessive
even when working nowhere near stated speeds
annoying blue light suitable for lighthouse duty

Other Thoughts: this thing worked for awhile, but increasingly has been a huge headache. Ping and jitter >4000ms regularly, I initially though it was my isp but the wired connections are fine; it's this darn wireless adaptor. Restarting it helps temporarily w/ ping, if done a couple times a day, but speeds are never great and then the delays start again. Unable to use it to play my mmo (which is what I got it for). It took more than 60d to really go to heck, so I'll have to write off the cost. Good news; now there are better cheaper nonrefurb products available, incl the rosewell.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi CBB,

We would like to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind.

1. What firmware version are you currently using?

2. Have you tried a 30-30-30 reset? http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=62062

3. Have you tried contacting our tech support team?
http://support.netgear.com/

If you have any other questions, information, or concerns please let us know!

Our apologies,
NETGEAR Team

4 out of 5 eggsGood Price

Pros: Pretty good price (although I did get the refurb) for a dual-band router. Fast and mostly reliable (read cons).

For potential buyers, keep in mind whether your devices are 5Ghz capable. If they aren't, you won't be able to utilize half your bandwidth.

Cons: Not sure why (I've read every article I can find), but it randomly drops signal for a couple seconds and then comes back. It does this completely at random; sometimes it won't do it for weeks at a time, and then it may do it every 5 minutes for an hour straight. Not a deal-breaker, just annoying. I on-line game with it some, and I've had no problems (I'm assuming my PS3 buffers sufficiently to not notice a half-second lost signal).

And I hesitate to put it as a con, but it takes a lonnnggg time to boot up (2-3 minutes), at least compared to my trusty ole' DI-524. Once again, not a huge deal, but annoying at times.

Other Thoughts: The LED is SUPER BRIGHT! Not a pro or a con for me, but I could see how it might be bothersome in certain applications. The front panel LED indicators are pretty bright, but its got a HUGE lit section on the side that's almost bright enough to read by... seriously. I think there's a way to disable/dim the gaudy lighting, but since it's not an issue for me, I've never investigated further.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Router...

Pros: Its been 10 months since I purchased this refurbished item... It still works perfectly fine. I've noticed a lot less incidents in which I have to reboot/unplug my router because it stopped working. I haven't found any problems as of yet. "Knocks on wood." The best thing is the price. I got a combo price that was under $60.00! Came with usb dual band dongle.

Cons: it was refurbished

Other Thoughts: I'm thinking of getting another dongle for my laptop... edimax has one for $24.99 as of 3/17/13...

3 out of 5 eggsworks mostly, frequent reboots

Pros: easy set up, works more ore less as you'd expect.
sorta cheap

Cons: requires daily (or more) reboots, just stops working.
Annoying blue light.
More expensive than new Roswill w/ similar stats.

Other Thoughts: meh. I should've gotten something else.
